ITT We Follow Potential 2015 Coaching Candidate Week 4

So, I'll ask you directly ...

Does Fuente become your number 1 after he beats Houston and SMU this season?

Very interested to see SMU vs. Houston on October 8. Chad Morris head-to-head against Tom Herman.

Herman's my #1 guy right now. Interested to see how he builds on yesterday's upset victory on the road over Petrino.

Of course not. Neither Herman nor Morris are even coaching players they've had a chance to recruit to their respective programs for a full year yet. Fuente's been at Memphis since 2012 and has his guys there. I'm interested to see what happens, but the outcome won't drastically sway my opinion.

Herman's my top choice. It's not like he suddenly ascended to the top with that Louisville win, though that was certainly a very impressive accomplishment. I was very interested in Herman for Miami if we rightfully fired Golden after last season.

- Comes from Urban's coaching tree and is implementing everything he learned under him now that he's at Houston.
- Adapts his offense to his personnel. He's spoken about this at length and it's a huge deal, especially with all the "square peg, round hole" nonsense we've seen under Golden here.
- Places a strong emphasis on strength and conditioning, which has been lacking here for a long time.
- Ohio State's national title run last year when they were down to their third-string QB? Herman developed all three of them (Miller, Barrett, and Jones) as OSU's QB coach and co-OC from '12-'14. He had a lot of talent to work with and that player development was a huge reason why they won the natty.
- Broyles Award winner in 2014.
- While Golden poisoned this team with a pathetic coal of winning the ACC Coastal in Year 5, Herman's Year 1 goal at Houston that he's conveyed to his players is to earn a Group of Five spot in the New Year's Day bowl games.
- To go along with his coaching prowess, which is the most appealing aspect of his resume, he's already landed a verbal commitment from a five-star DT. At Houston. He was also a great recruiter at OSU under Urban, so he provides the best of both worlds.

Fuente's an impressive guy, but I'm definitely focused on Herman the most. Curious to see how this season plays out for all the potential candidates we're following, though.
I like Herman too, but don't underestimate how good his QB is. That kid's sensational. His transition at Houston is a lot easier because of the playmaking ability of Ward.

Absolutely. Ward is a baller. Herman's track record of developing Barrett and Jones behind Miller at OSU is a huge feather in his cap, because he was fortunate enough to arrive at Houston with a very talented QB to work with from Day 1. He didn't turn chicken s*** into chicken salad at the QB position at either of his last two stops, but he did a heck of a job developing quality talent as OSU's QB coach and co-OC. That caliber of talent is presumably what he'd work with here, too, if hired.

I keep reading this Fuente guy named in a lot of posts in this thread. I will admit that I don't know anything about him. Can somebody give me a quick synopsis of what type of offense and defense he plays? I'm not as concerned about the offense as I am with an aggressive defense being implemented after AG is gone.

Best thing to do is pull up one of their games on YouTube.
So much stuff out there these days.
One can see for themselves.

Nice list. Don't know if I have Matt Campbell listed in the OP but will add him.

At minimum, Chad Morris will deliver an upgrade to the offense at his next school.

What he's done with SMU's O in 1 season is significant. And that game was against the all-mighty Gary Patterson D at TCU!

Get Mark Stoops out my face

Chad Morris may be good.

Mark Stooge is a **** hype ball. Always has been.

Morris is showing his offensive acumen at SMU, and Clemson this year is nowhere near what it was last year offensively with Morris. There's no questioning his offensive mind. I'd like to see if he can improve that SMU defense at all though.

Chip Kelly would be amazing here. He's 20-12 the last two years so I'm not sure how many loses he needs to get fired.

I'm an Eagles fan and I'll admit that I'm not going to visit the Eagles message board for the next couple of days. I suspect he's already starting to lose a contingent of the fan base. These first two games have been terrible to put it kindly. I don't he's a realistic candidate to come here because he'll cost too much but his offense would kill it here. Problem would be, as it was with Oregon, whether he could field a competitive defense which he failed to do often if my memory is correct. Also, his offense tended to be shut down by stout defenses such as Stanford.

His recruiting base would be filled with much better defensive players (except DT). If he gets fired, I don't think he would pass up a job where he could win right away like Miami. As inept as our BOT is, they would offer Chip a big contract to come here imo

Anyone watch Memphis v. Bowling Green? That was a fun game. The AAC will be an interesting conference this year.

Time to reach out to this guy. They've got a real chance at tanking this season.

He's completely miscast in the NFL. This dude is a college football HC.

I wish our school had some forward thinkers. The problem with our school is they are not prepared to do what is necessary if Chip is let go. My guess is with Chip, you get one chance and one offer. Our stupid school will probably want to interview him and haggle. Please send us a resume.

He would be a beast with almost no competition in the ACC. Could you imagine the field day he would have in the Coastal? He would run a rape train on that conference. To dream!
