Gattis gets paid well to make it…. Um…less dramatic or …. Productive…“It was a dramatic change” has not/is not mentioned nearly enough. Whether or not Gattis’ offense is **** or not, is yet to be seen.

This is where I am with him as well. But, I know you're a big TVD guy, so I'm curious what you'd hope they'd get him into in terms of sets and play calls. Mind you, this isn't likely to be the thread for that discussion.
I appreciate the additional info. Missed that interview.
About TVD, you’re right there is something else going on—but last year when he went the first half of most games starting really slowly and missing throws what was that attributed to?
I feel like that was a red flag then too he just made up for it most of the time In the second half turning into a super sayan
Consistency is important from QB right?
I think we disagree about that then. Last year I remember him starting slow on many occasions and calming down in the second half. FSU is another game that comes to mind but I’ll see if I can find out which other games. Not sure i would characterize last year (exception of UNC and UVA before he found his stride) as “struggling”. Remember, lashlee and him meeting about that and for the 6 games that followed he was much more consistent and played extremely well. So I think that was pretty well managed by all concerned.
of course, consistency is important. But what’s more important is making the plays when you need to.
No one in the passing game did that against TAM.
He is more accurate. That alone helps since outside of the last pass his receivers had to adjust or slow down for almost every pass. Even the short stuff he makes his receivers slow down and adjust which let's the d close. Oh and he hangs them out to dry as well. Ask Redding and Parrish.Jake Garcia seems like a way better fit for this scheme. If we aren't switching the scheme, we need to switch QBs.
TVD needs a lot of passes and usually a halftime break (at least he did last year) before he starts to sling it without over thinking. He was phenomenal in the second half last year, but he was often times timid and unsure in the first. That is how he has looked all year this year, and with our emphasis on dominating with the run and having more balance I'm not sure he's going to get the time he needs to feel comfortable.
I know he's great when he's clicking, but it isn't great that he takes so long to click. Nothing against the kid, but Jake doesn't seem like he has the same confidence / over thinking issues. He's doesn't think that much lol he just whips it and is excited and ready to play.
I want to see what he can do because I think if he was in we win that game even with all the BS and self-inflicted problems we had.
Thoughts?
P.S. I'm not excusing the dropped passes or the fact that a different playcaller and scheme would be more friendly for TVD. I'm just saying I think we need someone who believes we can win, and someone who believes in their ability to execute the offense. I think Jake is that guy
Well like the others are saying we don’t know with certainty that jake will do better, but I agree that the way Tyler has been throwing and playing I’d be really surprised if jake wouldn’t have been better so far this year as QB1.He is more accurate. That alone helps since outside of the last pass his receivers had to adjust or slow down for almost every pass. Even the short stuff he makes his receivers slow down and adjust which let's the d close. Oh and he hangs them out to dry as well. Ask Redding and Parrish.
I'm basing my assessments in the clean up time Garcia has had. Just looks more comfortable. Granted it's clean up time.Well like the others are saying we don’t know with certainty that jake will do better, but I agree that the way Tyler has been throwing and playing I’d be really surprised if jake wouldn’t have been better so far this year as QB1.
So we went from predictable runs last year to predictable passes this year. Hope they make adjustmentsIt’s a bad schematic fit and the route concepts and spacing doesn’t help wr’s. If this tight , congested inside the hashes garbage is the offense we’ll struggle all year. The wr’s are an issue but defenders were sitting on most routes because it’s basic and predictable.
Been trying not to think about last night and reset. Jumping back in I’m seeing a lot of this Gattis vs TVD blame. I don’t think we need to die on a hill and just choose sides. It’s a little of both. It’s a bad schematic fit and the route concepts and spacing doesn’t help wr’s. If this tight , congested inside the hashes garbage is the offense we’ll struggle all year. The wr’s are an issue but defenders were sitting on most routes because it’s basic and predictable.
Don't even get me started on this....F-ing deplorable.By the way, I know this was supposed to be a puff piece, but it raised serious red flags to me:
https://www.espn.com/college-footba...aiting-two-decades-quarterback-tyler-van-dyke.
Most troubling part,
"When Gattis first joined the staff, he asked Van Dyke how he kept in touch with his receivers during the offseason. Turns out, he didn't. He didn't even have most guys' phone numbers.
"That was just shocking," Gattis said. "How can you build a team of wide receivers, tight ends, quarterbacks, and you're not all being on a group chat -- all be talking? You're not all throwing, watching film? So we've tried to build that camaraderie."
How a P5 QB isn't running routes with his receivers all summer and off-season I truly don't know.
That was seriously shocking to me.
What did she say? I tried to check and just see she said she is bitter about the lossWell looks like k5 mom is starting drama on twitter about TVD playing bad jeez![]()
We have to do better than this on offense (especially with the OL & RBs balling out). We have to do much better. For recruiting, we need to make changes fast.
My first suggestion is that Mario, Gattis & Ponce sit down today (all day) and watch film from last year (with TVD in at QB). Next they take 8-10 of the best passing plays & rep those in practice until they are automatic. Literally, don't do anything else in practice on offense other than pitch & catch until the timing & chemistry is there between TVD & the WRs. Keep the rest of the current scheme for the run game. There's no requirement to run only one offensive system at a time and if we're being honest, the passing game was way more polished & effective last year (so let's incorporate some of those concepts) while keeping the current scheme for the run game (which is dramatically better this year).
Gattis needs to adapt fast or he will not last long here. WR recruiting is going to suffer. He should absolutely swallow his pride and study what Lashlee did & incorporate that. He should also be calling Rhett to pick his brain. Smart people take advice from other smart people. Smart people also choose to evolve over time so they not only survive but thrive. Pride cometh before the fall.
Makes changes now to get this offense going & prevent recruiting from suffering.
I know everybody hates an I told you so person but my posts are still up. I knew he would struggle this year. I said so pretty earlyAre you serious? Stop being such a highfalutin ***. So you knew TVD was going to struggle? Go read any SEC board when **** doesn’t go their way. ****, we have a Gaturd tears thread specifically for that reason.it’s not exclusive to Miami. The media and others pumped him up as well.
I know your deep background, experience and knowledge.
Be clear with everyone here so we know where you stand: out of the two options, who is the problem? TVD or Gattis?
Others here like @SWFLHurricane, @JayCane20, LCE, @Cribby and others have been clear on their opinion. So where do you stand?
So van dyke was the back up and started to be the guy mid last season and had no rapport with anyone but maybe restrepo. He developed rapport during the season with Rambo and Harley. Then Gattis asked in early February ( 1 month after season ended) about working with receivers in the off-season. He had not so I assume he started then and there. That would have been about 7 months ago. That should be enough time to get the rapport going. Something not adding up.By the way, I know this was supposed to be a puff piece, but it raised serious red flags to me:
