Is Keyshawn Smith our best WR

He should have started last year. He's definitely better than Pope and Wiggins, not debatable. It's hard to say if he's the best wr though since the coaches don't give playing time based upon talent at that position. ****, Restrepo might be the best one but we'd never know as he didn't really get a chance.
Restrepo couldn't hold Keyshawn's jockstrap. I get what you're trying to say but to compare Restrepo to Smith is just plain foolishness. I think Smith is going to bust out this year. This kid is going to be special. The 1st time he takes a tunnel screen for a 70 yard house call then everyone will see. He can score on a deep post or a straight 9 route just as well as he can take a jet sweep or a reverse to the paint.

Posters ignore information in an effort to support their agendas.

A respected poster, and big fan of Smith, has commented on important elements of being a WR that Smith needs to work on.

Payton has been injured.

Coaches aren’t perfect. Some are terrible. But there is likely less a conspiracy here than some are making it out to be.

Unless of course Cooney is holding a gun to your head or your biased in a given direction...

In the bowl game Pope had a key drop. Wiggins had 2 key drops. I’m not debating that at all. As to why the other kids didn’t surpass them again you have to factor in EVERYTHING. Including the fact last szn was not a normal year for a young guy to develop

as for the system change and your indication that everyone had to go through it so it should be even playing field. That’s a not entirely true given the fact if you’ve been in a college program/system there no doubt your a step ahead of a first year guy. That’s just reality. Freshman go through a adjustment period on and off the field. And like I said before now factor in the Covid **** and for a coach your going to play the guys who are picking up things faster. We had the same argument on cis as to why Pope wasn’t playing more his Freshman year too. **** even for the bowl prep it wasn’t the same as previous years. I truly wonder how many full practices we were able to have last season

It is not about a TF surpassing anyone. It is about setting a standard and accountability. Like you, I heard Likens say competition was open leading up to that game. Then I watched the starters (minus Harley) fall flat on their faces. And Likens kept rolling them out there the rest of the game notwithstanding the fact Pope and Wiggins weren't doing their jobs. Whatever the reason, that is cause for concern.

On the system change, yes, I understand COVID. And yes, a freshman has a bunch of other areas where they are behind. They should be physically behind, likely aren't as technically sound, and are just straight up adjusting to college life. I get that. My point was that as far as picking up a new offense, when the offensive scheme changes in the offseason, that's about as even as it is going to get between a TF and upperclassmen picking up a system.

Oh **** he burnt Ivey on a deep ball!? Got to be the best receiver in college ball period! So does King overthrow him by 15 yards or under throw by 10?
So what exactly was dumb about my post? The YouTube video starts off hyping him for beating Ivey on a deep ball. Just about any P5 WR in the country can pull that off. Then I asked a perfectly legit question in does King overthrow him by 15 on a deep ball or under throw by 10? I’m taking the over by 15. I liked what I saw in Smith last season in the very limited time that he was on the field and he should definitely be in the rotation but I’m not anywhere near ready to crown him as our best WR. Harley owns that title until proven otherwise.

+100

People should focus more on why the younger receivers are not ready to receive reps than on Wiggins and Pope. If Wiggins or Pope are starting against Bama then either they improved significantly (unlikely but possible) or we have deeper issues at the WR position.
Or coaches not playing the best guys. Happens man. Coaches are human they have favorite players and they sometimes feel they can trust older guys. Some people have children they favor over others, managers have workers they favor over others, teachers have students they favor over others ect.. it’s human nature and coaches are no different.

This **** always degenerates into goofballs playing the coach infallibility card. They claim those of us who think the coaches made mistakes by playing Plop and Wimpins 70+ plays per game and never playing a guy who flashed every time he did play (Key) are somehow claiming the coaches are involved in a conspiracy to lose their jobs by intentionally playing bad player over good players.

That’s got NOTHING to do with it for the 40000th time, gloids. Coaches make these mistakes all the time, and it’s got nothing to do with stupid conspiracies to sabotage their own jobs.

I think Redding can be compared to young Leonard Hankerson, needs to just be more consistent and he could dominate. His ceiling maybe KJ Osborn as well if he can get it together

Hankerson was better than Osborn here. Post is written like you feel differently since Osborn is the potential ceiling? Speed, strength, and jumping wise him and Osborn line up, but Redding has a nice 2-3 inches on him, which can hopefully give us a presence we've been missing on the outside. Hankerson is a good comparison speed, size and strength wise. Redding has all those attributes and can jump a little bit higher too although Hankerson's 4.43 40 may be .05 or .1 faster than Redding can ever reach.

We have not had many WRs with Redding traits in the past ten years. Hankerson is good comparison - no others come to mind.

What’s this myth that he flashed last year? He had 2 catches. He will be a nice player but he didn’t ball out like that.

He did not ball out. He did flash the ability to be a smooth route runner who can make adjustments while moving. It was brief but not imaginary.

Very glad Coach Diaz was ready to make a move with Coach Field's evaluation.

New article on Keyshawn Smith with two NFL WRs calling him special

Interesting notes on Keyshawn. His dad played in the MLB for two seasons. His HS head coach and offensive coordinator are both former NFL WRs.

And it was noticeable that when he was in the game he was open.
Only to us on CIS. The coaches clearly didn't see it.

I saw WR1 written all over this kid. Andre Johnson like catchability and the way he runs he's a nightmare for a DB. AJ IS THE CEILING LETS ******* GO

I can’t link it cause I don’t know how but I saw a post on Instagram of Keyshawn making a great downfield catch. Posted on canes corner insta story. Anyone know if it is from this spring? TVD was the passer also

I'm not ready to put it all on the coaches as it was a weird year and he had no real spring practice and also got covid, but yeah, he should've been given more chances.

Redding is 10 times the prospect KJ was.Dude is 6-1,close to 200 lbs with 4.4 speed and a 40+ vertical. We saw against FSU last year what he can be here.
Not hating on him but what did he exactly do against FSU that can show you what he can be here? He had 2 catches for 13 yards and a TD where he wasnt covered. I hope he balls this year but we got to stop hyping up guys that havent proven anything.

Sometimes a drop is less destructive than running a wrong route or missing a block.

Coaches have routinely said a lack of practice time and COVID hindered the development of a lot of the young guys at WR. It was obvious at LB too where Flagg had Jennings with one foot out the door early then the COVID **** hit the fan.

I know cis loves a good conspiracy theory, like the whole cooney thing, but sometimes the logical answer is the answer.

Yes exactly and remember hank was a body catcher for years but he worked hard and become a monster later in his career hoping the same for Redding!

I’ll mention it one more time for the people in the back. The wide receiver rotation is determined by the wide receiver coach. He said it in an interview a few weeks back. He did not trust enough guys to run a 6 man rotation at WR last year. Make of that what you will but considering he just got hired last season, he doesn’t have some weird favoritism ties to any of the guys on the roster. Also, there’s technically three different WR positions in this offense. The x, y and z. Most guys only know/play one position. If Pope and Wiggins were getting a majority of the snaps at x and z, that means that the backups at those two spots either didn’t know their roles or were actually dropping more balls than the guys ahead of them. Also consider the fact that Redding, a redshirt freshman, was the only reserve receiver who wasn’t a true freshman last year. Well, Marshal Few was a junior but I’m talking about scholarship guys. Payton, Smith, Restrepo and Worsham were all true freshmen who not only didn’t have any spring but also had Covid issues. Let’s remember a positive covid test didn’t just mean you can’t play, it means you can’t practice or workout with the team either. So, I can understand why Rob Likens wasn’t exactly comfortable with rolling out a bunch of unprepared true freshmen who had limited practice time for long stretches of games. It’s not PlayStation where every receiver automatically lines up in the right spot and runs the correct route for every play call. You start racking up illegal procedure penalties because a guy doesn’t have his foot on the line of scrimmage or you get costly turnovers because a guy runs the wrong way on an option route and the pass gets intercepted, then the fans start to notice that experience matters.
Redding was a TF last year.

He was class of 2020 with Key Smith, Restrepo & Daz.
