That would be a fine excuse if Manny Diaz was the HC. Cristobal is getting paid a lot of money to be a closer, and OL is supposed to be his wheelhouse (not surprising our other 5 stars are OL).. The number of 5 stars who are going to programs other than SEC/B1G is dwindling. The stats don't lie- going back to 2011, if you don't have at least six 5 stars on the roster you aren't going to be competitive for a national championship.

This was one of the rare 5 stars who was taking UM seriously and had us in front. If you can't close on an OL like this after being in front for months after offering more money AND the prospect of getting coach by Cristobal and Mirabal, then it's might be time to start planning for our next HC and focus only on HCs that have proven they can field a playoff caliber team without a roster full of 5 stars... since that is what we're going to have to get used to anyways.

And you can't use the excuse of Miami not being a culture fit- we weren't crossing our fingers and trying to flip him away from some KKK adjacent SEC school. We were the overwhelming favorite for months, and then something happened to drop us out of first place. I don't think he was using UM to up UGA's bag, but some unknown factor made the difference. I'm hoping it doesn't come out that his determining factor is that Smart convinced him UGA is on an upwards trajectory and we are on a downwards trajectory. If that's the case, it's going to hard for Cristobal to recover. I was worried missing the playoffs with Cam Ward was going to look really bad to recruits. I thought the only way to mitigate that perception was $$$. Miami would need to overpay to get the top kids until Cristobal could show more success on the field (at which point the price would come down). But if more $$$ isn't working now, that's a real bad sign and this might be the canary in the coalmine.

I probably shouldn't have any hope, but I'm still clinging to the tiniest optimism that Cristobal can reel him in.
if you follow recruiting long enough you know there are certain constants. One is - You win some you lose some and the other is you can’t force the kid to come to your school.

SO UGA HAD TO UP THE ANTE? It was always about the money once he said he was ready to commit and didn’t need to see anything else.

Doing what’s best for my family coming soon till next year in the portal to squeeze a couple more millions before declaring NFL ready the following year.

CFB is a joke to these children only ME and my wallet.

My oh my what have these people done to a great fun Saturday afternoon of CFB .

Soon these children will be doing interviews with a sponsor they have to play commercials before the speak ,
Then the sponsor will want a closing commercial for more money for these children.

My humble opinion is Mario tried his best but other factors are involved including money, atmosphere, playing in the SEC, and for a winning program. Georgia fits all those qualities and UM failed big time last year not getting into the playoffs and or winning the ACC. I still have a problem with many on this board thinking last year was a very successful season. With the talent we had and having a generational QB Mario still couldn't win and flopped as usual at the end of the season. I just hope he can have another long conversation with the kid and convince him UM is the right place. That's what Mario is being paid for because he lacks in so many other departments.

What talent do you speak of? Did you see the defense? Rhetorical question.
