is anyone else uncomfortably confident?

i keep telling myself, "they won 15 games" ... in a row ...

but styles make fights and they have a style that we match up with awfully well ... they lack the size needed on their defensive line ... they have good skill positions, not game changing ... their linebackers are active but smaller, which plays into the hands of our double team block scheme ...

then there's mendoza ... he's the heisman, overall #1 pick ... but for some reason i'm confident we can "contain" him ... it's crazy
I agree. Someone on CIS did an analysis of Mendozas progressions and his tapping of the football before throwing. What a Tell. In addition Meddoza is 20% / 0.52 seconds slower than the Ole Miss QB.

I was thinking about it and I totally agree - that is significant! Even his OC "hurrying him up" to a degree, especially if the game is close, they can't effectively go with a completely different approach against an elite and violent D like ours. They can change some, but it's not like they will 100% have him throwing the ball under 2.5 seconds every throw because that's not realistic.

We WILL get to him and my guess is that we'll start getting to him early and often. Then, doubt starts to creep in the mind...

His thrown average was shown to be 3.02

Iowa sacked him twice. Ped State sacked him 3 times. Ohio State sacked him 3 times.

They scored a combined 57 points in those 3 games.

If we can cover progression #1 our Monsters will feed when he is on progression #2

Maybe I’m underestimating them because it’s Indiana, but truthfully I would be much less confident if we were playing Ohio State. We vastly out talent IU in the “jimmy’s and Joe’s” dept. their advantage is being exceptionally disciplined. But if Miami plays a clean game (I think we will), our athletes are better than their athletes.
I'm very thankful that we played sloppy against Ole Miss and almost lost that game. Had we blown them out, I'd imagine a level of complacency going into this game. IU is going to be tough, but at least the coaches have film they can go and correct before the natty.

We roll 69-0

I was more worried about the first three opponents. But, I know I’m overlooking something because a bunch of people who know way more than me love Indiana in this game.

Don't worry, you're doing fine.

The "experts" in Texas thought it was a good idea to hole up in the Alamo.

The Gauls thought it was a good idea to hole up in Alesia, and the Persians thought it good to take Greece - and even Sparta.

Major Patrick Ferguson thought it would go his way on King's Mountain - stating "Here is a place God Almighty can't drive us from." Sure enough, he's still on that mountain.

Even experts make mistaken assumptions - which is why we have actual horse races.

Listening to the film guys on the CIS pod predict we will be able to run it at a 5 ypc average. Got me wet.

I had some sensations I can't describe when he said #67 on their OL can be had.......

Where's the after-party?

Wait, wait. Is this the thread?

But seriously. I'm not extremely over confident but I think this will be another Cane classic. I respect IU and the season that they have had. It speaks for itself.

  • UM has learned how to win in close situations. "You got to lose to know how to win." (Aerosmith!)
  • UM has won in different ways all year and especially in the playoffs.
  • UM has beat the best of their side of the bracket and that side was so much better that IU's side.
  • UM has the trench advantage. IU is a great team but I don't see their lines being able to match up with UM's lines.
  • UM had learned how to play clean football until the Ole Miss flu game. If they can be disciplined, UM will win.
I look for another OSU-type game but without J. Smith on the field. Canes by 13!

I am. I have been for all three playoff games. I was for Notre Dame. And we showed in all four of those games how superior we were. However, we also had plenty of spots in those games where we keep teams around, good teams, but we contributed to keeping them around. That cannot happen with this game.

Confident we win. Our physicality and bigger lines is the difference. Fletcher and Brown will feast. Mendoza with one, maybe two picks. CANES! 🙌🏼

Indiana rush offense vs Iowa/PSU/Oregon(regular szn)/Ohio St

Combined 143 for 450 (3.15 per carry)

Now they face the 5th ranked rush defense in the nation, who already shut down J. Love, lacy, Ohio State

I don't think they can run on us and I don't know if Mendoza can beat us without a run game to lean on. Maybe he proves me wrong. I don't think so.
