Is anyone concerned about DE group going foward?

I feel Like the guy who’s impressed me the most behind Philips, roche is probably cam Williams.

not sure what to make of harvey yet (not going to lie kind of have been disappointed) and I’ve wanted to see chantz Williams play more this year but he played sparingly in games .

And i think we signed an okay de class in 2021 cycle but I’m interested to see how this ultimately play out next year with Phillips and roche gone. I’m not necessarily concerned just trying to think who could possibly make that jump for next season out of the group on the roster right now

Fully concerned. Enough to the point that we should not pencil in anyone to start.

Exhaust all resources and tricks. IE. Try Elijah and Blissett exclusively at DE in spring.

We have to dig deep.

I will be watching this closely in the bowl game. Talent is there, production is not yet.

I have high hopes for guys like Harvey, Chantz and Q

Definitely need to bring in an impact transfer. The talent level seems good, but not sure we have anything elite yet. Could definitely change over the offseason but DE is a premier position where we need to look at bringing in elite transfers until we have a roster full of them.

@brock

You touched a little on it, but I'm scared Chantz is not a D1 athlete. He's not carrying his weight all that well.

Rooting for the guy to prove me wrong.

Edit: He's D1! Geeze.

What I mean to say is for being a guy who is considered twitchy and more of a pass rusher, he's not exactly built like Jafari Harvey. Or anything close in that regard.

You think chantz Williams who had one of the best athletic profiles in the country at end in last recruiting class isn’t a d1 athlete? I dont Agree with that assertion , he just didn’t play much as he was the 5th dend behind the top 4 guys. Chantz is gifted imo

Not worried about the talent. But depth is a concern. If we go portal they'll need to be elite to get the kind of PT that Roche got this year.

Miami sucks at preparing underclassmen to take over. They get minimal game reps all season and then are pushed into huge roles they have no true game experience with. This roster management along with players leaving early is killing things

The obvious answer is that when you lose the top 2 DEs in the nation to the draft, it's only logical to expect regression.

A more Miami specific answer, IMO, depends on whether there is a scheme change this offseason. No matter who the DEs are, if we continue to play the same system, they will get their TFLs and sacks. But without the length of a GR15, or the athletic ability and size of a Phillips, the replacements might be a significant downgrade.

Can they be as good/productive as, say, Roche? Probably. Is that good enough to elevate our defense to the next level? Almost certainly not.
