IMO, it will be pretty clear if he's the next "up and comer" by how they perform this season. And if he is, I hope we go all in.

I cannot envision UM spending money on a buyout.
That's big boy football and I've yet to see UM athletics act in that manner.

Herman is probably waiting on the next vacancy at Texas, TexasAM, TCU or maybe even LSU.

Landscape has changed somewhat these days.
Even the very ambitious coaches are looking for big-time commitments in not just their
salary package, but also the other stuff like assistant coaches salaries,etc.
I don't see UM spending loot on two (Golden and new coach's) buyouts plus the other
stuff that he would be asking.

Well all of this is a real bummer. I had my sights set on this guy but sadly it's probably over before it even started. I guess we can all dream but, in reality, $2.25 million buyout isn't likely to happen here.

Like has been said in this thread, time to see if the University of Miami wants to play with the big boys or not because, money aside, Tom Herman would be an absolute homerun hire here.

Pruitt is not just an elite recruiter. He's an ace coordinator, too.

What I like about Pruitt is that he understands elite college football and elite Southern athletes. The entirety of his college coaching experience is Alabama, Florida State and Georgia. One of Golden's biggest flaws is that his philosophies were shaped at Penn State and crappy Mid-Atlantic programs. That's all he knew before he took this job.

He is one of those guys whose name is being bandied about especially after working for
Tressel and Schiano.
He is a rah-rah, high-energy type with solid recruiting credentials, but with very little coordinator
experience, a type we are already familiar with.
Avoid, IMO.

Pagano all over the Twitter right now. Doesn't get along with ownership. Shades of Harbaugh last year. Closest thing to a home run hire I can hire, short of Butch or Tressel.

I would take Pagano in a heart beat, even though i'm a little concerned with how bad his defense has looked lately.

Yeah but coaches also want to win championships especially the competitive ones like Meyer. I remember Urban didn't want to go ND his dream job because he didn't think he could win a championship.

Seriously do you think he is leaving the pros, he is doing a pretty darn good job and doing it with cancer.

Alot, if not all, college coaches won't admit it, but winning a national championship isn't necessarily no.1 on their list these days.
Winning their conferences, playing and winning in bowl games, living somewhere where the family (read: wife) is happy, making
alot of money, college atmosphere,etc are just as important to them.
If alot of those boxes are checked, they may not be interested in alot of so-called "bigger" jobs.
That is not to say that Morris and Herman are lifers in their current jobs, I do think they will move on to bigger jobs.
But at some point the jobs at Oklahoma, Texas, TXAM, LSU and maybe even TCU or Baylor (if their coaches ever move
on) will open up....so they may not have a need to jump at any job.

I watched Marshall win their first game ... And they should have lost it to Purdue. Purdue HC went hella conservative, and they blew it.

I expect that Purdue job to be open at the end of the year.

Miami will pay the necessary price to obtain Pagano because he is a "Miami" guy. I don't know if he will leave the league but I think a respectable offer will make him listen. Miami is not as broke as they pretend to be.

I agree that he's a very good coordinator. I like his style. I just don't think UM is in a position to take a chance on a coordinator with no track record at all as a HC. He could be the next genius, or he could be a total bust as a HC. Just because you're a good coordinator doesn't mean you'll be a good HC.

UM's situation is too dire to take that sort of chance. If we miss on this next HC we might as well switch off the lights.
