It's Time To Get That Stadium Done

I agree with OP but let's just focus on getting Butch in here for now. The impending revenue should easily facilitate the building of any structures that are necessary.

Tropical Park is the only place viable. It is 5+ minutes away, has all the land we need, and has access to an adjacent major highway. Yes, getting out will be a cluster ****, but it can't be any worse than waiting for the ******** blocking you in Little Havana even though you paid for "$20, no blocky." Jesus, I have waited two hours to leave every now and then.

There simply is no room on campus. We are not going to pay 100 million or whatever for Sunset Place, nor are we going to buy all that expensive real estates around the school. Gables isn't going to let us build something that big regardless. I am afraid, it's Tropical or bust. We might lose Santa's Enchanted Chinstrap Fest, but who cares. Off campus gives the added caveat of being able to consume alcohol in the stadium as TedHendricks pointed out.

How would tropical park work?
Would UM have to buy a piece from the city?
Would they lease the land?
Would the city be even interested?

I hate it when someone says its 'impossible'. that word makes me cringe and want to punt babies.

Its possible. even if the chances are .01% possible....that's still possible.

This is the biggest problem facing UM football. No, we don't 'need' a stadium. But not having one will always have us labeled as not investing in football or being cheap. basically a second rate program.

That is bad enough, but sunlife makes it worse as nobody wants to watch games in such a ****** atmosphere. it is also not a real homefield advantage and its not very loud and opponents hardly get rattled. its better to watch at home, and that should not be the case.

Gonna be hard AF to bribe city officials in Coral Gables to get an on-campus stadium.

it needs to be done. why cant we talk to some jews like Arison and partner up with them for naming rights or something?

This can be done somehow but our admin is seriously not trying hard enough. they have to be embarrassed into doing something that's not on their agenda.

I don't want to hear where are we going to build a stadium on campus, or there is no land? It's a looser excuse; get it done even if it takes demolishing a few buildings on campus or whatever. This is serious business. Get it done.

I don't know much.about where the stadium is located as.being a problem. Sun life is just way too big. The Dolphins, hire Dan Campbell and it was rocking before the monsoon came.

Pressure from the media could possibly get things rolling. It's clear the fans can only do so much, public perception means a lot.

Alonzo Highsmith has been trying to get Tropical Park done for quite some time now. I haven't heard of any progress on that front so it doesn't seem like a likely option either. It's a shame because it would be the perfect situation

I agree with you 100% but...

A good portion national media does not care about facts. We upgraded our facilities from awful to respectable and none of them have cited it. They just go off word of mouth and pass along their agenda/preconceived perception of what our program is. We have dudes trying to say UCF is a better job because they have an IPF and on campus stadium. They tell us we are living in the 80s when 28 canes (the most out of any school) have been drafted in the first round since 2000. We have 9 rookies on NFL rosters. They would trash us for some reason no matter what.

One of the funniest narratives I've seen is we have unrealistic expectations because of our previous success. Lane kiffin (who had harsher sanctions than golden) was fired at the beginning of year 4 w/ a similiar winning percentage as golden. No one used the narrative of "USC fans are too demanding & kiffin didn't get enough time." Gene chizik was fired in year 4 only two years removed from a national title. That was Auburn's first title in over 50 years (those bull**** "titles" that they claim doesn't mean anything. Auburn is the only school dumb enough to claim a national championship in a year they were banned, before the season started, from postseason play) and their first undefeated season in ten years. No way in **** would either have those guys gotten fired at that time if they coached at Miami. We demand championships but Golden was not even winning the Coastal.

Spot on great post

Where in coral gables are they going to put a on campus stadium? They would have to tear down homes of wealthy to do that and frankly that wont happen, the OB was perfect not too far and perfect atmosphere, thanks to loria and shalala its gone now we are stuck at sun life with really no other options, i say use a ton of money and upgrade the **** out of everything else, if its impossible to strengthen your weakness, go make your strengths even stronger

Look what Baylor did for their school. Baylor is roughly the same sized school (16000 enrollment), small, private. They opened up a new 45,000 seat stadium that expands to 55,000 if they need it. I think it cost $230 mm? Surely something like that is possible for us

construction costs in waco are way lower than miami. that kind of project would be $350 million+ easily for us.

ugh??? see FIU and FAU construction costs.....your estimate is way over

UM will never have a stadium on campus so let's stop with the nonsense. Perhaps they end up playing so where closer like Tropical Park, Marlins Park, or the potential new Beckham stadium. Fortunately they are playing in an updated start of the art Super Bowl quality stadium starting next year so it can't be all that bad.

What is the "political" issue with Tropical Park? Anybody knows why is being ignore as a stadium location??

Well, another option is ....drain lake osceola or part of it!

I agree, I'd like to see how the stadium fills up with the complete renovations but those aqua seats are so **** annoying lol
