From listening to all the interviews since the Spring, there seems to be a sense of confidence amongst everyone.
These guys seem to be real focused.

Another thing that stands out from the returning defensive players is that they all seem to have the defensive play book down pat.
Everyone says it's a major difference from last year, which leads me to believe that the only one's who had it down last year were the one's who didn't have the athleticism to truly run the defense like AJ and Jimmy Gaines.

There seems to be a seriousness and a cautious optimism brewing from the players and coaches alike.
But I thought this year was different than last year?

:jordan:

Uh, every year is different than the previous year.

You want to know one huge difference from last year. We are not starting a true freshman qb.

I appreciate you going back and researching old posts from years back, then picking out snippets that suit your beliefs.
It's 8:34 where I am and I'm sitting here checking out what's going on with my Canes, drinking my coffee.

Good times.

I took Louisville -2.5

and just for your information

Driskell went for 300 yards 66% completion percentage 2 td's 2 int's and had a qb rating of 140...I dont know about yall but ill take that anyday of the week for any QB on our roster against Louisville

I'll bet you a hundred.
I'll take the Canes straight up. Don't need the points.

Once the game is over we can share addresses and mail cashier's check or a money order.
I'm not worried about somebody not paying as it would be boldly posted if someone doesn't.
Did you ever pay up?

I would have, but nobody accepted my wager. Nobody wanted to bet a guy who lived in Los Angeles.

With all due respect to the OP, sending your son to play for Al Golden is.... well, I wish you and him good luck. You are going to need it. Hope he gets better coaching and leadership after the inevitable happens.

Yes, because those who just went to the NFL had it so bad..

I haven't seen a beatin' like this since somebody stuck a banana in my pants and turned a monkey loose.

I hope Shaq is tougher than his dad.

You think he doesn't read this site?

You think recruits don't read this and other Canes' sites?

I used to think that fans had no affect on games except on game day. The Orange Bowl used to literally shudder, and you could see opposing players looking around the stands with worry on their faces.

Now, with the internet and anonymity, a lot of bile gets spewed which recruits and players read. Even though 99% of the vomit is opinion and not fact, to an impressionable mind an impact is made.

You have to really love this coaching staff and the program to want to play for this joke of a fanbase.

It's the fan's fault! This one hasn't been used in a couple of days. Good one.

This is only part of the story. AG has recruited far better than Randy did. Randy signed the 2008 class, quit recruiting, and then watched his dream class, for the most part, do absolutely nothing. AG, instead of losing momentum, seems to be building it. There's a much different vibe around the program now than there was going into Randy's 4th year. If I'm the only one feeling that vibe, so be it.

He's recruited about the same. Golden couldn't even recruit over guys like AJ Highsmith, Kacy Rodgers, Jimmy Gaines, or Shayon Greene, so cool it with the "AG has recruited better" stuff. It's not backed up by fact.

Going into Randy's fourth year, UM was a top 12 team with a positive outlook for the season. We're unranked right now going into Golden's fourth year. I like some things Golden has done this offseason, particularly recruiting, but the "vibe" stuff is revisionist history.

What's revisionist is you, and people like you, speaking about Golden's tenure as if it was an ideal situation.
Shannon left this program in a dumpster, and his ignorance and sheer stupidity almost caused this program to cease to exist.

We were a laughingstock in college football, and an NFL joke when Golden took over. We were also pretty much shut out of the best recruiting area in the country thanks to Shannon's myopia.

The reason Golden has great national respect amongst his peers, even if a few local morons belittle him, is because he has done quite a bit with very little, in the worst imaginable situation for a head coach.

1, the bolded is horrendously wrong because it was Shannon that tried his best to get Nevin out of the program. He even threatened to suspend players and fire coaches if he caught them associating with Shapiro.

Two, my post has nothing to do with whether Golden inherited an "ideal" situation. That's nothing but a red herring by you. I pointed out that Golden has done basically the same thing as Shannon so far, and there's no reason to assume that Golden will "win big" yet. That's it. You guys constantly bring up all this other BS to make excuses for Golden, but none of that explains why we should assume that Golden is going to win big.

Golden has done the exact opposite of Shannon.
Shannon alienated ever high school coach, except it seems a few whom he knew from his hood.
Golden has successfully rebuilt those bridges Shannon burned.

Shannon's idea of training and diet led us to being laughed at by NFL guys like Alonzo Highsmith.
Golden's S & C program and emphasis on good diet versus Shannon's KFC training table, has NFL personnel looking at Miami as a scouting destination again, instead of a vacation spot.

The reason Golden will win very big here is pretty evident when you look at the players.
Look at our 2nd, 3rd and 4th year players.
They have all gotten better each year.
We don't have any bad apples, ala Ray Ray, anymore. Our best players seem to be our hardest workers, and that speaks to, not just individual, but team character.
When everyone on your 2 deep is talented, has worked as hard as possible for self and team improvement, has studied to thoroughly grasp the play book, and most importantly are all pulling on the same oar, then you have a very dangerous team.

The haters always say, "Well, win big and then we will see."
Last year we beat a ranked Gator team, now the revisionists, like yourself, say they sucked.
At the time we beat them they were a top 20 team.

Seems like you guys are only looking for the negatives, while the positives are all around.

Here's a positive you all forget.

Golden is locked into Miami for the long haul. Hate all you want, but he isn't going anywhere for the next 5 years.
But but but "me players"

I'll bet you on this season. Whatever the over/under is on the Canes' this year. I will take the over for a hundred.

You game?

Yeah, Kaaya was a HUGE burden.

Don't have a problem talking football, second-guessing the coaches on scheme, recruiting foibles (misses at RB) and use of personnel. That's all fodder for a loud and healthy debate . . . but where this board has gone off the deep end is it's turned into endless vulgar and classless personal attacks. The idea of mocking and demeaning 19, 20, 21-year-old college athletes is also out of control, whether stuck on the scout team and should never have been recruited or a starting RB with a tendency to cough up the ball in big games. It speaks volumes that so-called moderators/administrators have allowed the vitriol and vulgarity to fester to such a senseless level. Can't complain though cause don't have a nickle in the game, so maybe the solution is to invest in a pay site.

A hundred whats?

A hundred United States Dollars, Euros, Pounds Sterling.

Doesn't matter, that guy is a coward and won't accept the bet.

Than again, as he's shown I'm no psychic, and like everyone else, half my predictions don't occur.

Golden will not win here?
Man, I'm glad the internet wasn't around when Jimmy took over. Guy didn't win a bowl game until the National Championship year.
You guys would have been roasting him.

6-6 7-5 9-4.

Seems like it's gotten better every year.
We lost last night.
Bernie lost 30-3 against the Gators the year we won our first National Championship, and his performance that night mad Kaaya's look like vintage Manning.

I got news for you, "we have to win" people.

In the past 30 years we've won 5 National Championships, we've also NOT won NC's the other 25 years.

You haters think you can just recruit well, flip a switch and it's crystal ball time.

Doesn't work that way, especially with the environment we've had since Shannon.

I support Golden. I can see what he's creating. I saw the same thing when we hired some no name hick back in the early 1980's.
That being said, I'm not a big fan of Coley.

Pardon my French, but are you ******* kidding me? How much money did this sad sack of crap cost Chick by blowing him up 30lbs to play out of position? How did Phil Dorsett only catch 35 passes when he averaged almost 25 yards per catch last season? I'm sure a kid like Perryman, who would have been All-everything in an aggressive scheme, really appreciated playing in a system where he wasn't allowed to make a play until it was 5 yards past the LOS.

Kindly get the **** out of my face with that weak ****, 72.
