If Golden refuses to make staff changes...

Sorry but this makes no sense. Golden is in his mid 40s not mid 60s 5 million ain't **** and won't last him more than 10 years max. He'd make way more money by turning UM back into a winning program. I am sure that is what his main priority is right now. All this talk of him wanting to get fired to collect a miniscule 5 million is just uninformed fan base poppy ****.

His main priority is salvaging his coaching career. I think he wants out but he can't quit. It will look worse than getting fired.

If he gets fired, he can claim he was unjustly fired because of "the cloud" and also collect a cool five million.

I think he knows he can't win at Miami. That's why he, according to sources, has been secretly looking for another job, and not-so-secretly pushed for the State Penn job.

Like I said, this is fan base make up stuff. Penn State is Al's Alma mater it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why he would go after that job. It was known the day he was hired that he could leave for the Penn State job when Jo Pa retired. I am sure AL thinks he can win at Miami it's our fan base that believes otherwise.

People are making up stuff and speculating here every single day and then believing the stuff they make up.

$5 million can last you dude. If you manage it properly, you may not have to work another day in your life, and if you do, he can become an analyst and then he will be fine. It's also been said the buyout is at $8 million.

Yes it can last. However AL is making over 2 million a year here and trying to stretch 5 million over another 30 or more years is a major pay cut even if you invest wisely. Unless he lucks up an invests in some start up that turns into the next instagram it's just not a credible plan for him to go after. This is just more stupid fan base uninformed speculation.

AL is ambitious and smart enough to land himself a head coaching gig at a major program so common sense alone should tell you that he wants to coach football and this isn't some elaborate plan to coast off of 5mil for the next 40 or so years.

Never underestimate the dumbness of the smartest people. You can be smart and do dumb things. Such as doing the same thing over and over. I think Golden has arrogance and elitist attitudes and its serving him bad. He should have got rid of No D and adopted a more Miami cultured defense without his input. Its that simple. Its been what we have been running forever. I don't know if he's trying to get fired....but he doesn't want to be here and its not just Pedo St. He was spent after they gave him the middle finger. There was no winning this season. But his rep is getting worse has we had so many televised games for people to see just how inept he is. He will lose 7 games next season and be canned. Only delaying the inevitable.

You are mistaken here....for two reasons. First, the power of compounding returns. Since Golden is young, that 5m even invested conservatively will likely mushroom to 20m or more when he is in his 60s, so it's a big ****ing deal to his family.

Second, since it's becoming increasingly clear to the rest of the country how spectacularly he is failing at Miami, he is likely relegated to a crappy job in the near future (possibly non Power 5) with salary prospects around 1m per season until he can get another shot at the big times. So having to take a pay cut makes that big nest egg all the more important.

This stupid theory is predicated on the fact that AL is refusing to fire any of his assistants so that he can get fired to get that 5 million. Something that is just asinine and goes against common sense. It's the proverbial stepping over dollars to grab pennies. AL Golden is not as dumb as some of the posters here so I am sure AL is trying his best to make Miami a winner because then he would stand to make waaaaaaay more that the miniscule 5 million some fans think he is plotting to collect. He would be able to walk into any coaching job in college OR NFL. There is no power of compounding returns that can trump being a working head coach for the next 15 years. So no I am not mistaken at all.

How do you know he doesn't want to be here? Sounds like pure speculation of a frustrated fan base. I am sure there are other jobs he would rather have but I don't doubt for a minute that he isn't giving 100%. It's in his and D'Nos financial and professional interest to succeed here. The idea of him wanting to get fired to collect a payout is simply illogical.

This man is smart. He doesn't want to be here. His first option was get another gig. Hasn't worked. Option 2 is stay here until they fire him. He is gonna win in the long run. There is no losing scenario. If he gets fired he is hitting the bank. Who cares if he doesn't get another gig. He will retire happily or become an analyst- and he will have all that cash money.

He may not be a good coach, but he isn't dumb. He will play these clowns and see the contract extension, or he will get a better job.

Remember, we are talking about a guy who got himself an extension after a 6-6 season.

agreed with all this. He has the admin by the balls. He doesn't want to be here so force them to fire you and then maybe take a year off, take a nice vacation courtesy of the buyout. Then come back and get a nice cushy mid level head coaching job which is where he is more comfortable anyway. Someone will hire him.

He has to give 100% if he wants to get hired again. I don't doubt the guys "want" to be a good coach here but clearly there's a rift. It may be speculation to this point, but it's really the only thing that makes much sense.

If the buyout due to the extension is too large, UM should go after Shalala for it.

Or make up for it by hiring a new coach who doesn't have a buyout to pay from another school (UF-CSU)

Like Butch Davis

Or Chud, Schiano, Whittingham

I think Golden actually thinks he's better than what he is. That's why he won't fire anybody. He really doesn't have a plan in place nor is he able to change and evolve as a coach. That's the sign of a **** poor coach.

If he gets fired his agent gets 15% of his buyout. I'll take a check for $750k.

you know its not gonna happen **** he wouldnt even can someone in 2012 after that horrific defense. no balls.

You mean he would have to live like most of us and be normal. Not live in some mansion and drive a different Bentley each day of the week. Not be able to fly in a private jet everywhere he goes. Dude, I am 40. You give me 5M and I will live like a king for the next 30 yrs.

Truth be told, golden is an ******* and narcissist. Getting fired or staying is all the same to him. In the end he comes out a winner. He probably believes he's the victim and deserves that buy out money because of the cloud. As to coaching to win, I think deep down he knows he will never win and will never coach DI football again. He's a terrible coach that lucked into a school more incompetent than his football acumen.

I disagree. The problem is not that he doesn't have a plan.
The problem is that he is unwilling to deviate from his plan.Call
him stubborn if you want but he is a very organized dude.
It's binder or bust. There is no binder #2.
I am willing to bet that there is a section on
perseverance in the face of negativity in that thing.

And that's a scary thought. Because the best coaches around had to deviate from well formulated plans. Bellicheck, Saban, Carroll. Even Schiano is admitting he could have done a lot different. They all put Golden to shame

Shut the **** up dude. You are acting like your getting information directly from Golden. There is something called body language and something called tone. And both of those have been **** poor since he got turned down for Pedo St. He even refuses to even talk about it.....he may burst into tears if he does. And look no furthur than the recruiting trail. Its as cold as Alaska and people used to say how hard and relentless he was on the trail. Don't ask me nonesense again. You come here as the great defender of the douche. Golden doesn't want to be here and neither does his broad. Get over it, its more when than if at this point.

Al out negotiated Blake and the board with the PSU interview? they panicked and gave him complete authority
on staff changes + huge buy out.... rhetorical question do you thin we need a new AD ?(they both need to go
Al need to rebuild his career somewhere else... Philosophically his style will never mesh with Fla.talent
read and react vs. attack and disrupt . he has admitted he is a micro manager and keeps Coleys and I thin keeps Coleys hands tied
need to stroke the check today.......
