Respectfully disagree. I want him to be gone today and if the reason why it wouldn't happen today is so the coach that we will hire doesn't have to answer a bunch of questions about if he's coming to Miami, then I would argue those questions will still come unless Miami publicly declares Manny is coming back.
Manny should be fired today. We gain little, if anything, by not firing him today.
The day that I'll be truly panicking will be on Monday at like 8pm or later, if Manny hasn't been fired. This will have given Mario enough time to play in the PAC12 CH GM, have Sunday to dork around, cross all the T's and dot all the eyes on a contract, etc. If Tuesday rolls around and Manny hasn't been fired, I will start hitting the panic button. HARD.
UPDATE: I thought the PAC12 CH GM was on Saturday. Oops, it's on Friday. Well, that's definitely to our benefit!
Here's how I'm reading it now...
Lane hasn't done an extension and didn't get into serious contention with other jobs because (miracle of miracles) he really does want the UM job. This is not just good, but great!
UM has gone all in on Mario and when his game is over this Friday, he should have that evening to relax/celebrate and then we should either get a thumbs up from him on Saturday or we go for Lane.
And, if my theory is right about Mario not wanting to deal with questions about UM, then we should be able to fire Manny either late afternoon this Friday, or at the latest, by Saturday afternoon.
Lane will not wait forever, and his agent is hopefully applying the pressure to the brass at UM to crap or get off the pot. And look, if Lane is really willing to come here, it would be program suicide to not snatch him up immediately if Mario says no.
SOOOO....
I think it's very possible that we will have a HC announcement, AD or no AD, by the end of Sunday.
Anyway, that's how I'm reading the tea leaves.
