Tonight was Kaaya's 27th start, I believe. He should be able to handle the pressure by now.
But I'm also wondering if the wrs were getting separation.
I thought the same...but still doesn't excuse him for 5 over thrown balls...3 which would've been a TD...I'm a Kaaya fan but I hold people accountable...he **** the bed on a bunch of throws this game.
It's a combination of poor OL, receivers who are not as dominant as presumed, and Kaaya needing to reach the next level. Everyone on this site knows that the OL is mediocre and inexperienced. That alone will get in the QB's head, although the OL weakness certainly hasn't slowed Walton. Let's see what Walton does as the competition improves. Then there are the receivers. Coley is the
#1 , but he has only shown flashes of speed and elusiveness along with some injuries. Of course, the former coaching staff is responsible for much of Coley's lack of progress. However, there just is a lack of chemistry between him and Kaaya that makes me wonder if Coley will ever match expectations. Meanwhile, Berrios, who showed some good signs in the spring, has not been a major outlet for Kaaya. Njoko has not picked up from his highlight catches of last year although Herndon has played well. Of all the WRs, Richards has shown the most in the first two games. And then there is Kaaya himself. Talk of this junior being a Heisman candidate was extremely premature. He does not have the athleticism to improvise long gains when the opponent defends the intended play. He needs this entire year to digest Richt's offense and learn how a pocket passer picks apart defenses by finding their weaknesses and checking to the open man.
Speaking of the freshman Richards, his three classmates at LB are reason for optimism. They can be great, but greatness will not be achieved as freshmen. The freshman brought in by Richt, and especially those in the class of 2017, will be the foundation of UM's future success. Right now, this team has holes and lack of depth. Look at FSU or Alabama. Take out their best OL-man or LB, and the replacement is one who could start on most CFB teams. This season is one of rebuilding and redesigning, so 7-5 or 8-6 with a decent bowl victory is something to build optimism for the future. I'm sorry, but 9-10 wins is not going to happen.
