Josh Moore and Charmar Brown - out for the season

I'm gonna try to be an optimistic boy right now, so here goes:

Before the season, I think everyone was in agreement that our deepest positions were, in no particular order, RB, WR, and CB.

So, if you *have* to lose kids long-term, well, it's an RB, WR, and then a corner is out for a while, but maybe not all year.

We should be able to absorb these. I hate it for the kids, obviously. And for the team, Marty and Moore were expected to be big contributors this year.

But if you tell me, for the rest of the season, I can have a *HEALTHY* RB room of Fletcher, Pringle, Lyle, and Mallory, I'll take it.
And if you tell me, for the rest of the season, I can have a *HEALTHY* WR room of Mali, Barkate, Upshaw, Jacobs, Wingo, Parris, Spafford, I'll take it.
And if you tell me, for the rest of the season, starting in October, I can have a *HEALTHY* CB room of Lucas, EOC, Antoine, and Brown, I'll take it.

We can absorb this and be fine. But some of these kids MUST step up. I'm looking at you, Jordan Lyle. I'm looking at you, Girard Pringle. I'm looking at you, Xavier Lucas (you need to get your *** back and be 100.0%, real soon). I'm looking at you, Cooper Barkate. I'm looking at you, Daylyn Upshaw.

We have plenty of talent in these rooms. All this really does is condense the touches distribution some. But there is still plenty of dudes in these rooms to get us where we wanna go. This just has to be it, on the injury front. This is crazy.

I believe Moore was hurt during his last pass play.

Shoulder injury...

@TheOriginalCane has additional details...

While I think that might be it, I also realized he was blocking on the last real running play (2 minutes left in the game). He was blocking on the right side, and the DB pushed him down on his ***. Very minor, but also indicative of the childish bull**** stuff that Wake Forest was doing all game long.

I'm not going to go into details, lest some know-nothing hanger-on demand specific details, but I've also heard Moore wasn't in perfect health to begin with.

Lots of players with lots of minor bumps and bruises that could get worse during full-contact.

I said RB2/3. Meaning Marty was considered RB2 or RB3. I think (I do not know), if Lyle never decides to drive like an *******, Marty is probably 3rd in the pecking order to start the season.

Either way, he was obviously a big contributor last year and was going to be this year as well. I was alluding to the fact he was either RB2 or RB3, however you want to argue it.

What if I tell you we haven’t gotten to the physical games yet? Though we engaged in more of a fist fight than we should have against Wake. Last year, we started with 3/4 physical games and made it through. This year, we started with 2 lower level games (Wake should have been) and a scrimmage. Injuries are unpredictable, but I dislike the probabilities.

Spot on
We can’t take anymore. I’m looking at Wingo, will need to grow up FAST.

Eh. Is there any data saying kids get hurt more in ACC games than they do in OOC games? I doubt it. Football is a violent, contact sport. You can get hurt seriously just practicing it. I don't think I put much stock into a higher proportion or likelihood of kids getting hurt against, say, Clemson or ND, than they do against Wake Forest or Stanford.

Don’t even remember when i stopped seeing Moore on the field, but that might’ve been why lofton got a lot of targets in the 2nd half.

We’re going to have to play Parris although Wingo/Spafford/Jacobs will get a lot of burn; Parris is the only one who can substitute what Moore meant for us on 3rd down, in the redzone and with the deep ball

These injuries suck and Marty was my favorite player on the team so seeing him get hurt bad ruined the game for me.
But pretty much all of these injuries had zero to do with playing on the turf. We need to stop this nonsense. SMH
Mensah got hit, Fletcher got a stinger, Mali strained himself reaching for the pass, Moore got hurt on a pile up, etc.
Can’t speak for Marty but looked more due to getting tackled in a way where his leg got twisted. Just severely unlucky.

You are full of ****. You saying how these injuries had "zero" to do with the turf is ridiculous.

First, Malachi did NOT strain himself reaching for the pass. He went down hard on his shoulder when he was tackled a couple of plays BEFORE THAT. And, yes, landing on hard artificial turf is not as easy as landing on grass. THAT is the play where Malachi got hurt, not "reaching for a pass". What a moronic claim.

As for Marty's play, it wasn't his "leg got twisted". His right knee was already bending awkwardly from the plant, NOT getting tackled and rolled over on. And that could very well be an artificial turf issue.

Same with "Moore got hurt in a pile up". Yeah, you're some kind of specific-detail genius, aren't you? You know how you can get hurt in a pile-up on a hard artificial surface?

Just stupid nonsense from you. Do you own stock in Astroturf? Do you represent ownership in collective bargaining? You have no idea what happened. Certainly not ALL of the injuries were due to the turf, but some were or were made more severe by the unforgiving nature of that playing surface.

And it's ridiculous. That is a wide open stadium and there is no reason they couldn't have a great natural-grass playing surface. Wake Forest is the smallest Big 4 school (by enrollment), I have no idea what they are doing with all that ACC money. Installing a grass field should be a slam dunk.

Moore was blocking on the final running play before victory formation.

Agreed. Injuries are the unpredictable and unfortunate part of football.

As for the next man up, I want Wingo to seize this opportunity. He looks the part physically and hopefully he can make the most of this. Perfect your craft, study film, and put in the work with Mali, Coop, Upshaw, and Mensah. He has the tools to be a good player for us, now you have to put in the work.

Is there any data that injuries are more likely in physical, hard fought games than lesser ones where you can play backups and distribute snaps? You’re our data guy?!! Ha. Come on, my bro.

I happened to watch Michael Irvin's sideline monologue last night. he said in it that WAke looked to be especially chippy and looking to hit Mensah and mali.

I also rewatched the game last night. The tv commentators also noted that Wake was playing very chippy and aggressive - the personal foul penalties reflected that...
