Juwan was named MVP of Broward County by South Florida High School Sports' writer Larry Bluestein. Many have praised Juwan on this board and he made an instant impact for American Heritage, wish we would've offered. :(

We offered Mayes and Turner instead. *shrug*

We pushed Turner out though right?

Just saying you know more about him than I do but do you think it was either Juwan or Nigel for one spot?

I think going to Heritage really helped his stock and his production. Playing alongside McFadden was a blessing because most of the dumb *** coaches down here chose to throw away from him simply because of the way he looked and the fact that he's a 5-star. I called this before the season started and I knew Juwan would capitalize off of it. Luckily most coaches don't do their due diligence and actually watch enough film to figure out that they'd be better off throwing towards McFadden. Come game day they just throw at the "little guy". Worked out well for Dowels though. 9 interceptions is just nuts. He actually could've had double-digit picks cause he dropped a handful on the season.

And he most likely wouldn't have got the Clemson and Oklahoma offers if he hasn't played an extended season. Going deep into the playoffs helped him get more exposure.

Did we "push" Turner out? I honestly don't know. Thought he had grade issues or something. *shrug*

But yeah, I was told that Juwan's offer basically belongs to Nigel. I guess they felt like they already had a CB on board with Juwan's size and skill-set.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that logic (I guess) but you can never have enough cover guys IMO. It ain't like Turner was some big *** Corner either. I can see wanting Mayes as a big *** boundary Corner or maybe even a Safety eventually but it would be hard for me to pass up Dowels.

I think this is one of those scenarios where I would overlook a lack of size (160lbs) for the sake of PRODUCTION and ABILITY.

Kid finished his high school career with 20 picks.

This is the type of guy four years from now, when we watch Sunday night football and he announces his name and school we will be like dang!

Kinda reminds me of Brent Grimes or Jayron Hosely.

Brent Grimes one of best imo.. I know you have a better observation of Dowles, but watching his film the thing that sticks out that most corners don't do on a regular basis is the basic stuff like locate the football or look back! gosh, I don't know how many times you watch guys in the league and college that simply do not know how to locate the football and just follow the wide receiver and cause a penalty kills me everytime!

Dowels is going to be one of those kids that ends up playing on Sundays and we sit here with our pockets out crying poor mouth. We took commitments from the likes of Mayes and Turner (both fine, nice players, don't get me wrong) but pass on this kid? I get it...late riser and all...but c'mon

South Florida seems to be LOADED at DB this year, more than usual. There are a ton of guys I don't want to miss out on and we aren't even recruiting them.

Wildcat any idea where he is leaning to?

He is committed to a pretty good school right now either way....

I don't think Clemson is a good fit for him....if im him or YOU im telling him take that Oklahoma offer....With the two STOOPS coaching dbs he has a chance to make noise their and head to the league if he puts in t he work.

This is the main reason kids transfer out, kid was at western with you before right? Doubt he would ever get looks from ou playing there. Certain schools just put u behind the ball, not saying they don't coach better (most times limited teams have better coaches just because they have to be) or anything but some of these schools get so much attention all the kids benefit. No recruiting pitch is a better sell to parent than I can get ur kid a full ride to college, easy sell.

I remember Jayron Hosley having some sick highlights.. I don't know why we didn't go harder after him..

Well he probably doesn't get the Clemson or OU offer if he's still at Western.

Unless...

Unless...

Our head coach stayed, we kept all our kids and we made a playoff run. (which could've happened this year)

And that's a big maybe. But yeah, I agree with you.

OU without a doubt.

I told him not to commit to NIU in the first place. I knew more (and bigger) offers would come.

Who was the safety last year that was begging to be a Cane but ended up at OU?

Edit: Ahmad Thomas is who I was thinking of, from Central

Actually glad this d!ckhead brought the thread back up.

I was with Juwan on Friday.

He's now 5'10"+ and 180lbs+. (give or take) Finally looks like a D-1 Corner.

He led the team in PBU's and INT's during the spring. Slated to be the starting CB as a Redshirt Freshman.

He clocked a laser-timed 4.47 forty. (this would make him our fastest CB)

Nice "evaluation" Miami.
