Good comparison with Texas, except that they have been recruiting at a significantly higher level than we have. Sarks’s first two full classes were ranked 5th and 3rd respectively. Mario’s first class was comparable, but they obviously have been able to navigate the stench of a 5-7 season much better than we have.

What it would be is a weak second season and likely isn’t going to improve our recruiting fortunes in any meaningful way. We lose important pieces after this season so if we aren’t stacking talent good luck moving beyond 7/8 win seasons.

that's cause Texas NILers still paid up even when the results on the field stunk. I think UM NILers are waiting to see that ROI on the field. Which I think 8-4 would bring them back into writing the checks we need to see.

Valid point about upsetting a Florida State but getting pounded by a Texas A&M as that has been Miami’s calling card for decades now—even in better seasons; getting a big win and then blowing it against a beatable team.

From beating #3 Virginia Tech in 2005 to losing to unranked Georgia Tech weeks later… to rolling #3 Notre Dame in 2017 to laying an egg against four-win Pitt in the road finale—and countless times in-between.

This will be another year where Miami wins an impressive game or two, but craps the bed against winnable teams as well.

A lot of comments on the football and recruiting board end up being this rallying cry about where “we should be”

It’s like yeah well no ****

But we got our brains beat in by MTSU (amongst others) it’s not mental gymnastics talking about 8 wins this year

Just use the search function and type in the word “unacceptable” and you’ll probably get about 10,000 results

No one is “accepting” 8 wins like it’s something to be happy about
 
Assuming injuries stay manageable, I think the North Carolina schools will be the deciding factor between 8 wins or more. Both games against UNC and NCST are on the road, and both teams may or may not good.

I get those points and I don't disagree but we're not talking about getting smacked in the mouth and knowing how to smack back.. we talking about teams flat out lining up and running the ball down our throat and we're basing it off 42 players, 7 coaches and 9 months ago.

Not the same system, not the same techniques, not the same motivation, not the same captains/leaders, not the same level of strength.

It's apples to oranges.

Now If someone says... " I worry about our run defense because Guidry defenses has only been successful in stopping the run with this body type with these attributes and we don't have that kind of player" is a worthy take and something to discuss.

I'm not asking anyone to have blind faith. I been on this board for 10 years, **** near and I'm on record hating **** near every coach we've had since. So I'm not some huge fan boy. Nevet will be.

I don't mind skepticism, criticism, cyncsim or a little pessimism if it comes from true analytics and a little research to validate your worries.

But " we stunk last year bro". Ain't gone cut it.

Imagine USC fans saying the offense would be trash with Lincoln Riley cause they stunk the year before? **** seems stupid doesn't it?

Two games I think we got a better chance in are UNC and Clemson. Both are breaking in new systems. Klubnik didn't look very good in Clemson's spring game. Maye is a vet so he may can will them to some wins but he has few receivers returning and one of their top transfers didn't get his waiver. The games I'm worried about are Louisville, Florida State, and NC St.

Look, I personally feel like this team, if it didn't have baggage and growing pains from two new coordinators and a bunch of new coaches, has the talent and leadership to win a lot of games this year. I've said it in other posts. Only Clemson is more talented across the board than us, A&M has more overall talent but has exploitable weanesses (e.g., QB and DB), I'm not impressed by UNC outside their QB and a handful of defenders, and I believe FSU is highly overrated. The rest of our schedule is weaker than us.

TVD in those last 7 games of 2021 was the best QB in the ACC. I think he bounces back to that form. Plus he now has an NFL JV Team along the OL with some really frickin good RBs, guys that made the 2021 starters transfer out. I would be shocked we aren't scoring 30+ ppg and wouldn't be shocked if we're closer to 40 than 30 ppg. On the defense we have 3 preseason AAs in Kinchens, LT and JW. Messidor is an animal, Kelly and Bain are going to wreak havoc, and we finally have some LBs. I would be shocked if we can't hold opposing teams below 25 ppg, and wouldn't be shocked if we were near or below 20. That outcome is very possible. It's there in front of the team. They just got to believe, got to gel and got to stay cohesive.
