Jelani Hamilton...

The next great DL at UM. This is Jelani's year!
Jelani is a rare finesse DT. He's going to cross a lot of those bruisers up with his finesse game. He got a lot of mental reps last year.

"I saw somethings happening so I went to talk to Golden about it an he told me I was going to redshirt an I had to accept that fact" Lets see I wonder what things he saw happening and if it hopefully has benefited him an the program by extending his stay at Miami?

Man, when are yall gonna learn?

PLAYERS ARE WHO THEY WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL.

They don't change, they just get bigger.

If they were fast in high school, they'll be fast in college. If they were slow in high school, they'll remain slow. And if they weren't physical in high school, they **** sure ain't gonna be physical in college.

Gotta disagree here. I look at our own Deon Bush as a great example. I never saw him come up to hit in high school. If fact, he looked contact adverse. Now, we can't keep him on the field because he beats the **** out of himself trying to come up and lay the wood. There are other examples but this one sticks out.

Listening to this interview of freshmen Kendrick Norton, notice how there is nooo mention of Hamilton being a leader amongst the dline players. Sounds like he Hamilton may get passed up again this year, but lets see what happens once the pads start popping hopefully the light has gone for this young man.

not always true. some kids peak in high school while others have room to grow. i've seen guys get faster in college and i've seen guys gets slower then what they were in high school

I've got 6 kids currently playing D-1 football and one in the NFL. They've all gotten bigger, stronger and maybe a .05 faster but none of them change that much. They are who they are. The fast ones are still fast and the slow ones are still slow.

If they're not a killer in high school they don't all of a sudden become a savage after getting their asses kicked by D-1 O-linemen.

Was he saving himself in high school?

Or did he miraculously become physical in the 3 months that he was on campus at Miami? In the high school playoffs against Miramar he didn't wanna hit a sole. Fast forward a couple months to Miami, where he's gotta make a new name for himself and possibly pursue an NFL career, and he's stroking people left and right.

The fact that he "changed" within a couple should let you know what was really going on.

Depends. I've coached good athlete's who have played timid in their first year of football, and in their second they become lunatics on the field. Not always the case, but I've seen it with kids who just start playing in hs. Especially, basketball players.

This, too.

I think if it wasn't for OSU's Bosa we probably would've never heard of Hamilton.

I saw that STA team twice Jelani's senior year. The above quoted statement was totally true both games I attended. Joe Bosa was a junior and was the best lineman on the field both games I saw.

And in keeping with coach Macho's theory - Joe Bosa went to ahia state and was a beast as a true freshman. Jelani Hamilton came to UM and is/was still a finesse, medium effort guy. I do believe there is the occasional exception to Coach Macho's theory, but by and large I believe his theory is correct.

Absolutely, there's always exceptions, but for the most part they are who they are.

DId he not blow out his knee the first time against that same Miramar team? IIRC, he was not the only guy from the DLine of STA to be lost that game to knee injuries. Why was he not RedShirted as a true frosh if he blew out his knee as a H.S. Senior?

When was the last time we had 10 experienced DL heading into the season?

Kamalu
Heurtelou
Wyche
Hamilton
Moore
AQM
Jenkins
Moten
Thomas
Harris

is my sleeper on the dline this year along with D Jax. Jelani was a top 10 dl coming out of hs. he's finally healthy. I think the redshirt year will pay dividends.

if by sleeper you mean a guy who will not have a presence or impact this year then yeah, I agree.

i was in row 3 right behind the bench. neither he nor earl moore looked interested in the game, they knew they were not playing.
