Prior to Richt getting fired at UGA, I was under the assumption that Miami was going to go cheap (as usual) on their next coach. Assuming they didn't want to break out the checkbook automatically took names like Herman and Mullen off the list. Which pretty much left the not particularly appealing trio of Greg Schiano, Mario Cristobal or Butch Davis. Of the three, I probably preferred Butch Davis. As soon as I heard Mark Richt was available and the new administration was willing to actually spend some money, all the other candidates meant nothing anymore. Miami lucked into a great situation with a proven winner who's not interested in using the 'Canes as a stepping stone to the NFL or a higher paying NCAA job.
