It’s December 1st..

Well guys, this may be it. I’m going to go on Sabbatical until the new guys are hired. See you all in January…or later.

UPDATE: I thought the PAC12 CH GM was on Saturday. Oops, it's on Friday. Well, that's definitely to our benefit!

Here's how I'm reading it now...

Lane hasn't done an extension and didn't get into serious contention with other jobs because (miracle of miracles) he really does want the UM job. This is not just good, but great!

UM has gone all in on Mario and when his game is over this Friday, he should have that evening to relax/celebrate and then we should either get a thumbs up from him on Saturday or we go for Lane.

And, if my theory is right about Mario not wanting to deal with questions about UM, then we should be able to fire Manny either late afternoon this Friday, or at the latest, by Saturday afternoon.

Lane will not wait forever, and his agent is hopefully applying the pressure to the brass at UM to crap or get off the pot. And look, if Lane is really willing to come here, it would be program suicide to not snatch him up immediately if Mario says no.

SOOOO....

I think it's very possible that we will have a HC announcement, AD or no AD, by the end of Sunday.

Anyway, that's how I'm reading the tea leaves.
Agreed, but...

Lane hasn't signed a long-term extension because Mississippi state laws prevent state employee contracts longer than four (4) years. Kiffin signed a four-year deal when he left FAU, and was adjusted/extended after Year 1. A revised four-year deal. Best Ole Miss could do is repeat the process and adjust/extend his current contact for one additional season. They could pay him whatever they want per year, as far as I know, but they cannot offer him a 10yr/$80-100M type deal like we've seen for Tucker, Riley, and Kelly.

From an article regarding his original contract signing at Ole Miss:

As is the maximum length deal allowed by Mississippi law, Kiffin receives a four-year, $16.2 million base salary with the university.

Regarding Mario...if he loses the PAC12CG would he leave Oregon before their bowl game? If he wins, would be leave before the Rose Bowl?

The state of Mississippi was pretty forward thinking in implementing that 4yr provision

LSU and Mich St are gonna hate themselves 3 years from now when they calculate the buyout checks to BK and Tucker

Let be honest, BK should do well at LSU. Fit is one of the most overrated things we have been throwing around these parts. JJ wasn't a Miami fit, but he could coach and then became synonymous with SFLA. BK is an ******* but he can coach his *** off. Remains to be seen with Tucker and I would agree that this was a terrible impulsive move by MSU and what started this year's arm race.

It's about courtesy and respect. You can't treat people like crap and then just tell them they should be tough enough to handle it.
Stop…It’s a business where they get paid millions and you’re trying to shield him from answering some questions from the media. And you define that as treating him like crap? If he can’t handle that, He shouldn’t be in the industry or our top choice. By the way Where’s the courtesy and respect for Diaz while we’re stringing him along? Or the courtesy for Oregon for stringing them along ? Or recruits or coaching staffs?

Them big checks he's been getting. If one feels like they're undervalued or being walked over, they should pack their sht and leave.

I’m not defending Diaz, I’m saying if someone thinks putting Mario in a position to answer some “tough” questions from the media is considered treating him like crap, they might want to look at others in the situation who have it much worse and have no power or recourse

Yes, it's a business. Where relationships are important. So you don't intentionally **** people off when there's absolutely nothing to be gained except pleasing some impatient fans.

You're assuming Manny doesn't know but it's highly likely his agent is shopping him around.

How does anyone not understand that there’s no need to throw distractions on his team as it relates to whether he’s our next coach or not??? It’s not the kind of request you don’t honor in this situation if you want the coach.

Reactionary Segment of CIS: “Well that just doesn’t work for me. Uhhhhhh…. I wanna see movement now and I don’t care about distractions to his players. **** them hahahaha it’s all about the U - woooo Rick flair! Whether you like it or don’t like it learn to love it - wooo! If he can’t handle it he’s a beta, not an alpha and I only want Alpha’s. Duhhhhh… chess not checkers bro… arrrrrarrrrrarrrr hahahaha.”

It's like they think life is a video game and we should play it like we've used an invincible cheat code.

You’re assuming Mario would be ****ed if Miami fires its coach on its own terms without taking into account his feelings, or that he would be ****ed by having to answer a few media questions. He’s a man, he’s 50…. This is also the same guy who left Miami high and dry for bama after 6 weeks. I’m sure he took everyone’s feelings into account when he made that move…or maybe career moves aren’t as dramatic as you make them out to be

It has nothing to do with what I want. It’s the fact that Miami is playing this Busch league as usual like they are complete amateurs. Catering to peoples sensibilities in a cut throat business as if Mario might not come if we fire Diaz on our own terms. and that timing might interfere with the pac 12 championship game and the media might ask him about the opening when he has 2-3 press conferences a week and does this for a living. Either that or Diaz staying is their plan B, and they have zero appetite for a risky coaching search outside of the obvious Miami alum
