Josh Horton and DL position thoughts

I had the same experience with Moss. It was an "oh that's why he isn't getting snaps" performance unfortunately.

I loved him taking the chance and coming out here when Mario first got hired. I hope it begins to click and works out for him.
He don't got it

All have remaining eligibility.

With the way he's producing rn, I dont think LT should declare. He has 2 tackles in 3 games.

Also very possible we have the type of season where a lot of older players want to return to finish what they started building. NIL males this an easier decision.

We need to show everyone we mean business and get LT, TVD, et al to stay.

Still waiting for Leonard Taylor to have more than 1.5 solid plays a game. So sick of seeing him listed as a top 20 pick.
To me I just don't like his physicality/explosion pause. I feel like since MC took over he looks for a different type of dt. Maybe I'm wrong that's how it looks though. I would still take him on my DL though in college

Agree with all the above. Especially LT. Kid is solid, demands a lot of attention. But he's still not firing on all cylinders. Our great DTs used to change game outcomes. Outside of the worst game I've ever seen (UVA last year), he has only had a marginal impact on games so far.

In general, pressure up the middle has been our Achilles heel this season. We push the pocket well. But we're not getting enough penetration. I have to believe we'll overwhelm UNC's IOL and former Cane Gaynor. But it will hurt us vs Clemson and FSU.

As far as DEs go, some of it is scheme. They have a lot more responsibilities than a Manny or Steele defense. And our blitzes are coming from all over the place now, so when we get to the QB, it's often not from the front 4. Some of it is offenses protecting more and better. But yeah, outside of Mesidor and Bain, I haven't see the other guys getting to the QB quickly enough.

All that said, if we see it, then Mario, JT and Salave'a see it. I have zero concerns that they'll address this one way (development and HS recruiting) or another (portal).

The Office Thats GIF

Horton looked huge and has the look of a future starter and big time player here

LT is getting double teamed now and its quieting him and his production. Need someone who knows more than I to say whether he's playing well still or not, but IMO he's not showing up enough or making enough plays to be considered a first rounder. We saw way more impact playsout of RJ Mcintosh, Norton, and Gerald Willis and they were late round to undrafted players

DE Position is very very thin especially with Mesidor injured. Kelly hasn't made a leap yet, Harvey is solid but not a constant sack threat on the edge, Chantz is a decent depth piece and Jayden Wayne looks the part but is still young. Bain looks legit but he is THICK and might be a DT longterm (Aaron Donald or Kancey type)

We need Dudes at DE. We haven't gotten to see Anthony Campbell yet and Moss looks like a non P5 player. Lightfoot and Rudolph have the ability to come in right away next year and earn time
Lightfoot and Rudolph are going to be problems. Different types of DEs than we have normally recruited.

Let's not rush to judgment on Moss yet. When he showed some quicks last spring camp (2022), people on CIS were ready to crown him a Freshman AA. Most observers knew he was at least TWO years away from being ready to contribute. Then he flashes again this spring and all the buzz came back despite him not visibly developing physically. He's not ready and it shows in his play because he's doubting himself now. I personally think he'll be just fine with another year of S&C and tutelage under JT. But he was always a project.

Not about stats. These teams are going to put on the film and not go by the stat sheet

You don’t know ball that’s why lol. It’s not all about stats at DT. He has done a good job of holding his lane vs the run and has gotten several pressures
Im confused what people expect, he is sacrificing doing some things that he isnt really skilled to (more 3t playing nose for team) PLUS we bring in all DE during true passing situations and take him off the field so even with all that hard work he doesnt get the benefit to rush the passer and get the "glamour" stats..

Do we know what the injuries are? On paper we don’t play a tough game for 4 weeks. I hope they are all back. Things get crazy they can play JHH at DE in spots. Spots being the key word.

People (including me) expect me to blow up plays like GW3 used to do all the time. I'm talking straight up blow a 1st down running play back for negative 3-4 yards. Show me that please
