If we had not gotten richt

Of the candidates we heard as realistic possibilities I think Mullen was the best fit. Dude is cutthroat.

This assumes that Herman was never a possibility and neither was Butch.

Butch was never considered.
How are you defining "never considered"? He interviewed for the job and DMoney went as far as to predict that Butch would be hired by UM based on what he was hearing at the time.

Based on real information, not hearsay, from people who actually know. What proof do you have that an interview ever actually occurred?

So I guess Butch was lying when he said he interviewed?

“I got a chance to interview for the job and they chose to go in a different direction. That’s the life you live sometimes when you’re a coach. I’d have loved the opportunity, but obviously it didn’t work out.”

At first my top candidates were Herman/butch with richt right behind them. Richt was the best hire we could have made IMO

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Leave Butch in 2000 where his story with Miami ends. Should've stuck around and didn't. I am all in on Richt. Let's go win some games.

Bieliema? I can't support a coach who every time I see him on TV I want to take a sledgehammer to his fat f**king melon.

How does him being fat have anything to do with his ability to build a program? Some pretty stupid posts on here.
You need to realize not one poster agrees that Bieliema would have been right for or even considered as a coach at the "U".. Suck it up and move on...

You're moving the goal posts now and mixing arguments. No one is complaining that we didn't hire Butch, and I think most of us are 100% in on Richt until he gives us reason to think otherwise. But you stated that Butch never interviewed. I just provided evidence to the contrary, straight from the horse's mouth. You've provided zero evidence that Butch never interviewed.

I don't have proof that he didn't, but his statement is also not proof that he did. He campaigned for the job, yes. Did they interview him? I'll stick with what I've been told vs. what he projected in the media.

Probably would have still ended up with Diaz as dc.

Prior to Richt getting fired at UGA, I was under the assumption that Miami was going to go cheap (as usual) on their next coach. Assuming they didn't want to break out the checkbook automatically took names like Herman and Mullen off the list. Which pretty much left the not particularly appealing trio of Greg Schiano, Mario Cristobal or Butch Davis. Of the three, I probably preferred Butch Davis. As soon as I heard Mark Richt was available and the new administration was willing to actually spend some money, all the other candidates meant nothing anymore. Miami lucked into a great situation with a proven winner who's not interested in using the 'Canes as a stepping stone to the NFL or a higher paying NCAA job.

It was a good hire, but Tom Herman was the best hire we could've made.
I'll give it to him that he beat Fsu but he needed a lot more experience to coach at the U IMO. All in all richt worked out because he's a great coach,a canes alum, recruits at an elite top 5 level almost annually and has been around good football programs for over 30 years.

I wanted Butch, but really, to me it was anyone but Mario. Herman, Butch, Richt, or whats's his name from Memphis... ANYONE but Mario. Richt was a huge get.

And not one poster has provided even an elementary argument as to
Why he would not be a good fit.

I use things like:
1. Winning percentages in actual quality conferences
2. Excellent track record recruiting south Florida
3. Runs more of a pro style offense and defense
4. Isn't afraid to speak his mind
5. Relatively young

You and the rest of the idiots on this board have provided nothing but:
1. He's fat
2. He's a blowhard

Suck it up, be a man, and go toe to toe with me. Try to argue substance. Sorry if my points on fishbeins recruiting business, Ahmmon Richards or Mullins at cb, or the clear racist drivel behind berrios on this board, were unarguable to such a bunch of pathetic meat bags.

Give it a shot.
