It would make sense for the schools who had the bag game to still use it. Everybody hates paying taxes. It must make it harder to recruit kids to schools in California.

Love the mystery and intrigue here. In the recruitment of Cantwell, since he's topic of the day, do you believe his parents/family may receive "undeclared cash" in addition to NIL money? Is there a little something to go along with the NIL?

Oh, there's intrigue all right.

Miami is fighting back.

yea makes the pepe commitment even more odd

Its over close thread
I’ve been out of the loop for months but last week I was asked about the NIL number for Cantwell. There was ridiculous numbers going around. I asked multiple people about it and the number was in fact bs. When I asked about where he was going both said it’s UGA. Then I checked with somebody close to UGA side and they felt the same way. Now that all started in middle of last week with nothing changing during the weekend. As of this AM there’s a little more hope. Normally these don’t end well but this is the number one player in the country, so it’s more than a normal recruitment . Adding an elite player like this can do a lot for a class and the perception. It would also be a win over one of the big dawgs in CFB. So I doubt the staff will wave a white flag until he commits.

You know what it is. Stop being an *** about this subject.

It's undeclared cash. Can be given to coaches, family members, and/or friends.

It seems like an unbelievably unnecessary risk to get undeclared cash like that when NIL is perfectly legal. Like say 2 million in NIL is really 2.4 million in undeclared money. Why not just pay 400,000 more and not have to worry about tax evasion charges or the school getting hammered by the DOJ or NCAA? Between the apparel deals and boosters, 400k more is nothing for a school like UGA. Give the money to Cantwell, and then he can give all he wants to family members, friends, etc.

It would be like owning a business where you make 2 million a year net that you declared on your tax filing, but not reporting another 400k. Going to risk jail and your reputation over 50k in additional taxes? Why would anyone rational do that?

My issues with Mario are mainly minor things. The one thing that really ****ed me off (even though I knew from jump why he was doing it) is how he's personally choosing to deploy special teams. As someone that came from those factory years he knows **** well the power of a truly dynamic special teams. We applied genuine pressure each & every Saturday with our kick off returns, punt returns & even kick offs themselves. To know Mario is now taking a cautious approach really ****ed me off. Chris Johnson for instance we were telling him don't push the issue. Only come out when it's safe. I get it the kids vision was ****, he didn't have the best of hands. But he is fast as ****. Let's see what he can do, even more so Robbie Washington. That kid is lightning in a bottle. We didn't play him particularly cause we didn't trust if he'd take it safe. We're spending 15 minutes in practice covering that. Time management in general and delegating responsibilities. The climate of college sports now is very different for obvious reasons. And we're adapting and ways I never imagined we would. But don't take our weapons what makes us unique from the rest of the country or at least most of it and hamper us.
Thanks for the insight and I totally agree. We don’t block punts, we don’t house kickoffs or punt returns nowhere near what we used to. It’s almost non-existent now.

Yea parents taking under table money with NIL to me just wouldn't be worth it. Nobody likes paying taxes but there's a reason you pay them because of you don't trouble is not too far.

I think it’s just a matter of time before a college team becomes a S Corp and issuesshares of the team to players as a supplement to NIL. Top players get a larger % of the shares (they have to sell when they leave the program). School gets a percentage of profits to distribute to other sports, remainder goes to the football team to get distributed per share percentage.

Since S Corps are capped at 100 members, might lead to some interesting internal machinations- the top players with the most shares would have to give up some of their own shares to bring in another top recruit. You would see which teams have selfish players and which ones have players willing to give away their shares to bring in another potentially elite player.

It goes on and it helps certain programs a lot. Cash is always king . Get some on the books money with NIL then some off the books cash. If they make a salary cap or some kind of limits it’ll give the power back to the same handful of programs from the bag days.

Yes.

Plus, this one will impact several other recruits.

Pretty sure I read the RB we got in the portal was going to go to CAL until we showed him how much he would be paying in state tax there.

$2 Mil in undeclared money is closer to $3 million. Might want to check your tax tables.

Look, I'm not trying to justify this situation, I just know that SEC schools had very well-oiled "bag" machines pre-NIL, and they didn't shut them down when NIL became a thing. So those schools have two guns to our one.

And if you think tax fraud doesn't happen because people are worried about "risk" and "reputation", well, I've got news for you...

That would be correct.

And I know that there are certain advisors who have frequently pointed out to recruits that they need to take into account state income taxes. Not naming any names, but they might coach at the 7-on-7 level.

I am feeling hopeful again and take back all the negative things I said.
