Interesting Takes on the Final 2023 Recruiting Rankings

Marios first year so anywhere in the top 10 and i am very happy, then if we win 10+ next year i would hope for top 5.

I always said with the NIL and Mario will shoot us up around the second tier consistently. The UGA’s, Bama’s and Osu’s will always hover around tier one especially with how the system is set up.

@Cribby UGA wasn't recruiting at this level until recently. What makes you think that there cannot be any movement between the tiers, both up and down? If Miami wins AND keeps the current institutional commitment backing the program, there is no reason it cannot ascend to the top tier. Miami has numerous structural advantages over Athens, Columbus, and Tuscaloosa. The same ones that any big city have over a small town. On top of it, Miami (and the state of Florida) are booming and attracting a ton of people. Kids would want to come (or stay) here for the same reasons everyone else is moving to Florida. We just needed to show the commitment to football that clearly was lacking before. By the way, I could see USC also move into that top tier, as it has many of the same advantages (except for some of the tax/quality of life issues that plague it given their political leadership).

Because I know what they’re doing there and what Kirby brought from Bama. Those schools have an advantage and do things we can’t do.

You're failing to consider the network effects from simply having more people, more nodes of contact. I don't think there's a group of boosters anywhere (not Alabama, TAMU, OSU, etc.) that can match the free market opportunities of a winning program in a big and vibrant city. For example, if Miami were to win as much as Bama, Miami players would make probably significantly more money from NIL simply because they would have more exposure, views, etc. We see this play out all the time in professional sports. Worse players from bigger markets (e.g., NY Giants, NY Jets) make more from endorsements than better players in smaller markets. I would venture to say that Mahomes would make more money, and be better known around the world, if he played in LA, Miami, or NYC than in Kansas City.

Some of you are too dense to ever grasp a concept. NIL is coool and all but here is a job for mom and dad. Daycare paid for siblings and o yea we provided somewhere for you to live. We'll throw in weekly/monthly stipends too.

Miami has to win like Bama before we have that conversation. The way things are currently being done and where the programs are is how I’m judging things. If we win at a high level it obviously changes things.

I agree with your statement, but if there is 1 team that's capable of breaking into that top tier of recruiting classes its Miami, based solely on being home to many of the nations top recruits...Basically if we will they will come.

We are in complete agreement there. It cannot be the same product we have put on the field over the last 15 years. But I would venture to say that programs like Miami and USC only need to make the playoffs with enough consistency to keep them in the national spotlight to match or exceed Bama's NIL exposure capabilities, just like Notre Dame does.

It's amazing where the class is right now. I know Mario has the resume to show kids but right now all he can do is sell what way he wants the train to go. Have a helluva season so he can show where the train is going.. I believe more high end kids will hop on board. Get the train rolling, explode the U brand, and top 5 year in year out is the future. You can't just talk about playing with the big boys, you gotta show you can.

I understand what your saying completely, but unfortunately if's and potential is all we can go on for Miami due to our unfortunate past 15 year run. If Mario continues to recruit as he has and the product on the field is solid we could potentially crack the top tier.

Perhaps being dismissive of NIL as "coool and all "is the dense response here and shows your lack of vision. "skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been."

NIL is nothing less than the beginning of the professionalization of college sports. Neither Alabama nor Georgia bagmen can compete with the free market. That antiquated, "old school", piecemeal, largely southern way of operating, will become less relevant over time because individual boosters cannot compete with corporations. It will not happen overnight, certainly. But over time, it is an irresistible and irreversible tide.

You are right and it was a thread on 2023, but the other poster and I went on a slight offramp about mobility between the recruiting tiers. I think this is why so many of these southern schools are worried, and trying to nip this in the bud by preventing Miami from joining the SEC, for example. (Listen to Manny Navarro's podcast yesterday where the Gator beat writer admitted that Florida would not want UM in the SEC). Good (or great) Miami and USC teams are a problem for the current southern power structure in college football.
