Jaelan Phillips - Then and Now

So if this kid shows out we could have 3 defensive ends drafted in the same draft? with one being a probably first rounder(greg) and another being a 1-3 rounder(roche) and then phillips

ACC Olinemen are going to lose their mind having to battle against Roche, Rousseau and then this beast of a man Phillips coming on to the field trying to prove he is even better than those guys.

I expect a lot of QBs to be covered in grass stains and blood.
We need to win 1st down and force passing situations. With our d-ends if we can stop the run and force the pass UM has a chance to dominate.

Great article and insight as to how this young man got to where he is today. As he mentioned, Q and Greg are getting all the hype - and rightly so - but if he can stay healthy, Jaelan could be a force to reckon with.

That "if" he can stay healthy, coupled with his minimal career playing time to date, is the reason he's under the radar.

If he shows it on the field and stays healthy, he'll get the hype.

Sunshine seen it all. He played against Bama, OSU, and LSU. Also, his own D has a good pass rush. Our pass rush is Top 5 caliber, but its not head and shoulders above everybody else.

Exactly. We are going to need elite play from our DT’s to go with our ends to have a real shot against the big boys. Too many options to slide protection and run right at our ends if our interior play isn’t up to that same level.

Lawrence may have seen it all.
But I heard he basically has new OL protecting him though. IT all depends on how good they are at protecting him.

Baker will likely deploy that NASCAR package pretty regularly with GR15 lined up over the center as a 3 tech. We had some success with that...unless they audible to a draw and we get gashed for 1st downs on 3rd and long by I digress

Rousseau gone. Get that out of your head.
Having dudes like that stay for 1 more year is the next step in joining the playoff club. Ending the culture of leaving early even if you’re a day 1 pick is what’s been keeping bama and Clemson on top.
especially lineman. Skill positions are relatively easy to replace if your a top team. Dominant line players not so much.

Not happening and quite frankly, it shouldn’t in his case. 1st round money is justified to leave early.

Clemson had 4 dudes that were day one picks stay. Alex leatherwood staying for his senior year. Ed Reed stayed for his senior year as well as others. Remember that Wisconsin team and the bowl game? Full of juniors and seniors.
Let’s put it this way, Clemson won a title with a dline that some nfl teams would love to have. And they actually would’ve been playing that season in the nfl instead of college if they would’ve left.

Not blaming him or anyone that wants him to leave. But Bama Clemson osu and uga have several dudes that can legit be playing in the league right now. and your not going to beat them unless you have that on your ream as well.

Clemson was the exception. Definitely not the rule. Still don’t understand how they pulled it off. Don’t expect that here where we can’t provide incentives for those type of players to stay.

Clemson is the exception cause they had so many. But having one or 2 early draft picks staying their senior year has been a common theme for playoff teams The best playoff run Kirby had was when he had dudes stay.
Uga, bama, lsu, and Clemson are magnets for the best recruits. The talent level between those teams is basically level. The only clear advantage occurs when you have older players or a stud an or both.

Rousseau and Roche should both have great seasons, and Phillips is just as talented, so we hope Phillips can stay healthy. Don’t sleep on Jahfari Harvey. Harvey is really good, and he will definitely play. Williams could also crack the rotation. The Canes are loaded at DE, and if they can pressure the QB without blitzing, this defense can be very very elite
Redshirt freshman Jahfari Harvey might be the most underrated player on the Miami Hurricanes defense right now.

Harvey may not be getting the same publicity as his three edge rushing teammates at Miami, but it is fair to say the UM coaching staff is equally as excited about seeing him on the field in 2020.

The Hurricanes might feature the most talented trio of edge rushers on any team going into the 2020 season with Gregory Rousseau, Quincy Roche, and Jaelan Phillips leading the charge at the position.

According to defensive coordinator Blake Baker, Harvey offers some intriguing physical traits that makes him a player Miami fans should know going into the 2020 season.

He is different than those other guys in a good way,” Baker said of comparing Harvey to the talented trio. “He is super twitched up. He has a different skill set than those other guys. In my opinion, if you talk about pure speed, he can run better than any of those other guys. That is something that he uses to his strength, his speed-to-power.”

I hate folks who start a sentence with "So."

So. If we run a NASCAR package this year - all DE's - would that quality as first or second degree murder?

Or if we only ran three - could we slide on manslaughter?
