Is there a WR1 on this team?

It's pretty well-documented that Miami wanted a WR1 in the Portal. Unfortunately, they didn't have the QB lined up in winter (when supply was good) and the supply wasn't there in the spring. So it ends up as a miss.

But someone still needs to fill the targets. Who is going to emerge as the WR1? Keelan Marion strikes me more as a versatile #4, and CJ Daniels is more of a contested catch/possession guy until he proves he's as healthy as he was at Liberty.

IMO, the upside of this group will depend on the emergence and health of JoJo Trader and Malachi Toney. Those are the two with clear star potential.

I think Keelan Mario. can Be More than Just a #4 Reciever . He has Solid Size & Strength at 6 1/2’ 198 lbs & Explosiveness to be legit Deep Threat & running Ability to be a threat on in arounds & Jet Sweep Much like (#0Smith) who transferd to SMU.

Miami may hit on a Player that gives greater Value than what you thought. He is not Just a kick returner ,Gaget Player He Caught some Tough Catches that Move the Change on third down too.

No Josh Moore Mentioned? Some people think Moore was Just as impressive as Toney. With a Summer & Fall Pluse Beck he may be a dark Horse Candidate.

You do realize Rambo holds the UM single season record not only for receptions, but reception yards, right?

Stats don’t make you a #1 wr. Rambo literally lost his starting spot at Oklahoma and ended up being like the 3rd or 4th option. That doesn’t happen to a #1 wr. He was a guy that just got a lot of opportunities here with a weak wr core.

A guy like richards could’ve went to any team in cfb and been the top guy. That’s what a #1 is. A game changer.

What’s sadder is three of our best WRs the last decade, Harley, Rambo and X, went undrafted.

Berrios went in the 6th.

The best of the bunch was KJ, and he was a grad transfer.

If you wanna Label Rambo a "WR1" do you he was def productive here and ended up a good college WR.. but I see a true WR1 as someone who possesses those elite traits and measurables that you expect to see in a true WR1 basically a gamebreaker and nightmare for defenses to gameplan against. X for example was great in college and finished as our best WR statistically ever, but who here would consider him as anything close to a true WR1?

Rambo was not a WR1, neither was restrepo. We haven't had a true WR1 since Ahmon Richard. Before Ahmon, you got to go way back for a true WR1. Probably Dre. We've had some other solid WR, but not many dominant WR1 in a long time

Just out of curiosity, what do you consider a WR1? Like do they have to be a certain Hight? If X isn't a WR1, your definition clearly can't be based off of production because he is our all time leading WR and one of only 3 all-American WRs we've had. I'm not trying to knock you or anything, I'm just curious. WR1 has a different definition for every single person on this board

Under some interpretations above, which I respect, Tom Brady won all his Super Bowls at New England without having a WR1.

To me WR1 is a position, the same as a RB1. The guy that wins the starting position at WR, other than your slot receiver, who is the go to for your OC and or QB on mid-deep routes or fade routes in the red zone.
He may or may not lead a team in receptions, especially at UM where we have historically, on occasion, had RB’s, TE’s or slot receivers hold that distinction.

Would not surprise me at all if SD tried to use Lofton in a similar way that Monken used Bowers.

Okay so it's only height and speed for you, got it.

I hate the fact that X not getting drafted takes away from what he did here. He was one of the best WRs in college football last year, plain and simple. The only reason he wasn't a day two pick was because he decided to run the 40 injured


I’m fine with not giving the title of WR1 to X. I hate the term WR1. If Ward can put up huge numbers without a “WR1”, then why can’t Beck? Heck, Beck technically did it in 2023

If Josh Moore continues to develop, he has the physical tools to be a WR1. I initially thought he would turn into a TE. Watching the brief snippets of him in spring practice showed me he is a WR and one with massive upside. He will be hard to cover 1 on 1.

I think JoJo will be our best WR, I’ve always said he reminds me of Diggs. I think we’ll run more this year, that’ll take some of the pressure off the passing game as well. We have enough weapons to win the conference, Championship im not sure.
