Jake Heaps?

This has been in the works for a long time. As I've been saying for months, people are down on Olsen based on his poor performance on and off the field. He is doing better, but there is concern.

The hope is that Heaps will be like Matt Flynn in Seattle-- an insurance policy that forces one of the young QBs to earn the job.

Reading Kansas' fans reactions they're looking at him leaving as a plus. Doesn't sound too good for us imo.

Heaps would be a graduate transfer coming from Kansas and before that BYU. He would have 1 year to play but would available immediately for the 2014 season. So he would still have to learn the offense but he would maturity to QB depth.

I like exploring the option of adding a QB just for this year so we can redshirt Kaaya. An it sends a signal that staff knows they need to win now!

Here is an article outlining his career.

Go Canes

D$. So yiur saying that one of the fresh QBs would hopefully be starting however if all 3 can't handle it. Enter heaps?

Honestly in no way can this hurt. No point in throwing kaaya rosier or even olsen out there of they are not ready. All that does is hurt there mindset going forward. People will argue you want to get them experience but IF (a big if) heaps is the best option let him start and get olsen mop up duty aka experience. The next year we can start fresh.

Worst case scenario he doesnt touch the field and hes gone next yr anyways.

I totally agree with Timcanes. There's no point rushing any of the young QBs. Olsen is immature and looked like he was in way over his head in the spring game. Rosier and Kaaya are true frosh and they need 2 or 3 years to learn. I'm not saying Heaps is the answer but it's nice to have a veteran leading your team. Of course I wish he had signed with UM out of HS but that's hindsight.

Not saying Heaps his all world and i admittedly have never watched his film since high school, but considering he was the #1 qb coming out who knows how he could perform with serious athletes like duke coley etc. Cant imagine kansas or byu had much to work with athlete or even olinemen wise.

You see QB's that take a few years before they get their heads screwed on straight. Heaps could be in that mold. Can't hurt.
