Is the ACC better than we think?

The ACC gets slammed because it’s made up mostly of smaller private schools instead of large public schools like the Big 10 and SEC. But why should that impact the team on the field? It certainly didn’t when we played Texas A&M?
This is so true. Your statement actually made me research and 7 of the 16 schools in the conference (not counting ND) are private with relatively small student populations! In comparison, the SEC (Vandy) and Big10 (Northwestern, USC) each only have one and two, respectively.

Yes. That’s why the ACC didn’t get the big contract like the SEC (ESPN) and Big 10 (Fox). It’s a numbers games and simply business and marketing, because the networks want advertising dollars. Thus, the ACC doesn’t have a big network backing them and saying they are so great.

Edit: and even the ACC’s public schools are smaller than the SEC and Big 10 schools. Check the populations.

Yes- we all thought the conference sucked, just like the rest of the country. But, they keep winning games against other conferences. I don't put a ton of stock into bowl games now because you never know who is playing, who cares enough to train, who's around to coach, etc. But, you have to give some credit, and Miami's success is undeniable. Add in the dismal SEC post-season games, the B1G looking so top-heavy this year, and I think the ACC is a lot closer to the top 2 conferences than we ever thought possible. Still below, but not USA basketball vs. Slovenia worse.

half of the big 10 teams cant complete a forward pass. whereas even teams like cuse (normal year) can light your D up if you arent prepared. so yes it is & i always thought it was.

It doesn’t matter because conferences are about branding, and the ACC isn’t rebuilding theirs over meaningless non-CFP bowl games. The sport is going the way of the super conferences. You get a bump for being in one. Be in one. And no it’s not. The week to week football is pretty terrible.

ACC may be. ACC refs? Not a chance.
That’s a factor of the ACC leadership sucking, which contributes to the overall poor image as they aren’t as good with the PR as other conferences and they are generally a cluster**** and show their corruption and incompetence.

But again, they has nothing to do with the teams on the field.

The ACC is a mental gauntlet, not a physical one. Good coaches and diverse offenses mean you can’t get caught slipping or you’ll lose.

This.
The ACC's leadership has been AWFUL. And I'm probably being kind using the word awful. They were a phantom until about 3 days prior to the final CFP rankings coming out with regard to fighting for their team(s) to get in. The PR side of the ACC doesn't even seem to exist. I'm not even going down the Tobacco Road path - and that has legitimacy. There's just so much that they've sucked at.

No.

It's a high school league.

Miami is it's Ship of The Line standard bearer.

Think what US is to NATO...one country with a collection of strap hanging mouthbreathers hanging on.

Now, Miami has just recently taken on this role as the past 20 years have been mid at best. Previously FSU and Clemson held the slot.

Its why losses to Louie, SMU, GT, and Syracuse make you want to break your TV and question your sanity.

Put more simply....at present, #2-#N in ACC are significantly closer to BC and Stanford than they are our high performing Canes.

this year the ACC played 21 G5 teams, 16 FCS. Next year that likely drops to 17 g5 teams and 16-17 FCS. The p4 ooc game for 6 acc teams will be ND in 2026 just like 2025.

The SEC played 30 g5 games this year and only 16 next year. Wait until they only have 2-4 10 win teams similar to the other p4 conferences. If we consider ND in the ACC, the acc matched the B1G and b12 with 10+ win teams in the regular season. Once the SEC joins the rest of the world playing only 1 g5, 1 FCs, and 1 p4 ooc game, they will look even worse.

They got themselves in a pickle by betting on ND’s involvement in the conference.

Been saying it all year, having to prepare for many different styles of offenses & defenses in your conference is a very underrated task. It can nullify the talent gap you might have

That with our ooc schedule this year just look how many different styles of teams we played. These aren’t professional players, its hard to get them ready to play week to week while having to adjust
+ The refs
