Identity versus schematics

yeah not disagreeing but im a realist. Mario has 2 more years minimum. He's not firing Dawson so only realistic hope for an offensive change is for dawson to take a job elsewhere. odds of that? 20%?
I think Dawson might leave because every year he spends running Mario's offense is killing any future advancement he will ever have.

We don’t self scout even though Mario says it all the time . You can’t be if you’re this predictable
I mean he probably does but he’s just dumb so it doesn’t matter. Once the film is out after the first couple games and teams adjust to us, Mario has no counter. Average x’ and o’s coaches run circles around Mario.

Mario has the personnel to be the team Mario wants to be. The problem is Mario is the coach so they'll never be that team. The same reason we have so many penalties, is the same reason we aren't a dominant run team, and is the same reason we have a good roster. This sucks.
Program purgatory. He will be forever good enough

I just said this in another post

Mario cares more about winning his way than winning the best way.

Yeah. Put it another way,

"win by any means possible" for this program is limited to "win by Mario's approved, unevolving methods only"

which is a pretty good way to be a mid piece of **** Loser at the end of the day.

I believe identity and all programs should have one but it doesn’t mean doing the same insanity over and over . You can have a physical identity while still having creativity. Some of Sabans teams at bama under Sarkisian had tons of creativity and next level route concepts.
Interestingly, Mario left Alabama when Saban realized CFB was changing and he could not longer expect to win just by running the ball and playing defense. There will be games were you need to score enough to win a shootout. Many games. Lane Kiffin as OC.

And Mario leaves for a lateral position working for Willie Taggart at Oregon?

Mike Ryan has said he’s had many opportunities to leave but no high profile offers
and thats the problem. he makes ~$2M here and knows Mario will give me a top OL and $3-4M to buy a top QB. so he prob says f it, ill stick around unless someone big ever calls

Butch benefited from opposing teams not quite having the networks/recruiting arms that they have now. Mario ain’t gonna get a roster like 2001 with his coaching inabilities.
I agree that 01 will never be replicated... but if we take a deep breath... so many coaches go 10-3, then 10-3, then 9-3, then 11-2, then 10-3 before they break through. There's really only been a few anomalies... Saban, Meyer come to mind... Before those guys a natty was the chery on top of the career. I think that's where we are going back to.

Mario believes his way is the only way.

He never changes despite losing games against season against inferior teams. All coaches experience bad days and upsets but these were annual experiences at Oregon and now at Miami.

Even last season, Mario managed to lose at GT and two weeks later blow a 21-point lead at Syracuse and miss an opportunity to play in the ACC Championship Game and CFP, despite having the #1 overall pick in QB Cam Ward leading the #1 rated offense.

Assembled a generationally bad defense for Year 3 despite being an 'elite recruiter and program builder'.

I shredded Mario for the Gattis hire and the scheme but Dawson showed alot his first couple years. Even under Tvd in year one . It seems like the more this team gets built to what Mario what’s the more tighter and condensed we get . Leaning more on their run game . Much more conservative.

We are the easiest team to coach against because we never change what we are going to call. By November there is so much tape on how to properly game plan against us that the record in November and December make sense

Dawson’s only successful offensive year before Miami was the year at Houston where he lost his RBs and had to revert to a true Mike Leach style Air Raid.

He’s running exactly what he wants to be running.
