Is Miami a desirable job anymore?

This. I don’t have a particular coach in mind (but this loss just make me want Cristobal or Lane just because). We need a coach who will actually coach, hold these kids accountable, and run the program as it should be ran. It’s a complete clown show now. Also recruit and DEVELOP!

Emphatically YES!!

Why would any of the coaches we should pursue want to come here? Because if a HC wanted a greased pole pathway to the playoffs. A good coach would have us in serious contention for the playoffs in November by year 2.

The Coastal has no teams that could actually become elite except for UM. The Atlantic has no less than 2!

If the administration commits the resources like they publicly said they would, this is an A+ job if your goal is to be in contention for the playoffs on a yearly basis. I truly believe we have close to a dozen candidates who could turn the Canes into a perennial 10 win team by year 2, if not year 1.

Richt was basically on automatic pilot here at Miami and mailing it in - just collecting a paycheck, same as his latter years at Georgia.

Ehhhh idk he seemed to have very noticeable fire those first two years…. He was definitely noticeably different in 18 and especially 19 health wise….

All I’m saying is even if he was in “automatic pilot” as you say he was…as our first good coach in over a decade he showed you can win big here and be in the playoffs easily. If your a young up and coming HC you could spring board to an NFL gig possibly
 
Any coach who decides to come here is just trying to make a name for himself guys, this football program has been dead for almost 20 years now
 
When you ask yourself this question you have to look at it objectively and completely separate your love for UM from the question.
Look at it as if you were an stablished coach with no emotional attachment to UM....if you were considering taking this job there are things you would need to consider.
Is the financial support I need to be successful there?
Can I hire the staff I need?
Can I hire the support staff I need?
Is the financial support for facilities there?
The answer I think is that we are in the middle of the pack as far as being an attractive job.

247 Sports did an evaluation of the top 25 Football Head Coaching jobs and in their evaluation Miami came in at #14, with FSU $15 and Oregon #16. High profile brand in a hot recruiting area.

However .. IF the UM BOT can demonstrate .. via the hiring of a new high power AD .. that the commitment and money is there for a head coach ($6 million a year level +), money for quality staff to live in a high cost of living city, financial support for an elite recruiting and "analyst" staff, then UM might very well be way above "middle of the pack". That is what we are waiting to find out. Should know a lot more in the next 60 days.

I don't disagree with that....but knowing how this administration works that is one of those "believe it when I see it" type of things. The change you describe would take a lot of work and commitment. One thing that has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt if that when it comes to athletics this administration is incredibly lazy and incompetent.
 
Primary reason top coaches will not come here is the Admin.

The lack of total commitment is not lost on all of college football. They don’t care about fans or if we have a few good players. Despite what some believe Miami fans are tame compared other fans like Texas or the SEC. The Admin is the primary detriment and this includes a lack of willingness to pay top dollar.

Largely, P5 coaches are not coming here now, not that we shouldn’t try. Their current job is probably better. But that leaves a ton of decent coaches that are either out of work or in a lower P5 team that would come. And then every other coach where this job would be a step up would gladly come.

All is not lost with a good hire or multiple hires, as it will probably take 4-5 years of 10-win seasons and multiple bowl wins to just start closing the gap on recruiting with the elite programs.

There are so many decent coaches out there and this program can be turned around but that is not going to happen without a serious commitment from the Admin….

which includes and starts with firing the current coach.

Win immediately means beat shltty teams with significantly less talent. Nobody here is expecting a championship in year 1. Just beat the teams you outtalent.
