Interesting objective slant on team/bowl

All those analytics told me was what we all already knew - we did things to lose games that by all rights we should have won. That's what poorly coached teams tend to do.

Now...credit for winning the last 2 games, but those were games that we should have won...so we bucked the trend started at UVA and culminating at GT.

Wisky is 7-5, just like us - as was most of the Coastal. Here's my way of thinking...if we play more like we did against VT/Pitt, and less like we did against UVA/BC/Duke/GT, then we have a shot to win. Here's the bad news: at the most important position on the field, we're playing Rosier. Rosier, out of those games, played the most against UVA/BC/Duke...all losses where we struggled mightily offensively. So, we're playing a QB that struggled in those games against teams with similar records to Wisky. Not a good sign.

Thankfully (or maybe not so, if you want richt fired) Wisky is a much bigger dumpster fire and their backup QB is probably worse than Rosier and the team around him is much worse than Rosier’s. If the kids are motivated to play, which they should be considering the season and losing to this same team a year ago, Miami should get after these kids pretty good.

But yes, of course, Rosier scares me a lot more than Perry does.

Also do need to upgrade the OL, but it wasn’t the unmitigated disaster that the casual fan thinks it was as I mentioned above. Not having 82 was a killer. Playing true freshmen TEs is not conducive to Top 5 type success. There are holes, and I know you agree. Just saying put a competent QB on this team and don’t have him Snapchat himself smashing chicks from behind and pouring money on himself...i.e. be a hint of leader, and there’s a ton less vitrol around here. I know what the goal is here always, and we’re not close, but we’re 1 player away from being a lot happier fan base than the current situation.

Agreed again. You see good QB play on the college level mask less than elite o-line play all the time. Obviously improving the line play is issue 1a with us but we're on the same page with the QB stuff. And that's still not being an apologist for the coaching either. They should've developed a QB by this point and not have that room be in perpetual immaturity related chaos.

Yep. Richt deserves 100.0% of the blame, and there’s a lot to blame here. A competent OC gets more out of these kids than he did. He was awful this year. But it is somewhat of a chicken salad/chicken **** situation here. He needs to find an OC who can run a modern system ASAP and they together need to find and develop a QB who can both complete a forward pass AND not act like a ******* idiot.

I read an article that described Jack Coan as a "game manager at QB". My first thought directly after that was that we would eat him up on D, especially if he tries to make throws that he simply can't/shouldn't make. We could easily have multiple INTs. However...we've got to stop Wisky on the ground first. Taylor's a **** good back, and Wisky's OL is pretty good. The DL has to have a performance like the one we had against Pitt to make that happen. Without Willis, that's gonna be a tall order.

I still have no confidence in our offense (especially thru the air) whatsoever. The only thing I like that we've done well on offense lately is run the football. We almost put up 300 yards on the ground against Pitt, lots of explosive runs from Dallas/Homer/Davis. There comes a time where 12 will have to put the ball in the air though, and Richt will have to make the right playcall - and those are both things I have next to no confidence in right now.

EDIT - I will say the only thing in the passing game I've seen lately that I like is running the RB out on the wheel route to the boundary. We've not hit it as often as it has been open, but when we have - it's gone for BIG yardage. I think that has to be in the gameplan, and Rosier had better be ready to make that throw.

well the guy said we'd roll Wisky, man i dont know about that, not only have not rolled anybody in a minute, Wisky has given us fits

At the risk of sounding too optimistic (because I'm not, esp. w/Rosier at QB), we "rolled" VT and Pitt both. Those games were dominant performances on D and in the running game.

Can we do the same against Wisky? Doubtful, but we'll see tomorrow night.

OL wasn’t nearly as bad as people made it out to be. Wasn’t good, but if you want to see a turnstile OL, watch an FSU game. People just pile on when they don’t see success. The fact is very, very few people can correctly evaluate offensive linemen. They don’t get a pass either and again i said this wasn’t a NC team or anywhere close, but a competent QB masks a ton of problems, OL included. I don’t remember coming out of a game all year and saying, “Miami lost that game because they couldn’t protect the QB”.

I do remember several times saying, “Miami lost that game because the QB is supremely undertalented, unprepared, inaccurate, and clueless.”
Dude our QBs were constantly running for their life. Our OL is atrocious

next time I meet some new strange I’m gonna introduce myself as Thor. A bunch of creative ways to answer if she asks why.
Fugg it. I’m changing my name.

Good post. Coan is pretty bad. And Hornibrook literally played the best game of his life against Miami last year. Easily. That’s not hyperbole. And it wasn’t due to Miami’s ineptitude. He just fit balls into places that he normally doesn’t and their WRs made contented catches. They haven’t replicated that since, and the got SMOKED by Minnesota in their last game. I’m not saying bet the farm on Miami, as we all know we have our own issues. But when you really look at both teams you can see why an impartial observer could expect a Miami win and cover.

I believe it's 1a and a far away 1b. Also sacks allowed doesn't show hurries, pressures, etc. It was constant

As I said earlier, after any of the 5 losses did you come away saying that the reason the team lost was because of the OL? I can’t imagine you did. And if you did, you’d have been wrong. I’ve consistently said they were not good enough. But when, after a loss, you don’t say a position group was the reason for the loss, how is that your biggest problem?

And I can't disagree with you on those merits. That being said...I can't in good conscience agree with you that we could win/cover with Rosier at QB.

It's weird...that's why while this bowl game is a matchup of 2 struggling teams, that it might be the most interesting matchup we see. Either team could come out and blow the other out. Or it could be a pillow fight of epic proportions ending in a 9-6 FG contest.

Won’t argue with you, nor would I if someone wanted to bet Wisky or punt Miami. Was just shining light on the article and saying that I’m not sure miami is quite as far away as a lot of people think. Good way to prove that staring us in the face tomorrow.
