Their coach is irritating and their fans have ONE natty, but act like their Bama under Saban.

Although it’s unlikely we’ll get the chance to play them, the natty game and leading up to the natty game has put a really bad taste in my mouth.

I really do appreciate Beck and what he did for us, but dawg… Malachi was open !

Anyway, I feel super confident about this season.
 
This is where they sit in class recruiting rankings. Looks about right to me:

They are definitely going against the grain in terms of building a roster according to the recruiting rankings. But that didn’t matter at all when they went up against two of the most talented rosters in the country in OSU/Oregon.

They got elite coaching and more than likely ‘elite’ scouting.

But yeah the fan base is already annoying and Cignetti’s quirk has worn off very fast.
 
They lost 16 starters, 12 backups and situational players. Worse than that, I expect every opponent to have a completely separate playbook for them, different from everyone else.,They still return a few good players. They brought in a higher level of portal talent this off season, but not near enough. I don't have them making the playoff. What do I know, I have OSU as a borderline playoff team this season?

Like I said. Beck is solid. But he’s just not clutch.
 
They will not be there at the end this year and I’m not really sure how often they will be again. Could be a close to what Penn State has been historically(last 10 years). Could be wrong I just don’t see it.
 
funny you mention this i ran a charter today for a family of 12 from Indiana, 1/4 of whom were decked out in IU national champs gear and im wearing my Canes hat. we start heading out i put on the stereo and who i assume was the grandmother cause the ***** had to be 70 somethin asks if she can request a song....the ***** says she wants to hear 'Fernando' then looks at me and says 'go hoosiers'.
si just reminded her that hes a Florida boy, so was their RB and the **** DB also who had the pick at the end....***** tried me

I hear you. I just expect he’ll never be able to recruit at a top 20 level nationally at Indiana. Local talent is scarce, too. He’ll mostly be settling for developmental kids and hidden gems in the portal. Meanwhile, the bigger programs will have deconstructed his tendencies by now and identified more ways to exploit their talent advantage.

Jimmies and Joes > Xs and Os. You need both to get to the playoffs consistently but you especially need the talent.
 
I'll put it this way, they have to be near-perfect in player evaluations and coaching for it to keep going AND hope that there isn't a super team forming somewhere that has the ability to locally recruit the best talent in the country.

Going with the transfer portal strategy works until you have blunders. And they will have blunders. They will have assistants leaving. They will get figured out one way or the other. Ultimately, they weren't unbeatable last year and they aren't this year. No one is.
 
I think they’re in for a rude awakening when they realize that they had a 10 win team but Mendoza put them over the top. Hoover is a game manager. A good one but he’s nothing special. Plus coaches get plucked over time and it’s hard to sustain without elite recruiting. We shall see
