it's too quiet ... i think we got a good team

Worried about DT. Heard they did not fare as well as I’d hoped in the last scrimmage.

ND will be trotting out Love and likely their “running QB” with Minchey. Gotta toughen up.
that's contrary to all accounts ... first team defense had the upper hand until they started subbing guys out

i'm not the biggest beck homer, however the perception doesn't reflect the reality ... 24-3 can't be denied ... you don't play poorly under pressure in the SEC and amass as 24-3 record ... he's had some adversity not doubt, but he got it done ...
Sure Beck wasn't Bad last year, but he was barely above average to maybe fringe good. 2023 he was great. 2024 Beck vs 2023 Beck vs 2024 Ward by PFF grading:

Big Time Throw - 4.8% vs 3.8% vs 6.3% - So this is Average relative to cam, but a decent improvement from the previous season. We need him to take another leap to above 5% in BTT%. Beck had 5 games without a BTT by PFF. Cam only had 1 (FSU). Cam had 10 games above 5% BTT% and 6 games above 7%. Beck in 24 had 7 games above 5% and 3 games above 7%. Cam had a full yard deeper Average Depth of Target.

Turnover Worthy Plays - 3.8% vs 2.3% vs 3.3% - This is very bad imo. Cam didn't have the lowest Turnover worth play %, but he overcame it by making a lot of big time plays. And as we see above Beck wasn't doing that. Yet his Turnover play % was 0.5% higher than Cams last year. Beck must be better, and must return to his 2023 form in this respect, which was Great. A 1.5% increase in Turnover Worthy Plays is absolutely concerning. It is by far my biggest concern with the entire team at this point. Beck had three games with 3 INTs - Florida, Texas, and Alabama. Thats how you doom a game to fail unless you have absolutely Elite Defense and ST performance that game.

Passing Grade - 80.2 vs 90.8 vs 91.7 - This is a massive dropoff for Beck. In 23 he was graded pretty elite as a passer, slightly below Cam this year, but Cam was the best QB in the country. We absolutely want/need Beck to return to a 90 graded passer. 80.2 just wouldn't be all that acceptable, period. In 2023 Beck had 6 games graded <70, and 3 games graded >90. In 2024 he had 8 games graded <70, and 1 game graded >90. **** he had 4 games graded below a 60 and they were the 4 bigger games of the year when he had none <60 in 2023... Cam last year had 3 <70 and 5 >90 (and no game <60).

There is no universe where Becks 2024 season should be the desired outcome for us this season. He needs to improve, period. We need a 2023 like performance out of him.

Great stats ... my only reply is I'd prefer the stats were based on running the same offense ... all your arguments could have been used vs cam prior to his one year at miami ... here's one counter stat, prior to last year cam was considered a late round pick ... prior to last year Beck was considered a top 5 overall pick and fringe first round pick despite the numbers you stated

if it ain't happening this year then it ain't happening is the way I look at it

we're going into game 1 against a team that played in the national championship and most (outside of ND fans and ND media) expect us to control the line of scrimmage - that would be an unheard of statement the last 20 years here

we have a qb who went 24-3 in the SEC facing a team starting QB for the first time

we're at home

this is why Mario is getting paid big $$ and he needs to win this game

Sure, but Beck had the same offensive system both years, only thing different was not having Bowers and Ladd - which I don't think we have someone like either on our team either... And at the end of the day UGA last year had more and higher drafted skill players than we did except for Arroyo really. Their RB, WRs, Olineman were all drafted higher than ours... Even with all the drops.

Cam had things he absolutely needed to improve heading into 2024. Namely fumbling and not defaulting to hero ball too much and just being wild/careless with the ball. Which he took a major step forward. We need the same from Beck this year. Pretty simple. We need 2023 Beck, not 2024 Beck in terms of Turnovers but he need to be >5% BTT%.

I have no doubt we have a good team and a very good roster unfortunately our record has never reflected that for the past 20 years lol

CJJ was so frustrating to watch man. Dude was one of the fastest sprinters in the country as a senior yet that speed never carried over. Marion averaged 26 YPR last year, I’d assume that number is closer to 28-30 this year
Why do you assume that? When has Miami had a solid return game (or coverage unit) under Mario?

PS Marion’s three best games: all vs losing teams.

2023 when Brashard Smith was all conference?

And since you wanted to bring up 2023 to help your argument (and dilute Marion’s all conference season) let’s talk about the 6 yard jump from 23 to 24 per return.

Marion a year older, and is being considered AA by some outlets. He’s gonna house a few no doubt this season.

There is more internal confidence than I can remember. Time will tell, but Mario is in an unusually chipper mood (with his usual intensity and urgency).
This is the deepest most talented team top to bottom we’ve had since probably ‘04? He’s got some horses to work with, and we should finally be able to avoid the late season nose dive by rotating guys within each position group throughout the season with little to no dropoff.

We need to make a strong statement to the entire sports media world that we are truly back. Not sorta kinda back but all the way back by physically punishing teams 35-3.

Have you seen an optometrist recently? You need to.

After you get fitted for your new glasses, watch this clip:

Dude could've set up a campsite back there, laid in his hammock, then still have time to complete the pass. Yes it's one example. Yes he was pressued a few times last year. However our O Line is clearly a strength, if not THE strength, of the team and that includes in the run game and the pass game.

It’s clear that Mario’s philosophy is OL first. He puts a premium on elite OL performance. I’m guessing his mindset is: While Kirby and the rest of them salivate over DTs and try to hoard them to win with DL as the strength of the team, he’s banking on a strong OL to negate that threat.

Chess move and I respect him for sticking to his philosophy. Will it work? I truly hope so because there is some logic there.

I’m not an OL guru like @gogeta4 and some of the others and I’ve always been a DL first guy, but Bill Parcells back in the 80’s in an interview said you build championship teams starting with the OL.

Mario better come out passing. We know both of these teams are stacking the box. If we come out running 1st, 2nd with inside zone( I will not tote the company line) and passing on 3rd with Carson Beck against a stacked box, I will be on 🔥 immediately. This isn't a big deal to him. Pass them out of the box and keep them honest. My whole focus right now is worrying about our rush D that I can't do anything about. I think Carson can have a good game, if these young players can stay calm and focused. I am still debating on drinking for tailgating and in the stadium. In the 17 game, one of the few, I didn't tailgate for and I had 3, maybe 4 stadium beers, so I was much more focused than 3 hrs of drinking before the game.

He'll test the box regardless.
