What would this team have to do on the field this season with our schedule, to be considered the best all around Miami Hurricanes team ever fielded? Stats pls.
 
The only stat that would put it in the running with the '01 team is if this team had more first rounders.
 
Any team that wins an ACC title AND a natl title will need to win at least 14 games.
10 regular season
1 ACCCG
3 playoff games

I think any team that goes 16-0 or and then produces multiple 1st team AA this year and at least a handful of 1st round picks in the next 3 years could be considered the GOAT.

Will also have to have a net top 20 in offense and defense (like 5th in offense and 15th in defense or vice versa).

Can’t your argue that football talent in general is greater now a days and spread out over more teams? Meanwhile there’s the same number of first round slots.

I think it would have to be close to be in the conversation but I would use this as the primary stat. # of wins followed by margin of victory and SOS imo.

Win the title and be up there with draft picks in number and quality. And then those draft picks go on to be great NFL players
 
The question goes far beyond 16-0 and a NC
The difference w 01 and ANY college team ever is the talent and production and HoF players in nfl
Tough to duplicate
I will be thrilled w the NC
The rest….let history play out

Do you know the margin of victory and SOS for the 2001 team? I bet not. I don't. But you and I know that CP, Andre Johnson, Dorsey, Gore, McKinnie, KWII, Shockey, Roscoe, Rolle, DJ Williams, Ed Reed, Sean Tay, Buch, Vilma, and Wilfork were on the team. (Good lord, that's a lot to type!). I am bullish on this year's team but not sure there's equivalent NFL talent on this team as there was in 2001. So I still think teams are assessed by the talent not specific stats.
 
If we win another one, it will be the most impressive championship of any Miami team. The playoff gauntlet is like nothing CFB has ever seen. Even with the 2 bad losses, had we beat Indiana, that's the best Miami team of all time for me. Lol

I know the nail biters where they didn't look their best. I think that's something to watch for. No team can be 100% consistent through the season against everyone, especially now with more parity and more games, but can probably still compare the average.

I think there's a lot of NFL talent on this team, and potential first round talent. QB obviously. Toney obviously. But there are others on both sides of the ball.

We may win an NC who knows, but I can almost guarantee the above is not going to happen. Even if we go undefeated, which is rare and hard to do, zero chance we dominate every game and especially every playoff game. But it’s OK to have a positive attitude and be optimistic about the future as long as people don’t turn into whiny ******* at the first sign of trouble.

I didn't say it would. The question was what would it take to put 2026 int he same conversations as 2001.
