Off-Topic Jail/Prison

Actually Im more pro law enforcement in this case. Having agitated inmates due to heat puts those officers' lives in danger because some company needs to make a certain profit. **** that. Those officer lives matter and quite frankly Im disappointed that among you hard core right of middle goers, not a single one cared enough about an officer's life even if it cut into profits. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Friend, I worked in a maximum security prison for 2 1/2 years. You would be surprised at how much taxpayer money goes into care for inmates—what they would do to themselves for a night in the hospital and painkillers. I worked in 1 of 7 level 6 prisons in FL. AC or not, inmates are people like you and me. Give respect, and for the most part, you will get it back. I don't know much about private institutions, but State corrections do not have AC, except for DADE CI, because they operate primarily with psych inmates.

Here is a program I think you might like—a BootCamp for youth offenders here in Miami. It has a high success rate and gives these young souls a chance again. It almost closed down before due to funding.

I would rather put our taxpayer money into a program like this.

Imo, jail/prison is not supposed to be a vacation but prisoners are still people and should not be treated inhumanly or forced to live in inhumane conditions. I get most of y’all don’t care and likely disagree with me on that but the state of many prisons in this country is disgraceful. Believe it or not but it’s actually not even woke to think that prisoners shouldn’t be treated like animals.

For those of you that have spent time in jail or prison, you already know this. For the rest of us, prisons and jails do not have central air that can be controlled on their respective campuses. It is controlled off site. There are quite a few jails and prisons running hot with little to no AC. It is not right. It is like a cruel and unusual punishment. I hope the inmates sue these for profit facilities to get things made right!
On my first day, I shanked a motha****a over a fruit cup.

The concept of prison is as divisive as it is interesting. Your viewpoint on it depends on whether you think prisons are for punishment OR for rehabilitation.

If you think it's for punishment, then our prisons are performing as designed. They're not the worst facilities in the world, BUT they're considered to be the worst in the G-7 nations. The downside of this is that the USA also has the highest recidivism rate in the world ( 44% of criminals released RETURN before their 1st year out of prison, an astounding 76.6% after 5 years )

If you think it's for rehabilitation, then our prisons grossly miss the mark as shown by having the world's highest rate of recidivism. So who has the least amount of returning criminals? Norway at 20%. China claims that their rate is 6% BUT we should know..:****:. I also accept the fact that some criminals simply CANNOT be rehabilitated.

So you have to ask yourself, which one serves your and society's best interests.... having criminals punished or rehabilitated? The answer to that is extremely important because as we all know, the vast majority of those in prison will get out someday.

Conveyor belt + wood chipper = fertilizer.

Much cheaper and effective.

As one of those right of middle goers, that's a good point you make about the temperature of prisons increasing the likelihood for violence. However, you hardly gave anyone time to respond to your original point about "cruel and unusual punishment" for prisoners before moving the goalposts to the other end of field and going all Blue Lives Matter on us. So please excuse me if I don't pay any mind to how you think I should feel about myself.

Dude.. not having or having limited AC isn't putting officers lives at risk in prisons.... It's being officers working in a prison with inmates that puts them at risk.... C'mon dude....

I need to let you talk to my cousin that just got released after 22 years. I got him a job with me so we talk about it every day. He was in closed custody the entire 22 years.

Prison is a joke. All they do is smoke weed, watch tv, workout, and play on tablets.

What they should be doing is turning big rocks into little rocks all day every day.

This sounds like a nice way to have a chill day at work if you're a prison guard, tbh. Having these jabrones getting high, watching mindless TV, play on tablets where the primary viewing is ****, and getting some gainz in? Sounds like a good day in the State Pen.

Well add in the rape, fighting, and killing.

Our prisons dont punish or rehabilitate. Our prisons punished years ago but now they are just places we hold felons in.

My 2 cents.....stop sending minor offenses to jail, but up the punishment for repeat/violent offenders. Also, stop with the bull**** "insanity" defense. The Parkland killer? ******* execute him ASAP. Dont give a **** about "cruel and unusual" for the dregs of humanity.

Seems like America has a prison problem unlike many other countries . . . The difference of opinion stems (likely) from the fact that it is designed that way here. Our penal system is constitutionally sanctioned slavery. We don't have to agree. There is a lot of room for differences of opinions. The bottom line is America has a terrible penal system backed by constitutional slavery. I am not down like that. Add to that the fact that people of color in our country are far more likely to be incarcerated than people without color, it becomes a big problematic mess that once political side ignores, embraces, or simply does not care about.
