I was wrong

I have said for about 15 years prior to Mario's hire was all it took was the right hire and a good/great recruiter. Mario happens to be both. We all know the previous hires, minus CMR, were just done out of laziness and lack of concern for the program. People kept saying they wish Miami was back but I really don't think they understood what they were saying. Some or most of those very people saying that now have slow swelling hate because they know when Miami is rolling, so does CFP, because it must see TV.

It took money above all. Mario here with 2020 money, he's a failure here like everyone else. Same old, same old, at President and AD. Of course, he wouldn't come back in that situation. He has addressed and answered every question as a coach with resources. 5 short months ago, few thought we were a 10 win team, many questioned the defensive hires. questioned if he was a playoff coach, questioned our QB, questioned both our DE's entering the season and more. Those cover almost all of our fanbase. Their are still that have no clue Beck is the 2nd best QB we have had here in over 25 years. He will most likely be drafted around the 3rd RD and fans will still talk silly. Like everyone, I was about as low as I could feel after SMU.

Yup

Recruit the best in the trenches recruit nationally mix in sfla studs and Miami is Miami again. So easy to see that Mario was the best option especially when you start to see the roster moves year one.

Most of us thought it was over after SMU, kudos to Mario for getting over that late season hump.
Yeah, the criticism mid season was warranted in the period between Louisville and SMU. Even @Pentagon Cane criticized him and he’s been solidly with Mario.

The thing is that after the SMU debacle, which is the rare game I think refs changed an outcome but anyway, we went back to what had worked and we took off. The criticism of that low period was justified and the praise since is justified as well.

I’m a Miami Hurricanes fan first and foremost and I’m not loyal to one coach or player. Call the good and the bad as it is.

NO ONE, and I mean no one would have, or could have predicted we’d make a run like we did after the SMU game. I had resigned myself to at best finishing 9-3 and eating more PopTarts.

Kudos to Mario and the guys for getting their **** together and giving us one of the most memorable seasons ever.

I'll admit it. I was down on Mario mid season. Questioning where we were going.

Looking at what he has built I was wrong.

There could not be a better coach for Miami.

The future is as bright as it has ever been.

Go Canes.
All good and humility is the most admirable trait in a person.

Staff retention won’t be mentioned by many but that is the key. Haven’t had it here in my lifetime till now.

People had a little bit of a wrong POV about what happened post SMU as well

We looked like absolute *** against Syracuse the next week but our defense got a huge turnover right before half time

It was 0-0 most of the first half

The NCST game we started to click but then had an odd game against VT. Though we were down Scott and Thomas in that one

Anyway. We didn’t really put it all together until Pitt imo

Both could be true.

A.) You could absolutely deserve to be down on Mario and the Offensive side of the staff for drinking the rat poison and pretending they didn't need to change, until they were forced to.

B.) He's absolutely the best person for the Job. There is no one else alive who would be as committed and as good as he is at putting together a NC caliber team.

Given the competition, Pitt was the most complete game we had all year.

Pitt game was my pick in the thread DMoney asked about one's biggest surprise of the season. As you pointed out, we outmatched most of the remaining schedule, but played slow and were less exciting, but winning. The Pitt game showed true signs of the team we saw earlier in the year vs a team that had a history of playing well vs us, especially at home. Think Moten started that game with a sack which set the tone from there on through the CFP.

I think the extend Mario guy in the CIS YouTube chat had this one pegged

One thing I give credit to Mario for, but I hope he learned the lesson as opposed to just doing it out of desperation.

You need to blow teams out when you can. Dont let up. SCORES MATTER.

He coached with the right mentality after the SMU loss.

That's a lot more important than people think. Not only for the committee, but for team mentality. You need dogs that dont know what the off button is.

Yeah, the coaching staff earned the hate but they definitely turned it around. It might have been fran brown's dumbass that ran his mouth and ****ed Mario off enough that there was a serious change after half time of that game. We all say it was the SMU game that started the change but it really wasn't till half time of syracuse that the offense changed. franny stood on the other sideline glaring, posturing, and running his mouth.. thanks dumbass, you woke the sleeping giant.

The loss to SMU may have been a blessing in disguise in that it seemed to change Mario’s approach to the game and maybe even the players. Hopefully, it was a lesson learned and he’ll continue to evolve.
