It's Time To Get That Stadium Done

UM will never have a stadium on campus so let's stop with the nonsense. Perhaps they end up playing so where closer like Tropical Park, Marlins Park, or the potential new Beckham stadium. Fortunately they are playing in an updated start of the art Super Bowl quality stadium starting next year so it can't be all that bad.

How many more seats could the sell if Butch was HC? Might have to expand SLS.

Tropical Park is the only place viable. It is 5+ minutes away, has all the land we need, and has access to an adjacent major highway. Yes, getting out will be a cluster ****, but it can't be any worse than waiting for the ******** blocking you in Little Havana even though you paid for "$20, no blocky." Jesus, I have waited two hours to leave every now and then.

There simply is no room on campus. We are not going to pay 100 million or whatever for Sunset Place, nor are we going to buy all that expensive real estates around the school. Gables isn't going to let us build something that big regardless. I am afraid, it's Tropical or bust. We might lose Santa's Enchanted Chinstrap Fest, but who cares. Off campus gives the added caveat of being able to consume alcohol in the stadium as TedHendricks pointed out.

What is the "political" issue with Tropical Park? Anybody knows why is being ignore as a stadium location??

Well, another option is ....drain lake osceola or part of it!

Because FIU won't allow it, they don't want competition for the stadium that they are having trouble paying for

Look what Baylor did for their school. Baylor is roughly the same sized school (16000 enrollment), small, private. They opened up a new 45,000 seat stadium that expands to 55,000 if they need it. I think it cost $260 mm? Surely something like that is possible for us? Theirs is 860,000 sq feet built on the River front.

Baylor had about 6k fans at their game in the new on-campus stadium just a few days ago.. Rain or no rain they are a top 5 team playing a conf opponent. They get a pass.

The scary part about this is the University of Miami has never had a vision nor a plan to build its own stadium. Why not start a fundraising campaign now to plan for life after SLS in nearly 10 years or so?

How do you know they are ever going to get a Super Bowl in that stadium? Have you seen the new NFL stadium's that are hosting superbowl's? They are Much larger with better amenities

They'll get one because Stephen Ross has been a towel boy for the NFL. Renovate the stadium... DONE. Sacrifice a home game to play in London for the next 38193 years... DONE.

Is the Beckham Stadium a no go?

Pretty sure the train left the station on that one. Beckham & co. and MLS were adamant about the stadium being ~25k seats, UM needed at the MINIMUM 40k, preferably 45-50k.

It actually looks like they're proceeding without us but with a stadium capacity of 30k. It's beyond stupid that we can't be involved if the capacity desires are now not that far apart. Again, get Adidas involved. They LOVE futbol.

since we all know the u of Miami is not gonna buck up and pay for a new stadium. What they really need to do is tarp off most of the top sections except a few maybe and open up the lower sections for cheaper prices to get it filled up. of course the closer you get to the field the more expensive. I also think the canopy next year will help with attendance. But the main focus should be to get that lower bowl filled so that it looks better on TV and it creates a louder atmosphere against opposing teams.

I agree with you 100% but...

A good portion national media does not care about facts. We upgraded our facilities from awful to respectable and none of them have cited it. They just go off word of mouth and pass along their agenda/preconceived perception of what our program is. We have dudes trying to say UCF is a better job because they have an IPF and on campus stadium. They tell us we are living in the 80s when 28 canes (the most out of any school) have been drafted in the first round since 2000. We have 9 rookies on NFL rosters. They would trash us for some reason no matter what.

One of the funniest narratives I've seen is we have unrealistic expectations because of our previous success. Lane kiffin (who had harsher sanctions than golden) was fired at the beginning of year 4 w/ a similiar winning percentage as golden. No one used the narrative of "USC fans are too demanding & kiffin didn't get enough time." Gene chizik was fired in year 4 only two years removed from a national title. That was Auburn's first title in over 50 years (those bull**** "titles" that they claim doesn't mean anything. Auburn is the only school dumb enough to claim a national championship in a year they were banned, before the season started, from postseason play) and their first undefeated season in ten years. No way in **** would either have those guys gotten fired at that time if they coached at Miami. We demand championships but Golden was not even winning the Coastal.

The national media is clueless. No program is feared the way that our program is feared when we have all the right pieces in place, and we all know why. We have the best recruiting base in the nation and second place is not even close. Anyone who knows anything about college football recognizes that if we ever get up off the mat and start swinging its a rap. No we won't win the NC every season, but we'll be part of the discussion. The right coach - Butch for example - turns this thing around overnight because the pieces are largely already in place to win and win big.

Based upon what we've seen the past three hires, my fear is that our BOT and athletic administration will ***** up this hire. With regard to handling our football program our executive level leadership has been asleep at the wheel for a decade now, and in the same regard there is nothing that I've seen from our AD that projects either confidence or competence. I remain hopeful because that's all I have. I give the BOT credit for finally doing what was obvious to most of us two seasons ago.

How about something out here -

https://www.google.com/maps/@25.7741111,-80.4178067,3902m/data=!3m1!1e3

It's further than the OB used to be, but definitely closer than SL. It would be easier to get in and out of no doubt. The Dolphin expressway could be extended right into the parking lot and tolls suspended on game day. Other than tropical park there's no easy solution. There's tons of room to build what you want and have all onsite parking. You could even have an upcharge parking lot with larger spaces for tailgaters.

We might be able to fill a local high school stadium, for the next two home games.

When will some of you realize that we have about 8K students living on or close to campus at anytime. Assuming the 50% make it to the game (that is a stretch) , you guys want to put a $200 million stadium near campus for 4000 students???

Really!!!??

Puleaze!!! Miami is not college town... it is an event based town with a small alumini and student population ..... tickets sell for a winning product and high entertainment value.

Put a winner on the field and a bit of flash, the crowds will come!!

Stop this nonsense that Tropical Park or S Miami stadium is going to bring in the crowds!!

Hire a winning coach who will light the fire!!!

For some of you suggesting Tropical Park, have you even been to that area on a weekend now without a stadium??? Talk about 3 hour traffic on game days... That freeway is a parking lot on good days.......you will be begging for Sun life after that!!

And S Miami... via USeless 1 .... nothing more to say!!

I feel like they can work around the number by adding additional seats for the UM games. Something like in the OB when playing FSU, those extra bleachers in the end zone

i feel like beating my head against a wall every time an on-campus stadium is proposed. even if we had all of the money to build a stadium, the project wouldn't be viable because the nearest access to a highway is over 3.5 miles away (826) and 95 is almost 6 miles away. have you seen campus when the univision awards are there? traffic is stopped up for miles. if you wanted to extend highway access to the gables, it could not be accomplished without hundreds of homes and businesses being destroyed along the way. buying those properties takes money, demolishing them takes money, and constructing new roads takes a ****load of money (and all of that requires the blessing of both miami-dade and the state of florida). planning for an on-campus stadium is a waste of time because the window to build it closed decades ago.

the only realistic site for a stadium is tropical park.

The UM administration has NO vision, it's all reactionary. They should at least explore the possibilities of something cozier and closer to campus.

As far as an on campus stadium goes, that's not going to happen. First of all, they wouldn't be able to sell alcohol on campus and I know that's a tragedy.

We need to hope for something in proximity that isn't on the Broward Country border in the middle of purgatory with nothing even remotely resembling a Miami night atmosphere. If memory serves, the Orange Bowl wasn't on campus. I like the Tropical Park suggestion or closer. A metro rail stop distance would be helpful. Just putting the stadium halfway closer would be helpful. Does anybody else have a geographical suggestion that's within a 15 minute drive where a 45,000 capacity stadium could be built that isn't Tropical Park?

The old Bakery Centre location is in South Miami. Rip down the POS that they have there and build a stadium there.

I wish Peacock Park were a viable option, but not enough land unless they fill some of the bay in. And even still not enough land it seems.

Or just run with a 30k seater stadium that is packed out and rocking every game.

If we sell out for a couple of years maybe you can have the discussion about extending it for another 10k or so. You'd have a much stronger case at that point.

It seems to me that SunLife, whilst apparently now a very nice stadium after the refurbishment, isn't fit for the purpose of UM football.
