Redwine not a safety. He'll take over for Colbert at that spot. Not sure why people keep pushing safety on him. He has never shown safety ability imo

He is physical... Check
Not afraid of contact... check
Takes good angles to the ball carrier... Check
Size.. Check
Ball skills.. Check

Dude is too slow to play elite corner..

I agree. He's fine at CB, especially considering our pass rush.

I'm ridin' with BV on this one. Maybe I'm being too critical but, I think his physical presence is needed at the safety position.

But, his opinions need to be questioned, although on this one I like his thinking.

I agree with Vern. Redwine was entering Demarcus Van Dyke frustration status for me. Gave up way too many easy catches. So I think saftey would be a good spot for him, unless Rumph gets him to make a jump over the spring/early summer

Well if he's not a safety then he won't play too much because what he showed this past year won't cut it. I get the kid is young but he doesn't show much of a ceiling at CB

If he shows up and tackles, there's no way this dude doesn't start.
Think the best 4-5 start, which is why I think Redwine starts at Safety this year, and Bandy starts at Nickel.

CB: Dean > Ryan Mayes
S: Redwine > Romeo Finley
Nickel: Bandy > Deejay Dallas
S: Jaquan > Amari Carter
CB: Malek Young > Michael Jackson

Also really wouldn't be surprised to see Jaquan play some nickel this year if Redwine is moved to safety or Finley/Carter really step up. I just think the positions may be a little interchangeable and the best 5 will see the field a lot.

Neither Redwine or Jaquan are SS so they won't be the S duo IMO.

SS will be between Knowles, Finley, Wright, Carter, Smith
FS will be JJ, Redwine (if moved), James

Not a fan of either groupings over talent/depth. I think DJ would be a great FS prospect which might be the plan. Brian Edwards would be a big get as well.
We need a talent infusion at Corner. I know everyone keeps talking up Deejay Dallas as a Safety, and I'm intrigued, but he has Corner feet and more than sufficient speed. Would like to see him get a look there as well.

I think Jaquan Johnson is a SS all the way... Doesn't have the open field ball hawk ability that you look for in FS, but is a down field playmaker that can hit. I would have Romeo Finley behind him.

Redwine has the coverage skills and physicality to be a good FS IMO. I would see what James and Amari Carter look like at the FS position as well.

And I agree that we do need talent at Corner... That's why Deejay Dallas needs to be a corner for us IMO at least at first.

Brian Edwards at corner and FS

Agreed! Deejay may have potential at FS but like LuCane said, he has CB feet and speed. I'll add that DD also has a high football IQ and that knack for making plays.

a ton of people on this board, including myself, very vocally question (or outright disagree with) vern's opinions. this is one of those cases where it's really hard to disagree with the man.

Sheldrick Redwine is Randy Phillips all the way...

We had Randy Phillips at corner for his first few years.... he was good at passes within 15 yards...you went deep on him he didnt have the speed to run with elite receievers and got torched, we have seen this from Redwine already...We moved Randy to safety and he had a nice career. Redwine is the exact same player
