Jimmy Johnson on richt calling plays

"fans just need to be fans" - Richt, his staff, and his players

"Jimmy Johnson reiterated exactly what the fans said, Bryant Mckinnie has openly called out the OL and play calling, Brett Romberg has openly called out the play of the OL and play calling. That is a HOF NFL HC and 2 NCAA All-Americans. What do you have to say to them?" - What some reported in south Florida needs to ask the next time we hear that bs.

I know Barry Jackson was butt hurt with Richts answers today but I also don't know what he is expecting Richt to say? Yes, my scheme isn't working? Then trot out that same scheme and expect the kids to not question it when the HC makes it public that he is questioning it himself? We already know the kids are questioning it. They need to stay focused.
Is he supposed to throw coaches under the bus and say this thing is being blown up so the coaches start scrambling for work instead of keeping the kids focused? Richt is a man on integrity. He will evaluate this all after the season whether you all like it or not.

Who knows what he is really thinking. He cant show weakness because that is not what this team needs right now.

That is why I said lets wait to around mid-February before you start calling for heads to roll.

This is huge! Now the administration can’t just pull the “ the fans are just emotional “ crap.
One of the greats has spoken!

Barry jackson gets on my nerves with the way he was defending richt after last game but i must admit he’s not as spineless as the rest of the reporters and asked some tough questions for richt today. Kudos to him

Thats what I meant....Its a quagmire from Top to bottom....Richt should be held responsible for every MFing thing....No more excuses....1st yr...I'll give him that....2nd and 3rd...thats ENTIRELY on him and his poor F-ing choices.....It's not Goldens...Radios or Shapiros fault anymore.....

Yup. By year 3, your team should be taking shape on how you've molded it. We never even saw a season like this under Al Golden were we questioned if we make it to a bowl game. This is Richt's hole. Time for him to dig himself out of it.

The Oline is A problem, but it is not THE problem. The play calling certainly doesn't seem to recognize the fact that the Oline is so weak. When the OC's entire running game is predicated on slow-developing plays right into the middle of the Oline (which is always immediately pushed back 2 yards after the snap)...that's a problem. When the OC calls long, low-percentage sideline throws every time it's 3rd and 5 or even 4th and 2, instead of calling quick comeback routes, curls, slants, etc.....that's a problem. When the OC goes all season without calling jet sweeps for our amazingly athletic WRs....then, decides to do it 3 times within a couple of series in terrible weather/field conditions where the athleticism of that amazing athlete is neutralized by the conditions....THAT is a problem.

You have some points but coach truly only went to those jet sweeps because he didnt want to throw it in the hard rain and keep the turnovers down. And you're right, its not just the o-line, people are under the impression that we have a dynamic receiving corps based on the production from the last 2yrs, and that's not the current reality. With ahmon being hurt that set this offense way back, young receivers being pressed into to duty to early, jt4 getting double covered, cager being inconsistent, receivers not blocking, coach dugans is earning his money this year, this receiving corp will develop, but right now, they are who they are, young, and the qb situation being on the come up will not help them. This is why if perry didnt get the wake up call after this duke lost, he just doesnt seem like he mentally realizes he wont have rosier here next year, which is why coach richt is trying to prepare him to be responsible.

For sure perry has to ask himself, is he doing everything possible to be Great, and from what we see on the field thus far, the answer is **** NO! He should learn from floyd mayweather, floyd flashes money, but more importantly he shows the hardwork he puts in to get that money, perry showing money that didnt take no hardwork, he got it backwards. One things for sure, mayweather never settled for being 2nd best, perry at UM looking like he just happy to be here, either he gone step up or step aside, coach richt dont like gimmick offenses, and im with him on that but he does need the plays he calls to be excuted by his qb's.

What's the point of bringing up a Youtube video of that game. One monumental blow out in the playoffs is supposed to erase everything Jimmy Johnson accomplished in his career?

As far as people not complaining - that is unequivocally false. @UMFarArcher was one of the first ones on day 1 to recognize that the offensive staff was lacking and started calling for an OC, even when Kaaya was here. Others have just fallen in line. I personally wanted to see what the offense would look like with a QB that wasn't as limited as Rosier; but it's clear that there's more problems with the offense than just Rosier.

And who cares if people weren't complaining about the offense day 1? It's obviously an issue now and needs to be addressed.

The point of bringing up that video was for those who remember those years, we had a trash offense void of elite talent, marino was at the end of his career, so surrounding him with below average talent and no running game came to a head that game. You cant have a weak o-line and avg to below avg qb play at the same time and expect to put up points. The difference between jimmy and richt, jimmy was trying to rush to help marino out and didnt stay long enuff to bring it all back where coach richt can recruit basically whoever he wants and not have to wait on a g m .

Unless you’re a guy like Kyle Shanahan that was taking his ****** diapers and drawing successful plays on the walls of his childhood home, you probably should have a specific person for it. There’s too much responsibility.

Certainly not some old hack that feels like “aw shucks I would like to maybe call some football plays again” even though you proved before you couldn’t do it.

This is Miami, not some experimental minor league system.

This is akin to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The ship is sinking regardless of how you arrange the deckchairs. If hiring an OC drags out Richt's inevitable exit by an extra year or two, I'd rather he stay on as play caller so we can end the misery sooner.
I also feel that if we hire an OC n keep the rest of the offensive staff is going to be country productive. Imagine an OC coming in now telling the rest of the staff what to do when the staff has been there for 3 years going on 4th.

“But I also will say this, and I’ve said this from day one, and Joe you know [it]. I’ve said that as far as the head coach calling the plays – I used to have this discussion with Norv Turner. Norv is as good an offensive coordinator as there was – or is. And yet as a head coach, he continued to calls plays. I told him, I said, ‘Norv, you’ve got to oversee the whole thing.’

You really aren't helping your argument with what you said. So he only went to those jet sweeps because he didn't want to throw it in the hard rain? So an offensive coordinator has the jet sweep in his playbook, but DOESN'T ever use it when it can actually be effective, and instead decides to use it MULTIPLE TIMES in one game when the weather/field conditions neutralize the effectiveness of such a play? Why bother calling it in those conditions when they are running in a sloppy field through 2 inch deep water? Might as well just call a run up the middle like we always do, since trying to run outside on a jet sweep, and cut up field in those field conditions is 10x harder. Our young receivers are quite capable of running 4 yard curl routes or comebacks on 3rd and 4....FAR higher likelihood of success than having them run down the sideline 25 yards downfield to catch a jump ball....when only a few yards are needed for the first down.

Jimmy carries the most cache in football in South Florida (arguably more than Don Shula).

Jimmy literally won here and had Miami at its most dominant state in history. He also pulled off the NFL's biggest heist and created a dynasty in Dallas in the 90's.

When Jimmy says you need to step into the CEO role and quit calling plays - you need to step in the CEO role and quit calling plays. No argument even necessary.

Agreed and many of us have been saying this for a while now.

I think Richt got too caught up in his bruised ego from the UGA fiasco and wanted to prove to everyone and himself that the reason he got pushed out is because he gave up too much offensive control.

Reality is, that was far from the reason why his tenure at UGA ended. A P5 head coach MUST delegate responsibilities and most importantly hold his staff accountable.

Richt, your legacy is on the line. Ego aside, hire a solid ******* OC, give him the keys to the O, and hold that mf accountable for results!

Whether y'all like it or not, hiring just an OC isn't going to cut it. Give the OC the keys to the offense, meaning fire all of the offensive staff and let him bring his people. I know some of y'all are enamoured with Dugans, Hartley and Thomas but we gotta let them go man. Either that or they gotta take another role as far as coaching.

PS: I would like to hear any of the coaches say the fans don't know what we are talking about after one of the greatest coaches in UM history has just side with us.

Yeah, Richt can stay - IF he hires an OC who will have the authority to fire anyone he wishes, and hire anyone he wishes on the Offensive side of the ball.

And Richt doesn't need to interfere, make suggestions - or look over his shoulder. Give him the responsibility - and then the authority to fulfill that responsibility.

And take some of the $4,000,000 paycheck - send Little Richt to Shinola or somewhere - and let him to his thing somewhere else.
