That’s how I read it as well. Interesting indeed.

I haven’t seen Congdon take one single snap. When he committed, my initial thought was “decent project prospect.” He was much lighter and from small town Ohio. Literally from that moment til today, every single time I hear his name mentioned, it’s about his weight gain, his work ethic, his bend, and so on. If 60% of it is true, we have a monster on our hands. I can’t wait to actually see him taking snaps.

Typically who would you trust for OL prospect production: Ohio or Missouri?

They’re both massive dudes. If they rotate with each other at left guard between Okunlola and Rodriguez that’s not a bad option to get them starter-ready.

If you told me both prospects were “the same,” of course I would pick Ohio every single time. However, Cantwell was #1 OT and Congdon was a middle of the road 4 star. More than that though, I never saw videos of Congdon pushing 500 lbs off his chest or doing 225 for reps that would be near the top of the combine.
Also, when I think of Ohio HS football, I think Cleveland, Cincy, C’bus and Akron/Canton. Congdon is from Tusc County which is pretty rural. Just dumping my thoughts out here…

What did Coach Kilmer say, “I don’t give a d- about your muscles” ??

Go look at the 225 queens from the combine. Most never play a meaningful down in the league. Bench max? Who cares. If he’s great at pushing 500# flat on his back on the field he’s getting pancaked a lot.

Field events? They’re ok. But wrestling? A different animal and closer to football than throwing a shot. And I’ve S&C coached throwers.
 
Cantwell, Irvin, congdon are legit creatures. This team is very locked into 1-0 mentality. But I also think we have to be thinking about whooping everyone’s *** so the young guys can play and the older guys / starters can stay fresh. I draw a parallel to OSU when they won it all. They really peaked at the right time and were very fresh. In the post season.

Are you looking for an argument? I don’t get what and why you’re pushing back on what I wrote. I said nothing that is factually untrue. I mentioned what was reported. Period.

I’ve actually been saying that I’m incredibly impressed at what Congdon is doing thus far, but I didn’t spell it out exactly that way. What did I write that offended you to the point where you went on that last rant? Are you from Ohio or are you related to Congdon? Considering we’ve had a week of practices thus far, still haven’t seen any snaps and we don’t even know who the starters are, I don’t get what you’re trying to do here.

You literally came at me with a quote from a FICTIONAL head coach. This might be one of the dumber takes I’ve read on CiS.

Having Samson, McCoy and Rodriguez penciled in as starters at their respective positions is good. They have the most experience and should be good in Week 1.

Allows the two guard spots to grow in their role at an easier trajectory.
 
Everyone remembers the CFP where we were bullying the best DLs in the country up front. They don’t remember a year ago early camp where every player outside of CeCe and Cooper was raked over the coals. People were hoping Minaya could step in as our starting left guard and SJ could be our starting C by the end of the season … we’re going to be fine.

It’s not strange. All those things could happen - Cantwell is the starting LT in the spring and now he “appears” to may be not be a starter at tackle and he could be an all ACC performer by mid year or year end.

My guess on what’s happening - he was thrust into LT in the spring to test him and because we had no suitable person at that spot so it was really the only option. From what I gathered In the spring, Cantwell did okay all things considered but struggled with speed rushes.

Now, Samson is healthy and he is better at LT. so, next suitable position is LG for Cantwell given that Congdon played RG the entire spring and handled it decently. Cantwell is adjusting a bit to guard, I’m sure, but I fully expect him to at worst be rotational with buchanon and at best, be the starting LG.

Personally, I like the Samson/cantwell/RR/congdon/mccoy line. Two rookies surrounded by vets on each side. Next year, I expect Cantwell to slide back out to LT (or RT).

Especially full pad practice havent taken place and the 2 important scrimmages are still on horizon
 
IMO Ideal OLine features Buchanan rotating at Guard and Center with Congdon and Rodriguez.

LT: Okunlola / Cantwell / Ervin / Hawks
LG: Buchanan Rotating with Congdon / Meriweather / Minaya
C: Rodriguez Rotating with Buchanan / SJ / Woodrow
RG: McCoy / Congdon / Meriweather /
RT: Cantwell / McCoy / Wilkerson /

Actual likely Oline features Buchanan and Congdon rotating with eachother all season exactly like how McCoy/Okunlola were used last season. Maybe it's a 3 man rotation at guard between Cantwell, Buchanan, and Congdon though. Okunlola/McCoy/Rodriguez are locked in starters. Cantwell is almost certainly a starter: Who plays what is certainly up for battle....

Id bet our Lineup against Stanford is:
LT: Okunlola / Cantwell / Ervin / Hawks
LG: Cantwell with Buchanan rotating / Meriweather / Minaya
C: Rodriguez / SJ / Buchanan
RG: Buchanan with Congdon rotating / Meriweather
RT: McCoy / Cantwell / Wilkerson

At the start of blowouts I wonder if they would just leave Congdon/Buchanan/Cantwell in (though with Cantwell to LT). Or if they'd be considered too much "starters" and thus also take them out..... I'd personally bet Congdon plays the least starting snaps among those 3 (beacuse i'd have Cantwell and Buchanan as play 1 starters), so Congdon likely remains in at minimum. If the other 2 were taken out the OLine during blowouts likely becomes:
LT: Ervin / Hawks
LG: Meriweather / Pickett
C: SJ /(Woodrow/Sparks not ready to contribute imo)
RG: Congdon / Minaya
RT: Wilkerson

Not gonna play the “told you so” game but Cantwell was always a long ways off. I commented this a bunch when he was being recruited (same as the kid that went to USC) and a few people were bold enough to agree

His ceiling is almost unmatchable though it’s actually encouraging to me he’s already in the mix. Might be some growing pains but I think he’s ahead of schedule still

Don’t disagree. Staff threw him in at LT during fall because Samson was out, have to believe the plan was always for him move outside. But Cantwell didn’t look out of place, now we have Samson back and he’s getting reps at guard and tackle. We have some crazy young talent on the OL.

I could just be biased because I’ve always felt Samson was an ideal LT once he had enough S&C

Cantwell looked a bit out of place at times in high school but even a create a player in NCAA you can’t really make someone like him. Whenever he takes a starting spot he won’t ever leave the field again
