2014 NT Jerome Johnson is a 6'2" 315lbs under the radar prospect from Buchholz HS in Gainesville, FL. He had 63 tackles, 23 were for a loss, and 4 sacks; all of this on a team that went 3-8 in 2013 so you know the kid was double teamed on every play.
He is a Dequan Ivory 2.0 except without the issues, an he carries a 3.2 GPA so qualifying is not an issue. Johnson's only offer currently is from Old Dominion which he is thrilled about because of the education factor. So if UM offered even last minute he would jump on it.
Johnson played in the FLA state All Star Game with Freddie Both-Lloyd for the north squad, he is not as athletic as FBL but he is much stronger with a 400lb bench press and 41 ft power ball throw. At this late stage in the recruiting game with Edgar Cerenord solidly committed to Duke and FBL allegedly lacking the build to play NT for UM's 3-4 scheme, that would then mean looking at an unknown prospect such as Johnson. Where Johnson is a thickly build barrel chested player with long arms and has been playing NT for Buchholz varsity squad for 3 yrs racking up 186 tackles with 91 solos tackles from the Nose Tackle spot which is impressive.
