If Canes are 10-2 and NOT in the Playoffs

Is there any way to avoid the apocryphal "Pop Tarts" bowl?!?

who decides who goes to which non-New Years 6 bowl games?

As always, non-CFP bowl game matchups are decided by pre-arranged conference affiliations and contracts.

There are no choices.

Is this the acceptance phase?

playoffs or bust. Any other bowl game will just be an excuse to watch a football game. Oh Mario..

and miami loves the orlando bowl. they always draw well, its an easy trip, and there's a lot for the players to do during the week

i think UM prefers it to be in state bowl or a spot where they have a huge alumni base (reason why they like the NY bowl games).
Thats understandable but the pop tarts bowl name is just awful and brings down the perception of that game

It's not "bowl games don't matter" season yet. Save that **** for two (hopefully not one) weeks from now.

Bowl games are on life support in the playoff era. The only reason to go in person is if one of the corporate sponsors is Chic-fil-A, skittles, or something else like that so you can get all the giveaways. Or, maybe if a bowl game is in a city you’ve always dreamed of visiting, like El Paso, it might be worth going.

The benefit to the team is a paycheck and a chance to see some of next year’s players. Bowl games are like a Spring scrimmage against another school.
Dream bowl city like Tulsa or Jaxonville?

Perhaps someone answered this later, but I went through the first page, and no one specifically said. Also, by the way, not sure everyone knows but ESPN has a division called ESPN events which actually outright owns about 17 bowl games including some with acc tie ina

Lastly, I know people talk about the pop tarts game but actually I’d rather go to a bowl game that people pay attention to and gets a lot of social media hits just win the **** thing if you’re gonna go less concerned about going to The who gives a **** bowl and where the **** is that USA . People get stuck on the name, but it’s one of the highest payouts the ACC has and at least they promote their **** event and the eyeballs and ratings are good.

ACC BOWL SELECTION CHART
===========================

1. COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF (12-team CFP)
------------------------------------------
• ACC Champion → Auto-bid if ranked Top 6
• Any other ACC team can be selected as an at-large

2. NEW YEAR'S SIX (When Not Used as CFP Rounds)
-----------------------------------------------
• Orange Bowl → ACC tie-in if not a CFP Quarterfinal/Semifinal
• Other NY6 bowls (Peach, Fiesta, Cotton, Sugar, Rose) can select ACC teams
based on national ranking and committee placement.

Once CFP + NY6 teams are removed, EVERYONE ELSE goes into one pool.

3. ACC "POOL OF BOWLS" (NO PECKING ORDER)
------------------------------------------
The ACC does NOT use a draft or ranking system.
The following bowls work WITH the ACC to place teams:

• Gator Bowl
• Holiday Bowl
• Sun Bowl
• Pop-Tarts Bowl (Orlando)
• Duke’s Mayo Bowl
• Fenway Bowl
• Pinstripe Bowl
• Military Bowl
• Gasparilla Bowl
• Birmingham Bowl
• Las Vegas Bowl
• LA Bowl Hosted by Gronk

All of these are equal in conference selection rights.

4. HOW THE ACC DECIDES PLACEMENT
----------------------------------
ACC + Bowl reps collaborate based on:

• Team record and season profile
• Avoiding repeat trips (don’t send the same team 2–3 years in a row)
• Avoiding repeat opponents
• Geography/travel expectations
• Expected ticket sales
• TV matchup value
• Ensuring variety for fanbases

Result: A lower-payout bowl can get a 9–3 team, and a higher-payout bowl
can get a 7–5 team — because payout does NOT determine priority.

ACC Bowls Owned by ESPN Events
------------------------------
• Gasparilla Bowl
• Birmingham Bowl
• Fenway Bowl
• Myrtle Beach Bowl (ACC tie-in certain years)
• First Responder Bowl (rotational ACC tie-in some years)
• Armed Forces Bowl (rotational possibility depending on matchups)

Additional ESPN-owned bowls that can occasionally involve ACC matchups
depending on year or conference agreements:
• Boca Raton Bowl
• New Mexico Bowl
• Frisco Bowl
• Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

I live in Orlando so for reasons that are completely selfish and only apply to me, give me the Tarty if we're not in the playoff.

I'd rather play someone other than BYU though. I guess last year the Big 12 Champ Game loser went there, so if it's the same this year, that's why BYU is projected since the odds are they'll lose to Texas Tech in Dallas.

Gator Bowl would be cool against an SEC team. Maybe Vandy or Tennessee?
I want Vandy so we can crush the **** out of them and prove the SEC "ranked" teams are trash.

This just caught my eye

If we go 10-2, we will be an enormous non-CFP draw. Maybe the biggest. We'll get in a good bowl and as long as we go 11-2, I will be somewhat happy. If Mario can win out (assuming we don't make the ACCCHGM or CFP), we will be one of the hottest teams out there and if we nab a stud QB from the portal, We'll start the year ranked somewhere in the top 7 and I could even see the top 4.
