I love d$ but I hope he’s off the arch love fest after this…

I understand, but you can’t teach someone how to process the game. You can know the ins and outs and still be Dan Orlovsky on the field
I think you definitely CAN teach someone how to process the game. The relevant questions become how long will it take and whether the time/money investment are worth it?

It definitely comes easier to some than others.

I keep hearing the “GMs will value his last name” line.

When does that actually happen? The last time I heard this was with Eli Manning, who ended up winning two Super Bowls and throwing for a million yards.

If anything, these legacy first rounders actually overperform relative to the average first round pick (McAffrey, Watt, Matthews x2, Horn, Surtain).
Not the GM's so much but the owners do and it's not uncommon for owners to make high first round picks especially when drafting QB's.

Really want to look at Eli's career and say he was worth a #1 overall pick? TD to INT ratio was atrocious and the Giants defense won those Super Bowls. In those 2 SB's the Giants O didn't crack 40 points combined.

All those legacy players you named were truly dominant college players. All of them were the top or amongst the top players at their position.
Of course Eli was worth the #1 pick.

He won two Super Bowls and is 11th all-time in passing yards.

Ironically, the best scenario for Arch is if it somehow turns on for him as it seemingly did for him down the stretch last season. Then he really turns it on like his uncle Eli did in NFL playoffs.
Not try to do too much or throw any dangerous passes. Be a good game manager. Let the running game be a focus. Let the defensive monsters do their thing and win that way.

That will be his only hope at winning in the SEC or making a playoff run.

But odds are more likely all the pressure and nervous energy gets to him and they lose a few more games and fail to make any run.

Danny this kid is bad, bro. You've had some very good QB takes in the past, you deserve to victory lap the **** out of Mendoza in particular.

But this kid is bad, period. Yes, he's got some traits you'd want, obviously. But he's inaccurate, he's got awful mechanics, he's a slow processor, and he's thinking WAY too much. I know there will always be some out of left-field examples like Josh Allen, so I wouldn't sign my life up to this kid sucking at the next level, but just look at literally every single metric.

Here's one:

How are these quarterbacks being perceived nationally right now?

Quarterback A: 63% completions (63rd nationally), 7.7 YPA (51st), 143.31 rating (51st), 2/1 TD to INT ratio (10 TD/5 INT), 102 yards rushing, 0 TDs

Quarterback B: 66.7% completions (32nd), 7.7 YPA (51st), 144.89 rating (47th), 2/1 TD to INT ratio (8 TD/4 INT), 70 yards rushing, 0 TDs

Looks like the same **** player, honestly.

QB A is Arch Manning
QB B is John Mateer

John Mateer was the laughingstock of the country headed into last weekend. And his numbers got even worse after the UT game, he threw for 155 yards and 0 TDs on 26 attempts. Putrid. So it's not like he resurrected himself. Everyone on the entire planet says he's ***. Our fans are thanking Jesus H Christ he didn't come here. He's unplayable.

And he's pretty much exactly Arch. If Arch didn't have the last name, forget getting to this point, just going off this year only, he'd be firmly planted on the bench. He's has essentially one good quarter in his entire career against a team with a pulse.

Nope. Called him a bust from Day 1. No instincts.
Whoa!!! And you think Archie has instincts? He gets a nice throw or two every game but that’s it.

He can not read defenses for the life of himself and he has had every possible teaching opportunity since the youngest of ages! If he can’t do it now. He never will.

There is more than just the last name, which is why the NFL is watching him so closely.

I thought he’d take a step as a college player this year, and he hasn’t. So I’ll raise my hand and take the L on that.

But I still think he’s a very talented prospect, and most of the backlash is based off people like Finebaum and not Arch’s actual skillset.

I’ve been searching for a comp, and he actually reminds me of Sam Darnold. Similar size, arm and athleticism. Arch is actually a better runner. It took a while for Darnold to find his footing but the payoff ended up strong.

“Never won a playoff game aside from his two Super Bowl runs” is a new level of Manning hate. I’m impressed.
Almost as impressive as your unending Arch slurp. Although I will note that your comments are slowly inching their way closer toward a sane take. Maybe by 2030 you'll come around. By then you ought to have enough NFL data to finally decry that Arch sucks.

I just don’t get the love fest for him.

His mechanics are bad, his footwork isn’t good. His arm strength is OK, his accuracy is meh. I get that some of those things can be fixed ( and accuracy issues are tied to his mechanics), but all he really has going for him is he’s athletic, but so are half the QB’s in CFB.
I think he actually has a strong arm. Just like JaMarcus Russel.

To be fair I also think Arch is better than AR15 by a landslide. Not that it means much lol

Would you be kind enough to list his skillset @DMoney ? Here's my list of what he's good at:

1. Has a strong arm
2. Has fast in-line speed and can scramble
The End

Here's my list of what he's bad at:
1. Processing
2. Footwork
3. Mechanics
4. Accuracy
5. Crumbling in big moments

I could probably list more, but no need for overkill on that right now. What am I and 94% of the rest of the world missing?

I don't hate Arch. I hate the unending hype that is thrown at him. I hate the slurp. It's nauseating to see his name atop Heisman lists. He hasn't accomplished schidt thus far relative to the ratings and expectations out of high school. He literally had a rating of 1.000 as a prospect which is the definition of a perfect prospect. It's comparable to a hole in one or a 300 game in bowling - you cannot do better. What he's put on tape in his 3.5 years of college has been about a 0.842 rating. Not even close.

The excuses for his gameplay is also vomit worthy!

The dude has had everything possible to be the GUY that one human being can be given and pundits continue to not only ignore his deficiencies but then blame everyone else.

I'm genuinely curious to know what I'm missing. My eyes tell me he's an average college QB with a strong arm and some wheels, but not much else. I'd like to know what these elite traits are. Being 6'4"?

I’m with you! I’ve unfortunately watched 4 Texas games this year.

He just doesn’t have it!

I’m baffled that real experts are still talking about him as a legit NFL prospect. I mean we all know he will be drafted but he isn’t even a better prospect than Carson and he went in the third round. 5-7 range if his name was anything else.

He has a good not elite arm. He is an above average athlete-scrambler. That’s it. All of things you mentioned about his flaws are spot on.
