interesting take on the offensive line after week 1 of camp

Good breakdown. Id move 3 above 2 because center is already wrapped up, ryan has been here learning this offense from a center perspective longer than anyone by far. I agree hopefully max can overtake that and become the guy there but id imagine ryan is just way ahead with all the calls. With surrounding inexperience we will need a vet at center the most

Someone mentioned it earlier but i can see a Rivers/mccoy 2024 type situation at lt/lg with cantwell/samson. That way you can manage cantwell reps at ot and get him up to speed while having a safety net at left tackle and probably our best guard rotating there in samson. I also agree, RG should be max job to lose. Congdon could possibly be the lg, i think that’s where the smoke about him being ahead of cantwell is coming from

The competition definitely should start from outside, i think that’s your overall point here and i agree because we’re replacing our two best olineman there.
Thats not the process though because if it came down to it and Rodriguez got hurt and SJ still wasn't snapping well I'd 100% prioritize Buchanan at Center rather than at Guard, even if he officially was our starting guard. Same way I'd prioritize Cantwell moving to Tackle if one of Samson/McCoy got hurt.
I fully view who is playing guard as the final step, with OT and Center being the priorities. This applies in the event of an injury occurs regardless who the personnel specifically is.

Ah i understand. I think i agree with this if we’re just mapping out the full depth chart but for who is starting right now? Im looking at is as ryan has it locked up and his backup may be samson/mccoy like rivers was the backup center in 2024

I think they prioritize knowing the calls as much as anything there so it will most likely be a vet

Who plays the most snaps in the WR room?

This guy named Baby Jesus.

Who plays the nickel and do multiple kids get looks in games?

Depends on the down and distance, but I expect Bryce will get a lot of the action early.

Do we see any of the young backers in the first half of the FBS games?

Do we have a choice? Someone is going to have to play behind the first two.

Does Dunnigan get in when the games are still somewhat in doubt?

Yes.

Who is the first one off the bench at DT?

Don't think this one is up for debate. It'll be Carter, unless you mean pass rush packages.

Where does Blount play the most?

Would be shocked if it's not SSDE.

On the first 3rd and long against Stanford, what’s the NASCAR package look like?

Wilson, Lightfoot, Moten or Scott, Blount.

When we go dime, who are the other 2 corners besides OJ? Is Brown ahead of EOC?

Lucas and Damari (if healthy), if not EO.

Let me know if you're curious about anything else. I'll be here all night.

Sorry, meant the breakdown in the WR room. Not #1
That’ll obviously be Mali. I’m confident Barkate will play just as many, or close. I’m more curious as to who plays the X. I think we have 6 kids who will probe through camp they deserve reps with Mensah in games. Mali, Barkate, Upshaw, Moore, Vaughn, and Jacobs. Will we really play 6 kids? We never have, but we’ve never had this depth, either. And is it only those 6? And in reality, when I say 6, Mali is playing 90%+ percent of the snaps. Barkate is playing 85%+. So are they gonna rotate 4 kids at X? So many good players to rotate through snaps, I’m fascinated how they do this.
It’s just not enough reps for everybody. Young guys like wingo just will have to tough it out for the most part year 1. I don’t see it being enough reps to play 6 guys consistently. Vaughn is a guy who is good at contested catches so he can be used in red zone packages and Jacobs is a deep threat so you can draw up some shots for him but I think upshaw/moore will split the reps as that 3rd guy

McCoy at T is a scary thought.

He was 50% of the reason Beck underthrew the ball on the last INT. Got embarrassed off the snap and was in Beck's face.
Yea obviously Mario and mirabal know better than me but I think the best bet would be Lt-Samson, LG- max -or- sj -or- congden, C- Rodriguez, Rg- Mccoy, congden, RT-Cantwell, Mccoy

Not coming at you. I just keep seeing everyone do this

If mccoy is at guard again why are we moving him from LG to RG? Especially since max was already a backup at RG? If mccoy isn’t the RT why would he not continue to start at LG like he has the last few years

You want to have older guys beside the young guys. You wouldn’t want 1 side be the vets and then the right side freshmen. That way you would have an older guy like McCoy beside cantwell and at LG you they would be between Samson and rodriguez.
And another reason for me is McCoy wasn’t that good at pass pro inside so I have questions about how he would hold up vs more explosive guys at tackle

I get that, experience spread around could be good but i think moving max from rg and mccoy from lg would be counterproductive to the leaps we need them to take. But we’ll see

How and it’s still at guard just different sides? And they all are playing at different positions in camp. On top of that max isn’t a lock to start

Different sides often means different footwork. Better question for the OL guys on here, but "switching sides" in other positions has legitimate friction in real life. Beyond that, once a player is in a particular spot and has shown X at a particular spot, the output becomes more predictable and reliable. It looks like they're dead set on Mccoy at RT and I pray to everything it works out, so the LG/RG discussion may be moot.

Agreed, I dont get into because most guys just follow the ball and dont rewatch and pff number on pass pro also show but same thing happened multiple times in last couple season he has played. If he is getting blown by DTs, how will he handle speed rush of DEs, same thing happened on 3rd INT against Louisville, see LG below, he is very leaky on pass pro and there are examples

Got beat on the indiana pick too. We need a leap from him

Yea I did it like that because they all are playing different positions right now in camp. On top of that McCoy wasn’t that good in pass pro at G so how will he handle having to block more explosive guys at Rt. Then another question is how would the interior look with all the young guys at guard if Samson is at LT

You know better than most I go off plays and I re-watch every single game, sometimes multiple times, because I guess it's just a stupid hobby. If my comments about his pass pro bother some, I don't know what to say. It's what I've watched during or after the games. I don't go off camp reports or PFF scores because I have no idea how they judge things (actually, what's his PFF pass pro score?).

All I can say is what you just showed there is not a random play. He's been occasionally reachy and off balance in pass pro throughout the last couple years. Sure, "everyone is sometimes." But, it has stood out. Compare to Samson last year in similar plays in pass pro, and you'll see a gigantic difference in how he sets, his balance and recovery. Again, I'm extremely far from any technical expertise for OL. Never played it and other than knowing some basic rules of what they look for and watching them as keys, I couldn't tell you the little nuances of their games. I feel like if you can't teach someone something, you don't know well it enough to make solid conclusions beyond plain observations, and that's where I stand with OL.

So, plainly, until we see it, I wonder about his transition to RT.

Probably better as a direct question for the handful of dudes I generally look to for OL opinions: @San Amaro Dr, @gogeta4, @hollyhood27, @Lance Roffers.

What do you all expect from Mccoy's transition to RT? On DUO and many running plays, he should be fine. Out on an island on pass situations, what should we look for to note if the transition from LG to RT is in trouble?

That’s how I read it as well. Interesting indeed.

I haven’t seen Congdon take one single snap. When he committed, my initial thought was “decent project prospect.” He was much lighter and from small town Ohio. Literally from that moment til today, every single time I hear his name mentioned, it’s about his weight gain, his work ethic, his bend, and so on. If 60% of it is true, we have a monster on our hands. I can’t wait to actually see him taking snaps.
I've inferred from other articles that Joel Ervin may have been ahead of both had he not sat out Spring Practice.

Ervin looks like a more athletic Anez Cooper. They love him and I can see why the coaches do.
