I still can't get over the hire of Patke

UM doesn’t have the money to pay a top notch staff. Our staff will always be half-assed

Unfortunately, this.

You guys really have to understand where we are now vs where we've come from. The buy-in to the football program from the university is FAR greater than it's ever been, and that's a testament to Blake James and Mark Richt (with an assist to Golden, who finally proved that if you hire a budget staff you get mediocre results).

James was given the authority to increase the budget in order to bring Richt in. Richt negotiated a little higher salary pool for assistants than was previously laid out. So this was a huge investment to a program by a school who had invested virtually nothing since the 1980s. All in all, a massive upgrade from the administration.

HOWEVER, Miami is still very, very, very far behind the elite schools, monetarily. They're not even in the same ballpark. Patke was hired in large part because he was cheap. Again, not defending the move. It was incredibly short-sighted, as he really brings nothing to the staff, and he wasn't needed considering the performance of the defense and Manny's ability to coach LBs. But the NCAA gave the green-light for a 10th assistant, and Richt's pockets are empty. So you get Patke.

You guys just have to accept the fact that this is a 2nd rate program in terms of money, and we will need to win using our natural resources (brand, location, pedigree, academics) instead of winning the arms race. That's not a fair fight, and Miami will never be able to compete in that arena.

Patke is the least of our worries.

There’s only 2 scenarios that can save us:

1. Richt has a finding Jesus moment and adapts the offense to what we have. He also looks at himself as a play caller and changes for the better.

2. Richt has a finding Jesus moment and realizes time has passed his OC skills by. He still wants to coach so he demotes Jr to Lead Coffee Getter and hires a true OC.

We used this opportunity to hire a guy to coach not even a whole position group, but part of a group, instead of addressing the parts of our team that are an abomination such as special teams or offense. That Richt thought this was the best use of the extra coach position is beyond alarming.

Completely agree w caveat that he’s doing a great job coaching SLB though.

What an absolute waste of an opportunity that was and a complete indictment of Richt.
He is out of synch on what is going on. Not sure why that is. But obviously it is problematic. Some have suggested he does not care, which I find hard to believe. Another post suggested he is like a 95 year old that does not realize he/she should not drive, that may very well be the case. Someone needs to take his keys away.

You STILL believe this? You think the reason we hired a super inexperienced guy to help out with LBs over a STs coach is because of money?

I said STAFF not just some BS position coach. If you think UM has the money to pay for an elite staff you should probably put down the pipe.

Do we need an alabama type staff of 123098 ex HBCs as coordinators/coaches to win? No. Do we need a competent OC here to win? Yes. Does a competent OC break the bank? No.

Everyone understands this, but the confusion is why at that position and why give it to a QC guy. We knew we weren’t going to be Ohio state and go snag some big time name as our 10th coach but we were expecting a name with some experience, coaching a unit that needed improvement, most notably ST and OL. Not coaching exclusively LBs. This is Patke’s first on field, full time coaching job on the FBS level... At the University of Miami.

I mean, culling through the list of problems, LB play isn't what jumps out at me at this point, but I understand the sentiment.

It's like Richt just doesn't give a ****

He gives a chit! He's just past his prime and won't evolve to today's major college football offensive schemes, tactics and what not. Nothing more, nothing less. The late great honorable John W. Wooden eventually EVOLVED regarding major college basketball back in the day. And how many national championships did he have? Right.

WRONG! UM has the money to compete with anyone. There's multiple billionaire's on our BOT alone. There's only about 500 in the entire country. I fully believe James would pay whatever necessary if Richt came in with conviction saying we need to upgrade. The issue is Richt's nepotism, not money.

BINGO!

CMR cares about the football program. He's just not keeping up with the times regarding offenses in today's major college football. Nothing more, nothing less.

Umm no. **** in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills first. You are delusional if you think we can pay for an elite staff . **** the IPF still isn’t fully funded .

Lmfao Agree 100%. Hire had nothing to do with money, we could’ve gotten a more experienced guy at a more needed position for the same cost. I could go google either FAU, UCF, or USF staffs and find an affordable, more experienced name that will help us especially on offense. Does that mean they’re actually good coaches? No, but it’s nothing to find a fit for us at a lesser or equal program and pay them in the same ballpark.

If these gentlemen cared, you speak so kindly of, then why did Miami have two head coaching FLOPS prior to CMR. Mr. Onion Head WASN'T ready to be a head coach at a Power 5 program, and the other dude was OUT OF HIS LEAGUE. The bottom line, is these powerful MONEY BROKERS were TOO CHEAP to hire a proven, experienced head coach!!!!

They had CMR locked up immediately. He's a proven HC. We had our pick. Now, the BOT's just became BOT's in the past couple years I'm referring too. A few hundred thousands is nothing to these people or our university. You have no idea what you're talking about saying UM doesn't have money. That's a BS excuse.
The school runs more promotions for the IPF. They've already hit the goal and keep increasing it if you all haven't noticed.
