Seriously who gives a **** if the HC is a recruiter or not. I want someone who will win the game with Xs and Os alone. Win and the recruits will come naturally, thats the greatest thing about being in Miami...Even a bad recruiter can finish with a top10 class. Plus the HC could always hire good positional recruiters. Everyone always makes a bigger deal than it is about having a HC that can recruit. Trust me if we hire a big name guy that is a great coach AND PROVEN at high levels of competition, it'll basically recruit itself.

I'm bullish on Herman, not Fuente. But this line of thinking is incredibly flawed. Florida has found out in 5 games that McElwain was the right hire, not 5 years. And he sure as **** fit that "up and comer" description you're lobbying against. UF's going to lose a few games this year, but they're already ahead of schedule in their rebuild because he's already proven he can win before even getting his own players in there.

It's also worth noting that pretty much everyone realized Golden was a bust after 3 years, not 5. It's just that our administration is so apathetic/incompetent that they've thrown 2 additional years away because Golden's contract was foolishly extended after a six-win season and they were too cheap/stubborn to admit their mistake.

The efficiency of Herman's offense issue is a thing of beauty. They're now up 42-21 with 3:09 left in the 3rd. Ward has been terrific.

Worth noting that Houston's defense has come out very aggressive here in the 3rd quarter, which has stifled SMU's offensive attack. On the previous series, they sent 6 rushers and gave up a 40+ yard pass play because the safety fell down as the last line of defense. But they continued to dial up the pressure on the next few plays, putting SMU behind the chains with a sack on second down and blowing up a screen with a creative pressure from a two-man front (sent two unexpected rushers from the right side as several defenders crept up pre-snap) on third down to force a punt.

Houston's now up 49-21. Offense is rolling as you'd expect against SMU's defense, and their D hasn't given up a point in the second half.

It's amazing that Greg Ward was a WR at Houston just over a year ago. He's now one of the most dynamic, efficient dual-threat QBs in the country. Great feet in space to make defenders miss.

Because literally everywhere Herman has gone he has had a lot of success. He's been OC at like 4 schools and had a lot of success, including obviously the last one, which was tOSU. And now he is doing a pretty **** good job at Houston.

But you have to also consider who he'll be bringing in with him as his positional coaches. Who do you think will bring better overall position coaches, someone like Chuck Pagano, Hue Jackson, Chip Kelly, Chud, Kiffen, etc...or Fuente. I think Herman will also have better connections being that he was also the OC at tOSU. We do need a big named guy. I don't want someone small, and on the "come up" when we can get a proven winner.
Granted we will probably turn out to be much too cheap to get someone like Hue Jackson or Chip Kelly, I could easily see us getting Chud or Butch.

But like I said (not sure if it was in this thread or another), Ideally for me, Pagano as HC, Chud as OC, and Butch as DC (and Recruiting Coordinator). That would be sick, to say the least, but much too expensive for us.

Interesting game to watch this Thursday: Auburn (-2) vs. Kentucky @ 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN

Coming into this season, I was interested in seeing how Mark Stoops would do before forming a firm opinion about him as a potential candidate. Stoops has Kentucky off to a 4-1 start with victories over South Carolina & Missouri, a five-point loss to UF that looks more impressive after how the Gators dismantled Ole Miss, and surprisingly close one-score victories over Louisiana-Lafayette & Eastern Kentucky.

UK is set to enter the toughest stretch of their schedule (vs. AUB, @ MSST, vs. TEN, @ UGA) starting Thursday against Auburn. Stoops took over a Kentucky program that went 2-10 in 2012 (before his arrival). After going 2-10 in his first season (2013) and 5-7 in his second year, it appears that Stoops has UK on the verge of making another significant leap. If Stoops can win two of these next four SEC games, there's a chance for Kentucky to have their first nine-win season since 1984.

Tom Herman's team televised again this Friday: Houston (-17.5) at Tulane @ 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU

Herman, who has Houston ranked in the AP Top 25 for the first time since the end of the 2011 season, is off to a great start at Houston. Dual-threat QB Greg Ward is one of the most efficient, dynamic players in the entire country. Tulane shouldn't be a big test for them, but Herman's style of play is certainly worth watching for those who aren't as familiar with him. Terrific young offensive mind.
