Idk why some of you are so concerned about Nickel as our starter

I don't think we need to follow anyone else's example, really. I just want us to be able to have a deeper QB room. With continuity in the coaching staff, it would be nice to have a QB on the roster that has been in the system a while. One that can actually make the throws and reads necessary. People acting like it's impossible to bring up a competent QB from high school is silly. Even if he is just a decent backup.
 
So we getting a QB coach or no?

If Nickel only getting reps w/walkons, that’s not development. I don’t expect Dawson to stay after practice with just the qbs, but that’s why you need to bring someone in. And the #4-#6 wrs can stay afterwards too and work on their craft. In the nfl, you see a backup qb be pressed into service and a lot of times they end up establishing a connection with not only the starters, but also one of the guys he had been working with too.

Forget that ai crap too, lol.

I’m with you. I think Nickel and Coleman are examples of that personally

I think the writing off of Nickel here is insane

But that’s just my opinion and your point is legit. It did take us a bit to get QB recruiting going in the right direction

The Emory and Judd takes compared to the Nickel and Coleman takes for example

I like what we are doing but we can always do better was just curious if you had someone in mind

I'm having a hard time remembering when we had a QB come off the bench and do a good job. Maybe TVD for a short time? Man, we've had some pitiful, pitiful backup QBs over the last 20+ years.

Not only that. If Nickel was turning heads in practice, it would have been leaked. How many other freshmen have we heard about? I had zero shocks when @Cribby posted he's not ready. Because if Luke were ready, someone would have said it weeks or months ago.

I do think he’ll be the backup next year for whatever that’s worth .

This is true. The qb position gets worse every year. I guess because of what the qb position has morphed into. There’s not many traditional pocket passers. Basically just athletes now.

Most of the programs have dipped into the portal for QBs. Washington State has developed QBs ((Cam was a transfer), but ultimately can’t afford them.

Each of those developed their QB. Whether they got them out of the portal or not. They were the ones responsible for development. I'm not bored enough to look for more. That's just off the top of my head. Either way not much point in this. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions. Right or wrong.
 
Miami needs to take part of the money the team won in the playoffs and create a staff to assess and develop players.. mainly QB's, but pretty much anyone who wants to put in work. Paying 6 mil a year for one position is expensive (it is what it is). You better have a plan if that guy gets hurt. I mean how much is a high school 5 star recruit? Gotta do both to sustain the momentum. Find guys who fit your system and will take a reasonable amount to come here and develop. The staff wouldn't be looking in the portal if next years qb answer was already here. We're in teh acc, baring craziness 10 wins should be the floor now. work smarter not harder. Pay the piper while you develop your pipeline.

I mean he did under throw his first and only collegiate pass, so it’s a safe assumption his career is over. Too bad he’s not taller, we need a TE.

Dante Moore is going back to Oregon so that means whoever signed there has an opportunity to back out. That’s our guy. I think it Dylan Rialo.

With that being said. Nothing wrong with incorporating this training but nothing replaces live repetition with HANDS ON COACHING FROM AN ESTABLISHED QUARTERBACK COACH
