I never said powerless. I said the AD fires the coach. We don't have an AD. Once we do, I expect we will learn the coach's fate.
So the AD has power when he is made to do something against his wishes? Makes total sense. Do you work at Miami? The penn state board fired paterno too as another example

Waiting has cost us more money on the back end. We waited around and allowed deep pocketed schools like USC and LSU to set the market for a winning coach. If we had paid the buyout, identified our guy and hired him, we may have been able to pay about 6 million a year. Now whatever coach we go after, their agent will use Riley and Kelly's contract to show what the market value is for a good caliber of coach. We will most likely have to come in at a minimum of 8 mill per year. So it cost us a dollar to save a dime.

What if Miami already planned on offering in the 7.5-8 million range? Now what ? What other way could they handle it without causing complete insanity around Mario / Oregon? Who at the time was in a playoff push.

Dec 1 is an insignificant date. It's Dec 5 that you should circle. If we land Mario, it'll come after the PAC 12 title game. Have a feeling that it's Mario or year 4 of Manny. Probably with Mark Richt at OC

Exactly. They absolutely could (and should) fire Manny before an AD is named. It's absurd that they haven't done so already. The approach they have taken is causing fans to be impatient during the AD search, and has only served to further the narrative that the BOT is dysfunctional.

The BOT will gladly force an AD to do something, but they'd never directly fire/hire someone themselves IMO. Too much exposure.

I agree with this. waiting on the Mario thing hasn't cost us a thing. he was never taking the job publicly during the season and he still has a game left while others do not. If the market changed, that's the cost of hiring a quality HC. you want him, you work it out with his agent to get him here. simple as that. again, miami wasn't hiring Mario before Riley got the USC gig or tucker got the extension.
