Jurich

Not surprising at all . For the one millionth time , we have THE most incompetent administration in the country . I’ve resigned myself to the fact this program is teetering on permanent death .
What does this have to do with the administration?

The tweet said the search firm threatened to resign. It didn’t say (i) that UM won’t go ahead and hire TJ anyway, or (ii) that UM has agreed to the search firm demands.

I know you’re always just looking for a reason to *****, but how about not ruining another thread?

I don’t know if anybody here has worked with a search firm.

I have.

The one thing about the search firms that I am familiar with, is that most of the time, in fact probably all of the time, they have a stable of candidates, and there are definitely financial incentives to hiring one of their candidates.

I think most people in the business world realize that search firms aren’t necessarily honest brokers, but you use them to widen the pool of candidates to look at and possibly interview.

My mantra in hiring people has always been that the larger pool of candidates that I have to choose from, the greater chance I have for making a correct decision.

So that’s why you use a search firm even though they’re not necessarily a 100% honest broker. To widen your pool of possible candidates.
Interesting insight, crazy to see this come up all of a sudden when tomorrow is basically the deadline set by the admin for a new AD and it seems Jurich hasn’t even been interviewed yet?? Welcome to UM lol

So if I’m understanding this. We want to hire an AD that will make a decision on Diaz but Diaz is already fired. AD will be given the choice of the next football coach but the new money wants Cristobal. Am I’m stupid to think this AD hire will be the new money puppet like Blake was to the old money and this is just a power struggle of whose money is longer?

The "financial incentive" probably has more to due with getting a guy in that has worked with them in the past, thus potentially using their firm again for future HC searches and more financial contracts.

I’m sure that’s part of it, probably a significant part. I’m not familiar with this particular firm, but the ones I’m familiar with, probably most, are paid a fee by the actual candidates. Whether that’s a flat amount, or percentage of their new position salary, depends on the particular search firm.

Again I’m not privy to their internal workings, I’m just privy to having used them.

To be honest, I never considered them to be an honest broker, nor to have my best interest in mind, my only interest in them was to look at possible candidates and to see if they had a jewel among their stable that was worth the hassle of using them.

I honestly can’t recall if I’ve ever hired someone from a search firm. It’s been a while.

There are also C-suite type, and M&A type searches that use a specialized firm.

About 90% of the time someone internally is hired, either from acquaintances or through networking, or people that actually work for the company changing positions.

To be honest, most of the time, especially in upper management, there is generally an idea of who is wanted for the position, and a lot of time interviewing is just covering your bases for HR type reasons.

This seems mostly right, but here's where I'm a bit confused. If we're hiring a search firm to fully vet our next AD, why wouldn't we have the firm vet Jurich? That seems logical enough to me. If they vet him and turn over their findings to the University, then wouldn't they still get a percentage of his future pay?

Again, running up against my ignorance regarding how the college athletics search game works. Does the search firm purely "vet" candidates they're given or do they go out and find candidates and present them to Uni for consideration? The former seems very low value add and as such I doubt they'd get paid a big contingency fee.

And what, precisely, does "vet" mean? Most recruiting firms I've worked with, that just describes them reviewing your resume, maybe a transcript if it's a younger candidate, and going through some interviews to make sure you'll be a baseline competitive in the actual interviews. At this level I'm sure it's more intensive, and maybe does involve some kind of official or BG check situation.

It seems to me that the more important question to ask is, assuming this is leaked from an actual inside source, why was this leaked at all? Is the news true, and it's being leaked by a pro-Jurich group to put pressure on the search firm? Is it true, and it's being leaked by the anti-Jurich contingent, to cast doubt on both the process and the candidate? Is it not really true, but is being leaked by one of those constituencies for those or perhaps other reasons? None of the above?

I've just gone through this bull**** myself. Thought I had the inside track as the internal candidate, but they hired a friend of a director instead.

I want jurich but let me send out a reason against…

even if he was cleared, all this still happened under his watch….either you are in charge and own it all or you shouldn’t be in charge at all.

I want him not because he was later cleared but because 20 years of **** ty football has me willing to sell my soul to the devil..

Over the years, CFB has not exactly been Habitat for humanity or the Samaritans Purse for integrity.....

... do what's needed to win!! End of story!!
