Josh Gattis (before its deleted)

If I recall we did not have most of the staff in place last year for this and it didn’t really seem to impact our recruiting very much as much as everybody was freaking out at the time
I’m not the sky is falling type but not having some clarity on the OC job would be extremely dumb on Mario’s part. Our WR recruiting is hurting bad right now. Having the new guy in place gives something to sell.

Was listening to the 3 LIve Canes Podcast other night and they are no fans of Gattis but did say Gattis had a very good track record working with wrs and his prior stops as a wr coach.
He was Penn States Passing game coordinator/Offensive recruiting coordinator (I chuckled)/Wide receivers coach from 2014 - 2017.
Seems like a perfect home for him. I believe PSU is also looking at Washingtons WR coach & passing game coordinator for the position.

For ***** and giggles:

Maybe Ponce said **** this and left on his own accord. Perhaps Ponce was “the nice guy” who cared about Mario’s feelings, and went away quietly (because he sees how ****** our offense is).

Can’t score points. We are cellar dwellers in virtually every offensive statistical category. Literally, the worst UM offense any of us have ever seen!

Now this post is obviously suggesting the opposite of what trusted posters have been saying all along - Gattis and company are / were fired.

Truth is we have no proof of it. It’s just as valid a rumor as Mario and Ponce “mutually parting ways.”

Just saying: Mario ain’t perfect. Nobody is. But He does leave a lot to interpretation. I get he doesn’t gaf what any of us think. However, he brings on more attention than he needs to. Something as simple as a statement would clear a lot of things up.

Makes you wonder what the **** is going on because if it ain’t one thing, it’s another. Sucks because we actually have the financial backing and support.

Mario may not care what any of us think, but his boss will if season ticket numbers dive because he keeps running out the same garbage on the field.

So is Cristobal firing the coordinator of the worst offense in Miami history or not?

Thought decision, let’s think on it for a few months.
▪ We’re told UM quarterbacks coach Frank Ponce left by choice; he was not forced out.

There remains some mystery around offensive coordinator Josh Gattis. Two UM football staffers said early this week that they haven’t seen him around recently and aren’t sure of his job status. He remains listed as offensive coordinator on UM’s website but wasn’t involved in the pursuit of the Southern Cal receiver, Bryant. One player conveyed that he saw Gattis last week, and Canes players are still using his playbook.

Honestly is our OC job even desirable? Really Rhett Lashlee is the only OC to have success here since Jedd Fisch like 10 years ago.

Josh Gattis came here as literally the broyles award winner. After one season he's probably set his career back 5 years and will be lucky to even get a Non play calling CO-OC gig.

Dan Enos came here as one of the top QB coaches in college, if he stayed at Bama he was in the running for a OC job. He came here, failed and had to take a RB coaching job at Cincinnati the following season.

James Coley came here as one of the hottest OC candidates in college football. He was FSU OC under Jimbo Fisher who was viewed as one of the top offensive minds in college football and many teams wanted him as OC. He had somewhat success early on but like the rest on this list he had to take a demotion when leaving and went to Georgia as WR coach.

You pair that with having to work for Mario Cristobal whose one of the most difficult coaches to work for in college. We all have heard the reports that Gattis wasn't Plan A,B or C and thats when Miami had some juice with TVD which they no longer have.

Left by choice vs. being fired

~ Makes you wonder because absolutely none of this makes any sense.

It's an invalid question because there is zero perspective. Golden didn't have the budget for a top OC and the D was horrendous. Fisch was a diamond in the rough but Coley was brought in for recruiting juice and not because he was a 'top offensive mind' like MackBammer wants you to believe. Uncle Jimbo has been carrying the guy his entire career.

Richt refused to fire his son and the Enos hire failed because the QB room had literal potatoes in it. Lashlee was the only marquee OC hire that Miami has made in nearly 20 years leading up to the Gattis hire, and a lot of Rhett's success was in part due to getting King here and then TVD salvaging what was likely going to be a doomed season in '21.

There are other things that factor into desirability of a job. Regardless of the budget, top OCs may not be interested in the job. It's like why the HC job at the University of Texas isn't as attractive to coaches as fans think it is. Coaches know that there will be constant meddling by the boosters. They want to have a say in everything. The HC also HAS to spend far more time schmoozing the guys with deep pockets than with most schools- going to social functions, making appearances at parties, etc. It's not all its cracked up to be.

A lot of top OCs may not like that Cristobal picks the offensive staff. Gattis is the OC and WR coach. More often than not, if an OC has a dual role, it's as QB coach as well. There is no position more important on the offense than QB. So if Gattis the OC/WR coach, the QB coach hire is absolutely critical to make sure the QB is on the same page as the OC. Maybe Gattis and Ponce have different philosophies on running the offense. Gattis and Ponce were hired around the same time, so it's pretty obvious that Cristobal rather than Gattis picked the QB coach. And it's not a secret that Cristobal likes the offense run a certain way- his first real OC hire at Oregon was Moorehead (he inherited Arroyo), and then he hired Moorehead's protege, Gattis. Not every OC wants to change his scheme so that it conforms to what Cristobal wants. Some Cristo-bros keep saying "Cristobal doesn't care what the offensive scheme is, he just wants to win." I strongly disagree with this sentiment.
