Interesting Carson Beck article from David Hale

Well, dont forget Ladd. Its why it was so important to grab a true WR1 through the portal. Beck has his faults but we know that if he has the weapons, he can be very very good. Do we have enough is the question? We really need JoJo or somebody to take that next step.
Think the structure of Dawson's offense can account for this. Just need some combination of Slot/TE to win 1 on 1 matchups consistently. Otherwise, guys will be schemed open. There hasn't been a true "A1" outside guy since Ahmmon. Excluding Restrepo, next closest thing is what? Charleston Rambo or Stacy Coley?

Yeah Bowers had ankle surgery and was out the end of the season. They had rushed him back at one point and then had to re-sit him. If he wasn’t hurt, I guarantee they beat Bama in the SEC Championship.

Edit: to be clear, Bowers missed three regular season games, but the fourth was where they tried playing him but had to re-sit him. He also missed the SEC championship, and playoffs. So he missed everything starting from the UF game, which is Halloween weekend, and on.
Ok ok that brings up another point on Beck him not winning at UGA his interview he said he came down here to win cause he hadnt yet! People forget that fuel to a fire in his comeback this year! Who wants to lose? Im glad hes our QB this year!

Well if you adjust his uniform from Georgia to Miami he goes from cheeks to we fuccin right quick...

Need Beck to be a high end pick up. Shame we did not surround him with a WR1 or more help in that room after losing so much.
Word.

Beck at Athens today and the narrative is, "Carson should have a big bounce season in 2025 leading the charge for another Dawgs run at the crown..."

Yeah, I do think there is a bit of truth to what UGA fans say about him not being all in 100% in it mentally. And it’s no excuse, but I get how he could become frustrated with the situation around him. Add in the culture issues UGA has had, and it may have just not been a good fit, mutually. But I still think he did a good job, and I never once saw him give up in a game. If anything, I saw the opposite. My husband and I always remarked about how he often put himself on the line trying to extend plays with his legs and make first downs when there was nothing there.

Btw, you quoted my previous post before I fixed it, but I corrected “playoffs” to “bowl” for that 2023 season. That was the year they missed the CFB because the lost the SEC ship, but then Beck beat FSU 63-3 in the OB.

Hoping it wasn't coach speak when Dawson mentioned he thought his skill players were more explosive this season than last.

Well his best receiver ran 5.73 at his pro day, so I'd hope so.

Jokes aside, I don't think it was coach speak. The group this year does have more raw athleticism. Horton isn't an elite athlete, obviously X isn't, Sam Brown is a plus athlete but nothing jaw-dropping, Jacolby isn't going to make an NFL roster.

But, those kids were **** good football players. They're smart, they're tough, they understand the offense and had good feel for the game....and most importantly, they caught the football when it was anywhere near them. The kids this year are more explosive, that doesn't mean jack **** on 3rd and 8 in the 4th quarter when you sit in a zone and Beck whistles a fastball at the top of your helmet and you know a Safety is getting ready to stick his helmet into your kidney. Making that catch makes you a football player. Running fast does not.

If the kids we have this year are comparable football players, this offense will be elite again. Because it's got an elite QB and an elite line. But there's plenty of athleticism here. If you ran a straight combine, the 2025 room blows the doors off the 2024 room. But can they play?

I get it too with his personality ive seen that when he plays i know exactly what you and UGA fans mean. To me thats a unknown some people just aren't loud or show passion like that! If anything it shows his composure one of the most dangerous in a good way things in life is staying balanced never getting to mad or to upset. Like i said we'll see. I cant believe i forgot 2023 either jfc that FSU beat down was epic!

Right, part of it is definitely his personality.

Another reason why they criticize him is - in my mind - just ignorance. It’s a large fanbase, but the majority of them aren’t on message boards like you and me, analyzing every single move their team makes. Maybe they put on ESPN, but that garbage just tells them SEC, SEC, SEC, and not much else. And QBs always take the fall when a team is doing worse. So they see UGA 2021/2022 = SHIPS and UGA 2023/2024 = NO SHIPS and they see Beck and the common denominator. He’s an easy fall guy, especially post-Miami transfer.

haha, poor X. Good point, explosiveness doesn't necessarily correlate to "lights on, bullets flying" football catching WR's.

alright **** it.....I'm back

Excited Oh Yeah GIF

There’s a lot of talk about Beck being more in Dawsons system, being more “on time”, more game managing stuff etc

I don’t agree with it. Beck is going to have a ton of freedom to call the shots in this offense just like Cam did. He doesn’t have Cams arm but you don’t bring a guy with that much experience in to just be a robot throwing what Dawson tells him to throw

If they did then they wasted about 3.5 mill on a QB

One of my doctors here in Georgia actually quoted 8 million to me last week as the number he heard we paid Beck. (And this doctor did his neurosurgery residency at UM and worked on the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, so he’s not dumb.)

No offense to your doctor, but my best friend does staffing for doctors, it's almost breathtaking how dumb some of them are. I guess terrifying is probably a more apt word.

But that aside, it doesn't make you dumb to take something you heard and repeat it as fact. But if he had any clue at all about the landscape, he doesn't make that comment. $8M is literally comical.

Hard to forget Ladd, but Bowers opened up the entire offense and we can see it now in the NFL.

I know, my husband and I both cracked up laughing and then set him straight.

He went to Texas undergrad though, so he’s a Longhorn fan. Maybe all that oil money has skewed his sense of reality. 🤣

As an aside, I once worked with a psychologist who did some grad work in the health care field and told me about a study she worked on. Apparently, a staggeringly high number of doctors are on the spectrum, much, much higher than the regular population. So while they are very book smart, many don’t have the best social skills.
