That is a HUGE LIE. Franklin inherited a mess at Penn State after Bill O'Brien dipped quickly for the NFL. Franklin was so good at Penn State that he got you thinking that job is on par with Michigan and Ohio State. Wake up. Penn State ain't on that level. Penn State is a tier 2 Big 10 job. Franklin consistently recruited overlooked uber athletic guys especially on defense. Franklin's achilles heal at Penn State was QB and WR. If he can get those two position groups playing well he's going to be a big problem for the country at VA Tech.

If he couldnt get em at penn state he wont at vt.

Hes still getting the bigs though i can tell from their commitment list.

The part ppl are forgetting is you have to live in Blacksburg. I dont care how much your paying....if its close unless they are from va, de, md they arent gonna really go there or STAY there..will be a feeder school for schools like us and some of the sec after he develops them.

LSU had a cb drafted in this draft that was a straight up va tech development

Yes, that LSU transfer from VT was originally from the Annapolis, MD area.
No one will ever confuse Blacksburg with Coral Gables, but if Franklin finds a good QB to build around team, he can find good skill players and this school has done well in the DMV area. Lots of VT alums in the DMV plus Baltimore area. It is not inconceivable he will get some of those players, especially now that they have spending money.
Even if they are ultimately a feeder school, those players will ultimately improve the program.
Again not at UM's level, but good enough to be serious competition.
Franklin's problem at State Penn was enticing WRs and other speed players to College Park, but that school is really in the middle of nowhere, to bigger extent than Blacksburg.
 
One thing Franklin and Mario have in common is Joe Moorhead, who now coaches at Akron. Moorhead was OC for Franklin and Mario at State Penn and Oregon, respectively.

How was he handed a Ferrari when he got there in the middle of their sanctions from the Sandusky scandal?

VT has a higher ceiling than Penn State. If Penn State had a higher ceiling, Penn State would be on par with Ohio St and Michigan. It's simply not that job. And, if VA Tech is getting donations like the $75 million they got today which they couldn't get under Fuente and Brett Pry they won't have DBs leaving like Mansoor Delane left.

Also, regarding VA Tech being a feeder school don't forget that's a school that many in the SEC would like to get to join them in the future. VA Tech is a plum job. You have the Tidewater area and you have the DMV.
 
Franklin will make VT much better, but I don’t think he’ll make them a national powerhouse.

As mentioned previously, going forward, we are going to have to bring our A game to beat them, especially at their home.

I just don’t think VT can be a national powerhouse because of location as has also been mentioned. When they were in the running as a top 10/top 5 type team, it’s because they had a generational talent like Mike Vick at quarterback.

But make no mistake, he’s the best possible scenario for them, and good on them for hiring him. They couldn’t have done any better, and PSU were idiots for letting him go.

One thing about him over the years he has had many OCs. Some left on good terms others were fired/scapegoated. But it is a bit odd considering offense is his side of the ball. It would be like Mario firing a bunch of OLine coaches.

It's crazy how Vick turned out for them as he wasn't even the no.1 rated QB coming out the state of Virginia.
It was Ronald Curry, who was an All-America HS QB and also highly-rated basketball player who initially committed to UVA, but ended up at UNC, recruited by Mack Brown (before he bolted to Texas) and Nike.
I believe Vick initially had his eye on Syracuse, wanting to succeed Donovan McNabb.

Penn State won national championships and went undefeated 5 times under Joe Pa. Even though you are correct in saying that Penn State is a tier below Michigan and Ohio State, the tier that Penn State is at has a vastly higher ceiling than what Virginia Tech has. Tech is still the only remaining Power 4 school that has not won a single National Championship in ANY scholarship sport they have.

Now I do believe James Franklin will do comparatively well at Virginia Tech, because his ceiling as a coach is far lower than the ceiling that Penn State has for themselves as a program. It's why Franklin got fired a year after making to the CFP semi-finals.

I can totally see Franklin being the best coach Tech has ever had behind Beamer, but I don't see them being any better than a fringe playoff contender and making the field (if it stays at 12 or goes to 16) more than 1-2 times in a 4-year recruiting cycle. However a team like that will still be a thorn in Miami's side because Beamer treated games against Miami as the biggest game behind a National Championship or Conference Championship game, and I have the belief that the administration at VT and Beamer himself stressed that to Franklin when he took the job.

Penn State has only won two national championships.
